Chapter 339: Delivery Debacles

The most ridiculous part was that he actually had the nerve to ask if she had liked him while he was engaged to someone else. How am I supposed to respond? Do I admit it? And admit that I am jealous of Victoria? He has no shame, but I still care about mine!

Not following Ellisโ€™s pace wasnโ€™t because Easton didnโ€™t want to be with her. His main purpose today was to visit and make sure she was healthy and unharmed. He also knew very well that following her would only increase her dislike for him. Besides, he had to stop by the police station later to deal with Victoria.

But recalling Ellisโ€™s indifferent and dismissive attitude was like a thorn in his heartโ€”not enough to break it, but enough to make him uncomfortable. She didnโ€™t love him or his money anymore! Given her current attitude, he couldnโ€™t even pursue her normally.

As the headache started to set in, Easton rubbed his temples and then left the hospital. As he stepped out, Ellis and Maya were standing at the trunk of a car, probably arranging their belongings. He couldnโ€™t help but walk over.

โ€œMaya, please take care of Ellis. If you need anything or any money, just let me know.โ€

Easton was talking to himself, not directly to Ellis. Maya took a moment to process his words and looked silently at Ellis. Easton had never really respected her, and his tone suggested he didnโ€™t really respect her best friend either, almost as if he thought of Maya as some kind of caretaker. Ellis felt a sudden urge to lash out at him.

โ€œDo you even know what respect is? Or do you think people of lower status than you donโ€™t deserve any? Get this straightโ€”Maya is my best friend, not someone for you to boss around!โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t mean to boss her around; I just thoughtโ€ฆโ€ Eastonโ€™s intentions were simple. He saw how close Ellis and Maya were and how much Maya did for her. Since Ellis wouldnโ€™t accept his help, he thought he might ask Maya.

โ€œEnough!โ€ Ellis snapped, โ€œI donโ€™t want to hear your excuses.โ€

She slammed the trunk shut and hurried into the car, with Maya following quickly behind. Inside the car, with the soundproofing shielding them from Easton, Maya vented, โ€œYour ex isnโ€™t just a creep; heโ€™s clingy like a bad rash that wonโ€™t go away.โ€

Ellis massaged her forehead, resigned. โ€œHeโ€™s sick! Just ignore whatever he just said.โ€

โ€œOf course!โ€ Maya winked playfully, โ€œMy brainโ€™s still working.โ€

Watching Ellis and Maya drive away, Easton stood by the roadside, his mood and heart sinking bit by bit.

Getting Ellis back and having her agree to remarry seemed more and more like a distant dream without any hope. But he wouldnโ€™t give up!

With his busy schedule and all the chaos, Maya would sometimes redirect her deliveries to a local collection point until she had time to pick them up herself. In just a few days, the volume of her deliveries piled up dramatically, even requiring personal confirmation for some, which tipped Maya off that something was amiss.

She didnโ€™t need to think twice and called Ellis immediately.

โ€œEllis, your admirer is sending you stuff again!โ€

Hadnโ€™t Morty gotten the memo? Ellis wasnโ€™t staying with her anymore; she had moved back to her own place.

โ€œWhat do you mean by again?โ€ Ellis was quick to suspect Morty, โ€œIโ€™ve hardly ever accepted his gifts.โ€

Aside from the occasional dog-walking payment, she remembered only once accepting a package from Morty during the New Yearโ€™sโ€”forced to bring it inside because he had left it at her door.

โ€œSo, what do you want me to do? Should I tell Morty to come and get it or should someone take it to him?โ€ Maya put the phone on speaker and started browsing through her recent calls, increasingly irritated on behalf of Ellis.

Dealing with both Morty and Easton was exhausting.

โ€œDo whatever you think best,โ€ Ellis left it up to Maya to deal with the situation.

โ€œOkay.โ€

After hanging up, Maya called Morty.

โ€œMr. Morty, youโ€™re out of the loop; Ellis doesnโ€™t stay here anymore.โ€ She started off lightly but quickly got to the point, โ€œAbout the stuff you sent her, do you want to pick it up?โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t send anything.โ€ Morty wasnโ€™t lying: he hadnโ€™t sent anything.

Maya paused, slightly taken aback. If Morty hadnโ€™t sent it, then who had?

โ€œSorry to bother you!โ€ she apologized quickly, then called Ellis again.

โ€œEllis, Morty denies sending the gifts! Could it be your ex who sent them?โ€ she guessed, โ€œEmma might also be a possibility,โ€

After all, Emma had a history of sending Ellis loads of stuff.
