Chapter 257: A Call From Madam Sophia

She brushed her son off and hung up. She then proceeded to call Ellis next.

Easton suddenly bringing up remarriage and the possibility of him showing up anytime to disgust her made it hard for Ellis to fall asleep. When her phone notified her of an incoming call from Sophia, she was watching an artsy film, hoping it would lull her to sleep. Madam Sophia is reaching out again… Is it about compensation this time?

After a brief thought, she swiped to answer. “Hello, Madam Sophia,”

“Ellis, did that brat Easton go and make things difficult for you?” Sophia’s words caught her off guard.

Why is she asking if Easton was troubling her? What happened?

Ellis scratched her head in confusion. “No.”

Hearing this, Sophia found it strange. If her son hadn’t caused trouble for Ellis, then his behavior today had been far too unusual, leaving others completely baffled. “He just called me and asked the weirdest question.”

Even Sophia found her son’s behavior strange. Ellis wanted to agree with her outright, but basic courtesy held her back, along with the urge to curse Easton. Instead, she simply said, “He has been acting a little weird lately.”

“Lately?” Sophia immediately picked up on the key detail. “What happened between you two?”

Ellis frowned in frustration at Sophia’s sharpness. She shouldn’t have answered this call! Getting divorced from Easton had taken quite a bit of effort, especially in dealing with both her adoptive mother and his mother. Now, if Sophia found out Easton wanted to remarry her, there was a good chance she’d support it, wasn’t there?

“He’s my ex-husband. There’s nothing going on between us,” she joked, hoping to steer Sophia’s focus away from her and Easton.

“But he asked me whether he has no charm at all,” Sophia said, changing tactics. “And he said you were the one who made him doubt himself.”

Since Easton wouldn’t tell her anything directly, she decided to get the answers from Ellis instead.

Ellis was speechless! What the hell! I just rejected him yet he complained to his mother? What trick is that?

She faked a cough. “I think it’s because we bumped into each other, and I said something that he might have taken seriously.”

Easton had said before that Ellis had a bad temper. When Sophia heard her words, she thought it was Ellis who scolded Easton, making him act this way. But then again, this wasn’t her son’s character. This didn’t make sense.

She was not easily fooled. She said, “Are you telling me the truth?”

Ellis remained silent, but her eyes twitched a little. But she wasn’t facing Sophia face-to-face, so she had nothing to be afraid of.

“Madam Sophia, why don’t you ask Easton?”

Ellis could only hope Easton had the sense not to drag her into this. If Sophia ended up trying to persuade her to remarry, she’d make sure to twist Easton’s head off! She refused to be a recycling bin for discarded trash!

After two calls filled with evasive responses from both her son and Ellis, Sophia’s curiosity was piqued. However, since neither of them would give her a straight answer and her work was indeed urgent, she didn’t press further and ended the call.

Finally done dealing with Sophia, Ellis began cursing Easton in her mind. How old is he? Running to his mother over something so small? What a childish lunatic!

To meet a representative Avertonian professor in the field of science, Casey took this matter very seriously and instructed… Casey refused, saying, “You’ll just be in the way.”

Ellis remained expressionless, silently reminding herself not to argue with a child. Perhaps Casey was in an exceptionally good mood, as he rarely showed mercy by adding, “After meeting the professor, I have to see someone special. It wouldn’t be appropriate for you to come along.”

“Someone special?” Ellis raised an eyebrow. “You have friends or family in Averton? You arranged a meeting?”

Since Casey described the person as special, Ellis deduced that there must be someone important to him.

“Not really.”

“Then?”

“We’ve met a few times; she’s a very special girl,” Casey said as he recalled the times he met her, with eyes sparkling like the stars.

“What? You’re gonna date?” Ellis’s first thought was Casey had a girl he liked. “You just came here a few days ago and you’ve found your Mrs. Right?”

Ellis waited for an answer, but Casey didn’t say anything. He took the gifts and walked away.

Looking at his back, Ellis hesitated whether she should tell Lois. However, it was like Casey knew what she was thinking. He turned around and said, “Don’t tell my mom!”

Ellis was speechless. She made a gesture of zipping her mouth.
