Chapter 310: A Tense Ride Home

The doctor said I fainted from overexertion. I just need to rest when I get back. "Stop nagging already," Ellis expressed her annoyance. "Another checkup would just waste my time."

Unable to get cash from Easton, and since he also refused to call her a cab, and underestimating how stubborn he could beโ€ฆ yes, stubbornโ€”that was the right word. Easton was truly being shameless now, a far cry from his usual lofty demeanor.

Eager to get back and rest, and with no energy left to argue with Easton, who seemed to be coaxing her into his car, she reluctantly agreed to let him drive her back to Mayaโ€™s place.

On the way, the driver, Ronnie, occasionally glanced in the rearview mirror. It was a rarity to see the former lady of the Hudson family sharing a car with Easton after many months. What was even more unusual was Easton seemingly trying to soothe Ellis. This scenario would have been unthinkable in the pastโ€”an impossibility! Yet, here it was, happening in reality.

Observing Ellisโ€™s angry demeanor and Easton sitting close to her, Ronnie initially felt bewildered. Then it clicked for him. People get divorced and remarried all the time! Clearly, Easton wanted to remarry Ellis!

With this thought, Ronnie was just about to focus ahead, determined not to spy on the couple any further, when Easton caught him watching. A chilling glance was shot his way. Eastonโ€™s eyes shifted quickly from gentle to intimidating in a second.

Understanding the hint, Ronnie wisely pressed the button to raise the privacy screen between the front and back, creating two separate spaces. Ellis, unlike her shameless ex-husband, didnโ€™t notice the driverโ€™s unusual behavior. She sat slightly turned away, almost facing away from Easton, her head turned towards the window. She spared no glance for Easton, eager only to reach the destination and not share any more space with him. He just has to annoy someone whoโ€™s already feeling sick, she thought bitterly about Easton.

After silently cursing him throughout the drive, she quickly got out of the car the moment they arrived, not wanting to stay a second longer than necessary. Watching Ellisโ€™s quick departure, Easton didnโ€™t feel bad; in fact, he felt somewhat relieved, perhaps because he didnโ€™t have to worry about her developing any inappropriate feelings for Morty. He watched her enter the apartment complex until she disappeared from view, his expression gradually darkening.

Chapter 210: A Demon-Fide Home

Before she felt work. Maya received a call from Tate Cup stall, informing her that Ellis had fainted and was taken to the hospital by emergency services.

When she arrived at the hospital and saw Morty watching over Ellis, and with clients pressuring her at work, she felt reassured by Mortyโ€™s presence and went back to work. After finishing up, she returned to the hospital only to find that Ellis was no longer in her room.

Maya called Ellis several times, but no one answered. Confused, she received a call from Morty, saying, โ€œMs. Maya, you donโ€™t need to come to the hospital. Easton has taken Ellis away.โ€

Easton took Ellis away? Maya didnโ€™t trust Easton, who had shown signs of being quite obsessive. โ€œMr. Morty, you like Ellis, donโ€™t you? You just watched Easton take her away?โ€

Directly addressing Mortyโ€™s feelings for Ellis, Morty sidestepped the question, saying, โ€œIt was Easton who came for Ellis, and she asked him to take her. If Iโ€™m not mistaken, heโ€™s probably taking her to your place to rest.โ€

Assured of Ellisโ€™s whereabouts, Maya quickly left the hospital and headed home. True enough, Ellis was back at the apartment. She looked Ellis over. โ€œAre you still feeling dizzy? Did your creepy ex do anything to you?โ€

Knowing that Maya was aware of the situation, Ellis guessed Morty must have told her. โ€œEaston didnโ€™t do anything to me, but heโ€ฆโ€ She started to share more but stopped, embarrassed by the thought.

โ€œThatโ€™s good,โ€ Maya said, focusing only on whether her friend had been harmed. Easton was unpredictable, and her friend was defenseless against him.

Ellis sighed softly. โ€œWhy the long face?โ€ โ€œItโ€™s embarrassing.โ€ Confused, Maya blinked in puzzlement.

โ€œCan I use your phone?โ€ Ellis asked, extending her hand. โ€œDo you have Mortyโ€™s number saved?โ€ She worried about Mortyโ€™s condition, whether he had seen a doctor for his injuries. Despite being Eastonโ€™s victim, it seemed heartless not to check on Morty, especially since he had helped her multiple times.

โ€œSure,โ€ Maya said without hesitation, handing over her phone.
