Chapter 328: Supermarket Showdown

Reiseland, following his boss closely, had noticed his superior’s recent attention to Ellis. Not fully understanding Mr. Maxwell’s preferences yet, and considering what he knew about men in general, Cleveland couldn’t help but scheme a little. Could Mr. Maxwell be interested in that girl? Should I create an opportunity for them to meet?

Before Cleveland could flesh out his little schemes, he saw Ellis leave the deck. It looked like Ellis was probably heading to her room to pack her bags and prepare to disembark. Just as Cleveland had guessed, Ellis was indeed getting ready to leave the ship. Constantly being on the move was actually quite exhausting, and her travel plans had been disrupted. With nothing better to do, she decided to fly back to Stonebridge early for a few days of rest before continuing her travels.

Ellis’s sudden return surprised Maya. “It hasn’t even been a month; why are you back already?”

“Just lying around, taking a break.”

Ellis squatted down, rummaging through her suitcase, and pulled out some items she had picked out for Maya on the cruise. Taking the items, Maya inspected them from every angle, her face full of genuine happiness. “Thanks, Ellis!”

“No need to thank me; these didn’t cost anything.”

“They might not have cost anything, but you went through the trouble of bringing them back for me.”

“As long as you like them.” Ellis stood up and sat on the sofa.

“Hey, are you really just going to lie around for a few days?” Maya asked incredulously.

“Not just a few days, I’ve had a realization.”

“What realization?”

“It seems like no matter how far I go, Easton can still find me.” Ellis wasn’t sure if Maya could grasp the creepiness of it, but even if she was floating in the middle of the ocean, Easton could still find her, and he even left on a cruise the next day. Including the misfortunes that seemed to follow her, none had disappeared just because she went away.

“So you’re just giving up?” Maya guessed pessimistically, her eyes nearly popping out. “Just going to quietly remarry Easton?”

“Have you lost your mind too?” Ellis clutched a pillow tightly, pondering for a moment. “I could never remarry Easton. I’m not a trash can meant for recycling garbage, and besides, I find him disgusting.”

A person can clean their mind and spirit, perhaps, but a filthy body is truly dirty.

Maya sat beside Ellis, winking mysteriously. “Have you checked the news these past few days?”

“I was having fun, not paying attention to that stuff,” Ellis paused. “What’s up?”

“The Brooks family is about to go under!” Maya announced seriously. “And the Hudson Group released a statement saying Easton and the Brooks family’s daughter, Victoria, have no relationship whatsoever. Regarding the Brooks family using his name to gather funds, he had no prior knowledge.”

After the divorce, from Easton constantly pestering her and shamelessly sharing a bed with her, Ellis could tell that Victoria didn’t hold much weight in Easton’s life. If he truly loved Victoria, he wouldn’t act this way. With the Brooks family on the brink of bankruptcy and Easton disassociating himself from Victoria, was he just unwilling to spend money to help Victoria save her family? In her view, Easton truly loved no one but himself. But back to the matter at hand, the Brooks family should go bankrupt soon! That way, Victoria would lose the power to target her, and her life in Stonebridge would be more peaceful.

Having said her piece, Ellis gave no reaction, as bland as plain water. Maya elbowed her in the waist, dissatisfied. “A reaction, please? Am I talking to myself here?”

“No, I’m listening.” Ellis smiled warmly, making an enthusiastic response.

“Are you happy?”

“Happy!”

What goes around comes around; Victoria’s current plight was her own doing. Now, it was Easton’s turn! But the Hudson family couldn’t fall like the Brooks family. Emma, a member of the Hudson family, heavily depended on the family foundation’s regular payments for her livelihood. If the Hudson family went down, Emma would be the first to suffer. Let Easton be the only one out of luck!

Traveling long distances was extremely exhausting, and after chatting briefly with Maya, Ellis went to sleep. Sleeping a lot can lead to a sore back and stiff limbs, and Ellis felt this stiffness when she woke up. After grabbing a quick bite, she went out for a walk and decided to stop by the supermarket. Maya had been working overtime like crazy recently, depleting some household supplies without replenishing them, and the fridge was completely empty, so she needed to stock up.

Unexpectedly, on her way to the supermarket, she ran into something dirty. The dirty thing was Victoria! Victoria, no longer haughty, appeared rather disheveled. Facing her directly, Victoria didn’t attack her like a shrew as before but stood coldly to the side, gritting her teeth. “Ellis, you must be quite pleased with yourself, huh?”
