Chapter 338: The Last Straw

Suddenly, recalling his conversation with Sophia about wanting to remarry Ellis, Easton clenched his fists slightly.

โ€œCan I assume that means you love me, want to marry me again, and even have kids with me?โ€

His ex-husbandโ€™s persistence grew more absurdโ€”not absurd in a real sense, but because asking these questions more than half a year after their divorce seemed utterly pointless. Ellis was speechless.

She let him ramble on; it was his right to speak, and she couldnโ€™t very well shut him up with tape just because he was annoying her.

Ignoring her, the silence stretched on, filled only by the faint sounds of her packing. Easton found her silence unbearable.

โ€œEllis, answer me!โ€

Annoyed beyond patience, Ellis threw a towel at his face, her anger slightly showing.

โ€œWhether I loved you or not, what does it matter? You keep harping on the past. Arenโ€™t you tired of it? Because I am! All this talkโ€”do you think itโ€™ll make me remarry you? Dream on!โ€

Given his behavior, she felt sheโ€™d go insane sooner or later with him around. Right now, Easton wasnโ€™t looking for a reconciliation. He removed the towel from his shoulder, placed it in her suitcase, and said, โ€œJust tell me you once loved me, and Iโ€™ll leave immediately.โ€

Ellis had never met anyone as infuriating as Easton. โ€œLove or leave, I donโ€™t care!โ€

She pushed him hard, trying to move him aside so he wouldnโ€™t block her path. Despite her efforts, he was too strong, and she couldnโ€™t budge him.

Ignoring him, she called toward the door, โ€œMaya, come in.โ€

Why was she hiding outside instead of helping me pack?

Facing Easton alone was frustrating and bad for her health. Hearing Ellis call, Maya decisively entered, glancing between Ellis and Easton with her eyes darting back and forth.

Ellis was fed up with Easton, and so was she. Easton and Victoria, this despicable pair, must have some bad karma with Ellis. Most of the hurt Ellis suffered over the past year came from these two.

Ellis pointed out the items to pack to Maya, signaling that they should hurry and leave the hospital; she couldnโ€™t stand Eastonโ€™s madness any longer.

Facing him any more might truly drive her mad!

Maya, being Ellisโ€™s most trusted friend and never having done her wrong, made Easton feel somewhat reassured about her care. But watching Ellis prepare to leave with Maya, he felt uneasy.

The last time Ellis was discharged, she stayed at Mayaโ€™s place. He guessed it would be the same this time. He wished he could take her home and care for her himself.

Maya focused on packing quickly, while Ellis checked the items she had packed to make sure nothing was left behind. Both were too busy to notice Eastonโ€™s turmoil.

Staring at Ellisโ€™s bright and delicate face, Easton impulsively asked, โ€œWhen you and Victoria werenโ€™t officially split, did you ever like me?โ€

The question came out of nowhere. On the surface, Ellis showed no reaction, but inside, she felt incredibly awkward. She had harbored feelings for Easton since her youth, which had grown into a secret crush and then into openly expressing her love. She thought these bittersweet feelings were hers alone to know, her own secret. But Victoria had exposed her secret, accusing her of coveting her fiancรฉ, and made it clear it was no secret at all.

Victoria could not discern when she fell for Easton, and Easton could not possibly know either. Considering he had always scorned her love and still persisted in asking if she had ever loved him, it seemed unlikely he knew anything at all.

She grabbed a small mirror from the nightstand and handed it to Easton, saying seriously, โ€œThereโ€™s a limit to narcissism. Look in the mirror, wake up, and try to have some self-awareness.โ€

Her words and gaze were dripping with sarcasm, which Easton couldnโ€™t ignore. His foolish question had driven her to mock him. He set the mirror down, feeling an irrepressible sense of loss.

As Ellis walked out of the room without looking back, followed by Maya, Easton did not follow.

Maya, still worried, glanced back a few times to make sure he wasnโ€™t coming after them and whispered, โ€œYour ex must have had his brain kicked by a mule, coming to the hospital just to ask you that. As an outsider, even I find it laughable.โ€

โ€œWho knows what goes through his mind!โ€ Ellis was thoroughly disgusted with her exโ€™s idiocy. โ€œHeโ€™s like someone having a mental breakdown!โ€

She thought about suggesting to Madam Sophia, โ€œYour son seems to have a neurological issue; maybe you could take him for a brain scan to see if somethingโ€™s wrong.โ€

Since he had disregarded her during their affair and throughout their marriage, sheโ€™d prefer he not pester her with ridiculous, embarrassing questions after their divorce.
