Chapter 304: Andrew’s Apologies

It was like Easton knew what Morty had done with Ellis, but Morty wasn’t afraid. So what if he knows?

For now, it seemed Easton still hadn’t figured out or noticed that Morty wanted to date Ellis. Otherwise, given how determined Easton was to remarry her, he wouldn’t simply warn him and leave it at that.

“Well, since you already know everything, I won’t bother explaining,” Morty picked up his coat and phone. “For now, I can’t avoid interacting with Ellis. Let’s talk about it again once the company’s partnership with Tate Group ends. L…”

He deliberately paused before continuing in a congratulatory tone, “I’ll go ahead and wish you and her a successful remarriage in advance.” As if!

The partnership between his company and Tate Group wasn’t something that would end anytime soon. The project would take at least three to five years to complete.

Easton wants to remarry Ellis? Leaving aside the fact that Morty wouldn’t allow it to happen, Easton’s arrogant attitude was another problem. Did he even bother asking Ellis if she was willing? From what Morty could see, she most definitely wouldn’t be.

Otherwise, why would Easton’s arrogance barely hide his frustration? There was a 90 percent chance that he had already demanded Ellis stay away from Morty, and when she refused to listen, he had no choice but to come to warn Morty instead.

Too much had happened in one night. Between working overtime, worrying, and finally getting pissed off, Ellis was drained. The moment she sat in the car, her eyelids grew so heavy they were about to shut.

In her current state, she was in no condition to drive. And Maya? She reeked of alcohol. Driving was out of the question for her too. For safety reasons, they called for a designated driver.

While waiting, her peripheral vision casually swept outside the window. That was when she noticed Easton and Morty deep in conversation.

Because of the distance, she couldn’t make out their expressions, but from the way they both stood so stiff, it was clear that this wasn’t a friendly chat.

Seeing Ellis looking out, Maya did the same out of curiosity. “Are you looking at your pursuer and your ex-husband?”

“Yep.”

“Does Easton know Morty is pursuing you?”

“I don’t think so?” Ellis wasn’t sure.

“If Easton finds out, and considering he wants to remarry you, wouldn’t Morty’s actions be considered stealing his woman?” Maya asked seriously.

“You’re completely wasted.” Ellis manually shut Maya’s mouth before she could say another word. “Get some sleep.”

“Okay.” Maya yawned and shut her eyes instantly.

For some reason, she was curious about what they had talked about. Has Easton told Morty to stay away from… we? The more she thought about it, the more likely it seemed. Is he trying to control everything? Is he crazy?!

The next day, Maya woke up with a horrible hangover because of how much she drank last night.

Unfortunately, with tons of work waiting for her, Ellis had no choice but to go about her day at the law firm as usual. However, just as she stepped into the office, Andrew appeared right behind her with a smile.

“Ms. Maya, I sincerely apologize for last night. I had a bit too much to drink and acted out of line,” Andrew said as he presented her with a carefully prepared apology gift. “I came here today specifically to say sorry.”

Maya was baffled by his overly eager apology. She had expected Cameron’s intervention last night to be the end of it, but apparently, there was more to the story. Andrew was arrogant. So why was he suddenly so nice to her today?

Maya remained silent and didn’t take the gift, studying him carefully. When she still didn’t respond, Andrew simply placed the gift on her desk and continued, “About that legal service contract… Would you be available to come to my office and sign it today? Or, if it’s more convenient, I can send someone over to you.”

Andrew apologizing and sending the contract over personally was… weird.

Maya pushed the gifts to the side and said, “Mr. Andrew, what are you doing?”

“A formal apology! I admire your work capabilities.” Although Andrew was saying that, he was actually cursing her out to himself.

Who would have thought that a mere junior lawyer from Round Scarlet Law Firm could wield such influence? By leveraging Ellis, she had managed to bring Easton into the picture, which resulted in Andrew getting a severe scolding from his old man at home the moment he returned last night. The family had made it clear that he had to solve this issue properly and cleanly.

“Why does Mr. Andrew feel the need to apologize?” Maya shoved the gift back into Andrew’s hands. “I can’t accept something for nothing. Please, take it back.”

“No, no, no!” Andrew hurriedly refused, quickly placing the gift back on her desk.

After spending some time humbling himself, he suddenly gave her a knowing smile, his eyes filled with unspoken meaning. “Ms. Maya, I’d appreciate it if you could let Mr. Hudson know that we’re square now. And if you ever need anything in the future… let’s say, more clients, I’d be more than happy to help however I can!”
