Iโ€™m the Obsession of My Cold-Hearted Ex

Chapter 91: A Cry for Help

After inflicting such harsh treatment, it was excruciatingly painful. As the pain pierced her, large teardrops fell like pearls slipping off a string. In an instant, she was crying her eyes out, looking like a pear tree weeping under rain.

It was the first time Sophia saw Ellis crying so miserably. Her bright, clear eyes were shrouded in glistening tears, as if veiled by a thick mist, silently conveying her grievances. Sophiaโ€™s heart clenched at the sight, and she immediately called her son.

โ€œYou little rascal! Do you think you rule the world, that no one can handle you? Ellis is your wife, not your enemy; sheโ€”โ€

Sophiaโ€™s loud scolding was somewhat harsh to the ear, prompting Easton to instinctively pull the phone away from his ear. Calculating a less irritating distance, he frowned slightly and interrupted, โ€œMom, did Ellis talk to you?โ€

โ€œEven if Ellis hadnโ€™t reached out, Iโ€™d still be clueless about how cold-blooded my own son could be! Youโ€”โ€

โ€œMom, I donโ€™t want to talk too much; I just want to tell you one thing. Everything I do has a purpose.โ€

โ€œIf youโ€™re so cold-hearted, maybe you should just divorce her.โ€ Sophia couldnโ€™t understand her sonโ€™s actions; such heartache was hard to heal. Was her son not afraid that one day heโ€™d hurt Ellis so badly she wouldnโ€™t want to stay with him?

The mention of divorce brought deep unrest to Easton, along with a hint of irritation. โ€œWhy would I divorce her?โ€ Perhaps his tie was too tight, making his breathing slightly uncomfortable; he tugged at his tie. โ€œMom, everything Iโ€™m doing now is to keep Ellis calm and stop her from constantly threatening divorce.โ€

Hearing this, Sophiaโ€™s rising anger cooled significantly.

Carly, Ellis, and their son all agreed on one thingโ€”Ellis was the one who brought up the divorce. Although Easton ignored Ellisโ€™s direct emotional needs, didnโ€™t appease her, and allowed her to continue thinking about divorce, it was a good thing that he wasnโ€™t just going along with Ellis and was actually trying to put an end to the divorce drama.

Sophia had started the call sitting on the same sofa as Ellis, but as they spoke, she unconsciously moved away, then walked with her phone to another spot. Ellis looked on; she was puzzled.

Making sure Ellis couldnโ€™t hear, Sophia stood casually in front of a famous painting, watching it while asking, โ€œArenโ€™t you afraid of being too harsh? Ellis can only take so much.โ€

Ellis reaching out to his mother was expected by him.

Easton had preemptively mentioned, โ€œIf I donโ€™t give her a strong dose now, with you as her backbone, and Carly as her enforcer, who knows when sheโ€™ll calm down? Iโ€™m handling her and my aunt together; just stay out of it; sheโ€™ll settle down soon.โ€

โ€œAlright then,โ€ Sophia immediately decided to stay out of it. โ€œBut first, be honest with me, are you stillโ€”โ€

Whether Easton had cheated with Victoria was still unclear to her.

โ€œWhy bring up Victoria out of the blue?โ€ Eastonโ€™s lips curled slightly.

โ€œIโ€™m asking if youโ€™ve cheated with Victoria,โ€ Sophia repeated bluntly.

โ€œMom, weโ€™re talking about Ellis and me divorcing, donโ€™t bring up Victoria.โ€

His sonโ€™s evasion made Sophia suspect something was wrong, but lacking concrete evidence for the moment, she said, โ€œJust donโ€™t let me find out youโ€™re cheating, or mistreating Ellis, or I wonโ€™t let you off the hook.โ€

Sophiaโ€™s concern for Ellis was almost as intense as it would be for her own daughter, occasionally giving him the illusion that his motherโ€™s biological child was Ellis, and he was the adopted one. That was why he disliked Ellis a bit; her cunning ways had his mother wrapped around her finger.

His expression slightly mocking, Easton said, โ€œMom, you might as well ask Ellis to take our surname and be your biological daughter, and just cast me aside.โ€

Ignoring her sonโ€™s sarcasm, Sophia asked again, โ€œAll these things youโ€™re doing, are they to make Ellis drop the idea of divorcing you?โ€

Of course, that wasnโ€™t his intention; he was simply teaching her a lesson to keep her from getting too big for her boots and disrespecting him. To make her fully aware that he wasnโ€™t a toy to be taken or discarded at her whim, and getting rid of him would come at a priceโ€”one that she couldnโ€™t bear and would have to beg him for mercy a thousand times over before heโ€™d consider letting her off the hook.

To keep his mother from seeing through his plans, Easton kept his thoughts to himself and placated her with a lie, โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œWhat about your prenuptial agreement?โ€ Sophia hadnโ€™t forgotten about the prenup.

โ€œMom, did Ellis show you the agreement?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve seen it.โ€

โ€œSince youโ€™ve seen it, donโ€™t you think whether itโ€™s void or not doesnโ€™t matter? As long as Ellis and I donโ€™t divorce, the prenuptial agreement is just a piece of paper.โ€ Easton had never thought about living his life with Ellis, just as he hadnโ€™t thought about initiating a divorce with her. The prenup, drawn up by a lawyer and legally notarized, was just a formality before they got married.
