Chapter 308: Not in the Mood for Meddling

Easton looked down at Ellis and asked, โ€œWhere are we going?โ€

Ellis didnโ€™t have a specific destination in mind; she just wanted to separate Easton and Morty to prevent Easton from possibly hurting Morty so badly that heโ€™d end up in a hospital bed himself. Before pulling Easton away, she turned to Morty and said, โ€œCould you settle the bill for me? Iโ€™ll WhatsApp you the money later, andโ€ฆโ€

Even though Mortyโ€™s face wasnโ€™t bruised by her hand, she still felt humiliated. When Easton was hitting Morty, anyone could see he was hell-bent on doing serious damage. Morty hadnโ€™t seen a doctor yet, and any complications could be troublesome. Thinking it over, she advised, โ€œSince youโ€™re here, you might as well get a doctor to check out your face to see if itโ€™s badly hurt.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ Morty nodded, smiling slightly.

As soon as they stepped out of the hospital room, Ellis immediately let go of Eastonโ€™s sleeve. She wanted to walk alongside Ellis, but she deliberately quickened her pace to avoid walking with him. Considering her physical condition, Easton intentionally slowed down and followed behind her.

โ€œWhere to?โ€

Ellis still didnโ€™t answer Eastonโ€™s question and just continued walking ahead. Remembering the sight of Morty getting beaten, she sighed repeatedly in her mind. It wasnโ€™t that she felt pity for Mortyโ€™s ordeal; she just thought that anyone who got involved with Easton was cursed, like being tangled with something filthy that you couldnโ€™t shake off. Is there anyone who could teach Easton a lesson? She was utterly fed up with his arrogance.

As they walked, Ellis felt a bit dizzy and stumbled. The expected fall didnโ€™t happen; instead, a pair of annoyingly large hands grabbed her waist.

โ€œDid the doctor find out why you fainted?โ€ Easton, worried she might fall, steadied her and held her waist tightly. โ€œMaybe we should get you checked again, get some medicine, and go home to rest?โ€

Of course, by โ€˜home,โ€™ he meant their marital home; he wanted to take her back to live with him.

โ€œNo way!โ€ Ellis glared fiercely at her annoying ex-husband and deliberately pinched the back of his hand with her nails. โ€œMind your own business!โ€

Today had been utterly embarrassing, all thanks to Easton. Right now, the last person Ellis wanted to be near was Easton, who was cluelessly doting on her. The fact that she hadnโ€™t chopped him up and dumped him somewhere was a testament to her restraint. If she had been any less composed, she would have slapped him a second time right then and there.

When she had slapped him earlier, he thought she had chosen Morty over him, but when Morty tried to speak, she stopped him. In the end, she walked with him and left Morty behind the hospital room. Could this mean that she had actually chosen him? Although he had slapped him, he knew better than anyone about her fiery temper. Moreover, it wasnโ€™t the first time she had hit him; it was just that she had never hit his face before. After some thought, Easton mentally justified the slap he had received, finding a suitable reason for it. He ignored the pain spreading across his face, thinking about just holding her and walking out of the hospital, getting into the car, and going back to their home.

โ€œIf you donโ€™t get checked and you faint again later, itโ€™s not good for your health!โ€ Easton stopped walking. He wasnโ€™t moving, and since Ellis couldnโ€™t shake off his hand, her steps involuntarily halted as well. They were far enough from the hospital room she had been in; she didnโ€™t have to worry about Easton hitting Morty again, so she dropped the pretense of asking Easton where to go and showed her true feelings.

โ€œWhat does my health have to do with you!โ€ she snapped, and while he was distracted, her elbow aimed a hard blow at his abdomen. His thick clothing cushioned the impact, and it felt more like a tickle to Easton.

โ€œIt matters to me because you are myโ€ฆโ€ Loved one. He had never been good at sweet talk and hadnโ€™t trained for this kind of conversation, so he stopped short.

Seeing Easton faltering, Ellis quickly retorted, โ€œAm I your clueless ex-wife or just a so-called cousin in name? Enough already, stop bringing up that laughable nonsense, okay?โ€

Eastonโ€™s lips thinned. She was neither a clueless ex-wife nor any cousin in name. She was the woman he loved! Proud as ever, he had never bowed his head to anyone. Even though he thought this, he couldnโ€™t bring himself to say it out loud. As his ex-wife noticed the silence, she felt his grip loosen. Seizing the chance, she pulled his hand away forcefully. Once they were no longer in physical contact, she quickly walked away.

Seeing this, Easton followed. The best way to describe my ex-husband is as a lingering spirit. Why does he insist on haunting me like a ghost?

Unable to shake him off, Ellis stopped walking and turned to face Easton, exasperated. โ€œArenโ€™t you tired of this? How many times have I told you I wonโ€™t remarry you? You knew I was in the hospital and still you came to upset me on purpose, didnโ€™t you?โ€
