Chapter 354: Upstairs Neighbor from Hell
โRunning into you in the elevator was a coincidence. I didnโt come here to see you,โ Easton said.
Just last night, heโd been hoping Ellis would hear the recording and finally react as he wanted. But after thinking it over, he came to the same conclusion as his mother: Victoriaโs so-called testimony wouldnโt change anything. Ellis would probably assume he forced Victoria to lie for him. Otherwise, she wouldโve responded by nowโinstead of looking at him like this and snapping, โAre you done yet?โ
He gave up on the idea of convincing her anytime soon that he hadnโt cheated. Just like his mom said, what he needed to do now was rebuild trust between them.
Ellis stared at her ex, who had absolutely no shame as he spoke those ridiculous words. She barely stopped herself from rolling her eyes.
โYou didnโt come to see me, then why the hell are you here?โ
What, did he go to bed early, start sleepwalking, and just accidentally end up in her building?
She gave him a cold laugh, turned around, and stepped back into the elevator, silently daring him to try and follow. In the back of her mind, she expected him to do just that. Thatโs what he always did. She braced herself for it, her expression full of irritation.
But to her surprise, he didnโt follow. In fact, just as the elevator doors began to close, Easton turned and walked awayโas if to prove he really hadnโt come to see her.
He was gone, but Ellis didnโt let her guard down. If he dared ring her doorbell again, sheโd give him an earful. But nothing happened. She slept through the night, and by the next day, there was still no sign of him.
Weird. This wasnโt like her ex at all. Shrugging off the odd feeling, Ellis focused back on job hunting. The company that interviewed her last week hadnโt followed up, which clearly meant she didnโt make the cut. With no income and bills piling up, she couldnโt afford to wait around. She needed to send more applicationsโand fast.
Her rรฉsumรฉ was decent. After sending out about ten applications, three companies replied almost immediately and scheduled interviews. And interviews meant leaving the house. Ellis dressed professionally and pulled herself together, only to step into the elevator and see Easton insideโagain.
Just like last time, he wasnโt coming up from the lobby. He was coming down from the upper floors. Right away, a bad feeling hit her.
โYou bastard. You didnโt actually buy a place in this buildingโabove meโdid you?โ
โCongratulations,โ Easton said, meeting her eyes with the faintest smile. โYou guessed right.โ
The moment her suspicion was confirmed, Ellis wanted to punch something. Eastonโs been crazyโthatโs nothing new. But now? Heโs taken it to a whole new level, actually moving into the floor right above her. Heโs clearly got too much time on his hands, acting like he canโt see how uncomfortable heโs making her.
Chapter 354: Upstairs Neighbor from Hell
โYou coming in?โ
Easton pressed the door-open button, holding the elevator for her like he was doing her a favor. Ellis didnโt feel thankfulโshe felt like screaming.
โLike hell I am.โ She turned her head with a scowl.
โIโm going down first, then.โ He released the button.
The doors slid shut. Her annoyed face faded from his view, and the tiny smirk on his lips disappeared tooโreplaced by quiet determination. Since he couldnโt get her to remarry him anytime soon, living in the same building as Ellis was the next best thing. Like the saying goesโbeing close gives you the advantage.
Easton disappeared, but Ellis was still fuming. She couldnโt move out. Her lease wasnโt up yet, and leaving early would break the contract. That meant losing both her rent and depositโmoney sheโd worked hard to earn. And now her ex was her neighbor. Sheโd have to see him regularly, like a cloud of bad luck floating past.
Her head throbbed. She knew exactly whyโEaston was the reason. For now, she shook it off and focused on her interview, pretending none of it had happened.
On Saturday, Maya showed up with her things and officially moved into Serenity Estate. It wasnโt her first time staying hereโshe knew her way around. Seeing Ellis looking gloomy, she raised a brow. โWhatโs with the look? Did I wake you up too early? You look like you didnโt sleep and now youโre dying.โ
Ellis shook her head. โItโs not about you or sleep.โ
โThen whatโs got you looking like that?โ
โJust thinking about Easton living upstairs ruins my mood.โ
Mayaโs jaw dropped. โYour ex is living above you now?โ
Ellis saw the shock on her face and nodded, looking for backup. โYou think heโs nuts too, right?โ
โAbsolutely!โ Maya didnโt hold back. โHow is it even possible for someone to be this shameless?โ
โI swear, I just wanna blow up the whole floor and chase him out.โ
โWell, your ex is loaded.โ Maya sighed. โBuying a new place is like buying gum for him.โ She paused, then added half-joking, half-serious, โHeyโฆ you donโt think heโs gonna buy your place next and become your landlord, right?โ
