Chapter 354: Upstairs Neighbor from Hell

โ€œRunning into you in the elevator was a coincidence. I didnโ€™t come here to see you,โ€ Easton said.

Just last night, heโ€™d been hoping Ellis would hear the recording and finally react as he wanted. But after thinking it over, he came to the same conclusion as his mother: Victoriaโ€™s so-called testimony wouldnโ€™t change anything. Ellis would probably assume he forced Victoria to lie for him. Otherwise, she wouldโ€™ve responded by nowโ€”instead of looking at him like this and snapping, โ€œAre you done yet?โ€

He gave up on the idea of convincing her anytime soon that he hadnโ€™t cheated. Just like his mom said, what he needed to do now was rebuild trust between them.

Ellis stared at her ex, who had absolutely no shame as he spoke those ridiculous words. She barely stopped herself from rolling her eyes.

โ€œYou didnโ€™t come to see me, then why the hell are you here?โ€

What, did he go to bed early, start sleepwalking, and just accidentally end up in her building?

She gave him a cold laugh, turned around, and stepped back into the elevator, silently daring him to try and follow. In the back of her mind, she expected him to do just that. Thatโ€™s what he always did. She braced herself for it, her expression full of irritation.

But to her surprise, he didnโ€™t follow. In fact, just as the elevator doors began to close, Easton turned and walked awayโ€”as if to prove he really hadnโ€™t come to see her.

He was gone, but Ellis didnโ€™t let her guard down. If he dared ring her doorbell again, sheโ€™d give him an earful. But nothing happened. She slept through the night, and by the next day, there was still no sign of him.

Weird. This wasnโ€™t like her ex at all. Shrugging off the odd feeling, Ellis focused back on job hunting. The company that interviewed her last week hadnโ€™t followed up, which clearly meant she didnโ€™t make the cut. With no income and bills piling up, she couldnโ€™t afford to wait around. She needed to send more applicationsโ€”and fast.

Her rรฉsumรฉ was decent. After sending out about ten applications, three companies replied almost immediately and scheduled interviews. And interviews meant leaving the house. Ellis dressed professionally and pulled herself together, only to step into the elevator and see Easton insideโ€”again.

Just like last time, he wasnโ€™t coming up from the lobby. He was coming down from the upper floors. Right away, a bad feeling hit her.

โ€œYou bastard. You didnโ€™t actually buy a place in this buildingโ€”above meโ€”did you?โ€

โ€œCongratulations,โ€ Easton said, meeting her eyes with the faintest smile. โ€œYou guessed right.โ€

The moment her suspicion was confirmed, Ellis wanted to punch something. Eastonโ€™s been crazyโ€”thatโ€™s nothing new. But now? Heโ€™s taken it to a whole new level, actually moving into the floor right above her. Heโ€™s clearly got too much time on his hands, acting like he canโ€™t see how uncomfortable heโ€™s making her.

Chapter 354: Upstairs Neighbor from Hell

โ€œYou coming in?โ€

Easton pressed the door-open button, holding the elevator for her like he was doing her a favor. Ellis didnโ€™t feel thankfulโ€”she felt like screaming.

โ€œLike hell I am.โ€ She turned her head with a scowl.

โ€œIโ€™m going down first, then.โ€ He released the button.

The doors slid shut. Her annoyed face faded from his view, and the tiny smirk on his lips disappeared tooโ€”replaced by quiet determination. Since he couldnโ€™t get her to remarry him anytime soon, living in the same building as Ellis was the next best thing. Like the saying goesโ€”being close gives you the advantage.

Easton disappeared, but Ellis was still fuming. She couldnโ€™t move out. Her lease wasnโ€™t up yet, and leaving early would break the contract. That meant losing both her rent and depositโ€”money sheโ€™d worked hard to earn. And now her ex was her neighbor. Sheโ€™d have to see him regularly, like a cloud of bad luck floating past.

Her head throbbed. She knew exactly whyโ€”Easton was the reason. For now, she shook it off and focused on her interview, pretending none of it had happened.

On Saturday, Maya showed up with her things and officially moved into Serenity Estate. It wasnโ€™t her first time staying hereโ€”she knew her way around. Seeing Ellis looking gloomy, she raised a brow. โ€œWhatโ€™s with the look? Did I wake you up too early? You look like you didnโ€™t sleep and now youโ€™re dying.โ€

Ellis shook her head. โ€œItโ€™s not about you or sleep.โ€

โ€œThen whatโ€™s got you looking like that?โ€

โ€œJust thinking about Easton living upstairs ruins my mood.โ€

Mayaโ€™s jaw dropped. โ€œYour ex is living above you now?โ€

Ellis saw the shock on her face and nodded, looking for backup. โ€œYou think heโ€™s nuts too, right?โ€

โ€œAbsolutely!โ€ Maya didnโ€™t hold back. โ€œHow is it even possible for someone to be this shameless?โ€

โ€œI swear, I just wanna blow up the whole floor and chase him out.โ€

โ€œWell, your ex is loaded.โ€ Maya sighed. โ€œBuying a new place is like buying gum for him.โ€ She paused, then added half-joking, half-serious, โ€œHeyโ€ฆ you donโ€™t think heโ€™s gonna buy your place next and become your landlord, right?โ€
