At the airport, upon spotting Easton, Taylor hurried over to report succinctly and accurately. From his assistant’s words, Easton caught wind of the Brooks family’s audacity. “Am I supposed to be dead? Do they think I’m oblivious to everything?”

As soon as she heard her son’s voice, Sophia was ready to scold him. “What’s going on with you, Easton? When did you get remarried without telling me?” She had stepped out today only to be congratulated on having a new daughter-in-law, which filled her head with thoughts that her son had secretly married someone else. Wasn’t my son supposed to win back Ellis and have her continue as my daughter-in-law?

“Mom, which rumor have you fallen for?” Easton’s brow knitted again. “I’m just trying to confirm the truth with you. I didn’t believe it.”

“I haven’t remarried; I just saw Ellis yesterday.”

“Oh, is that so.” Sophia immediately felt relieved. After a pause, she continued, “There’s no smoke without fire. What have you been up to lately, young man, that everyone is saying you’ve remarried?”

“It’s a rumor started by the Brooks family,” Easton confirmed that the gossip his mother heard stemmed from the Brooks family. Setting aside the Brooks family’s desperate measures, no one else would bother to spread such nonsense.

“Alright, as long as the rumor isn’t true, that’s good.” Assured it was false, Sophia quickly ended the call.

Easton’s mood worsened, his face much more somber than before. His only thought was to eradicate the Brooks family from high society as swiftly as possible.

Though Taylor hadn’t been Easton’s assistant for long, sitting in that position proved she was one of Easton’s trusted people. Otherwise, why would he have chosen her? Her words were undoubtedly true. The deceived creditors, once they verified the facts with Taylor, all turned against the Brooks family, demanding their money back.

The Brooks family had not anticipated the creditors would uncover the truth so quickly. Peter, troubled, scolded his daughter, “Ellis and Easton have been divorced for months, and you’ve missed your chance to make something of yourself.” Victoria wanted to seize any opportunity too, but Easton didn’t give her any. When she first returned to the country, Easton was outwardly nice to her, providing the resources she needed for her startup, but that was it. He didn’t allow her to take any further steps.

Meanwhile, Ellis, who couldn’t be paraded around, had left Easton voluntarily, yet Easton, out of spite for her, had ruthlessly attacked her company and her family.
