Iโm the Obsession of My Cold-Hearted Ex
Chapter 91: A Cry for Help
After inflicting such harsh treatment, it was excruciatingly painful. As the pain pierced her, large teardrops fell like pearls slipping off a string. In an instant, she was crying her eyes out, looking like a pear tree weeping under rain.
It was the first time Sophia saw Ellis crying so miserably. Her bright, clear eyes were shrouded in glistening tears, as if veiled by a thick mist, silently conveying her grievances. Sophiaโs heart clenched at the sight, and she immediately called her son.
โYou little rascal! Do you think you rule the world, that no one can handle you? Ellis is your wife, not your enemy; sheโโ
Sophiaโs loud scolding was somewhat harsh to the ear, prompting Easton to instinctively pull the phone away from his ear. Calculating a less irritating distance, he frowned slightly and interrupted, โMom, did Ellis talk to you?โ
โEven if Ellis hadnโt reached out, Iโd still be clueless about how cold-blooded my own son could be! Youโโ
โMom, I donโt want to talk too much; I just want to tell you one thing. Everything I do has a purpose.โ
โIf youโre so cold-hearted, maybe you should just divorce her.โ Sophia couldnโt understand her sonโs actions; such heartache was hard to heal. Was her son not afraid that one day heโd hurt Ellis so badly she wouldnโt want to stay with him?
The mention of divorce brought deep unrest to Easton, along with a hint of irritation. โWhy would I divorce her?โ Perhaps his tie was too tight, making his breathing slightly uncomfortable; he tugged at his tie. โMom, everything Iโm doing now is to keep Ellis calm and stop her from constantly threatening divorce.โ
Hearing this, Sophiaโs rising anger cooled significantly.
Carly, Ellis, and their son all agreed on one thingโEllis was the one who brought up the divorce. Although Easton ignored Ellisโs direct emotional needs, didnโt appease her, and allowed her to continue thinking about divorce, it was a good thing that he wasnโt just going along with Ellis and was actually trying to put an end to the divorce drama.
Sophia had started the call sitting on the same sofa as Ellis, but as they spoke, she unconsciously moved away, then walked with her phone to another spot. Ellis looked on; she was puzzled.
Making sure Ellis couldnโt hear, Sophia stood casually in front of a famous painting, watching it while asking, โArenโt you afraid of being too harsh? Ellis can only take so much.โ
Ellis reaching out to his mother was expected by him.
Easton had preemptively mentioned, โIf I donโt give her a strong dose now, with you as her backbone, and Carly as her enforcer, who knows when sheโll calm down? Iโm handling her and my aunt together; just stay out of it; sheโll settle down soon.โ
โAlright then,โ Sophia immediately decided to stay out of it. โBut first, be honest with me, are you stillโโ
Chapter 91: A Cry for Help
Whether Easton had cheated with Victoria was still unclear to her.
โWhy bring up Victoria out of the blue?โ Eastonโs lips curled slightly.
โIโm asking if youโve cheated with Victoria,โ Sophia repeated bluntly.
โMom, weโre talking about Ellis and me divorcing, donโt bring up Victoria.โ
His sonโs evasion made Sophia suspect something was wrong, but lacking concrete evidence for the moment, she said, โJust donโt let me find out youโre cheating, or mistreating Ellis, or I wonโt let you off the hook.โ
Sophiaโs concern for Ellis was almost as intense as it would be for her own daughter, occasionally giving him the illusion that his motherโs biological child was Ellis, and he was the adopted one. That was why he disliked Ellis a bit; her cunning ways had his mother wrapped around her finger.
His expression slightly mocking, Easton said, โMom, you might as well ask Ellis to take our surname and be your biological daughter, and just cast me aside.โ
Ignoring her sonโs sarcasm, Sophia asked again, โAll these things youโre doing, are they to make Ellis drop the idea of divorcing you?โ
Of course, that wasnโt his intention; he was simply teaching her a lesson to keep her from getting too big for her boots and disrespecting him. To make her fully aware that he wasnโt a toy to be taken or discarded at her whim, and getting rid of him would come at a priceโone that she couldnโt bear and would have to beg him for mercy a thousand times over before heโd consider letting her off the hook.
To keep his mother from seeing through his plans, Easton kept his thoughts to himself and placated her with a lie, โYes.โ
โWhat about your prenuptial agreement?โ Sophia hadnโt forgotten about the prenup.
โMom, did Ellis show you the agreement?โ
โIโve seen it.โ
โSince youโve seen it, donโt you think whether itโs void or not doesnโt matter? As long as Ellis and I donโt divorce, the prenuptial agreement is just a piece of paper.โ Easton had never thought about living his life with Ellis, just as he hadnโt thought about initiating a divorce with her. The prenup, drawn up by a lawyer and legally notarized, was just a formality before they got married.
