The big screen displayed the arena in real time. When Sandra heard an exclamation, she looked up to see three racing cars colliding simultaneously. The cars on the left and right attempted to overtake the center car, but misjudged a turn, squeezing the middle car off the road. It smashed through the guardrail and plunged off a cliff. The scene was shocking. The racer's name, Ged, was displayed on the screen.

The moment Tiffany saw Ged's accident, she and Zoe left the bar. Ged's life appeared to be in critical danger. Even if the organizers had sent a rescue vehicle, the car had gone over the cliff with him. Zoe was frantic with worry. “Ged is absurd! Why did he go to an illegal race?” she exclaimed. Extreme racing disregarded life and death; participants either sought thrills or watched others do so. Zoe considered it suicidal.

Tiffany comforted Zoe, "Don't worry. Maybe it's not as bad as it seems," then looked around for a car. Ged's accident was over six miles away; they couldn't reach him on foot. A silver coupe stopped before them. Kenneth was driving. "Get in," he said.

Tiffany, gritting her teeth, pulled Zoe into the car. "Drive faster!" she urged. Kenneth accelerated, commenting, "Someone you care about? I thought you only cared about yourself." The car fell silent; his words were offensive. He regretted them instantly, realizing they misrepresented his feelings. He simply noted the contrast between her treatment of others and of him. Despite Ged's past animosity toward her, she now considered him a friend, yet she’d never treated Kenneth kindly since her personality change. Seeing her expressionless face in the mirror, Kenneth felt frustrated and foolish for even saying anything. He’d impulsively followed her here after hearing she was attending the race.

Zoe scoffed, "Mr. Harper, you're narrow-minded. You only see one side of things." She didn't claim to know Tiffany intimately but had witnessed her sincere side. Tiffany repaid kindness generously; Ged, for instance, had fought alongside her during a trial, even though his contribution was minimal. This, Zoe argued, made him far superior to others in loyalty and sincerity. Zoe turned away, ignoring Kenneth.

After a long silence, Kenneth murmured, "That's not what I meant." "Just drive," Tiffany replied calmly. "Saving Ged is more important." The coupe sped through the night. Fortunately, the road was clear, and they quickly reached the accident site. Rescue personnel were already working, and medical vehicles were on standby.

Tiffany held Zoe back. "Wait here," she instructed, wanting to search for Ged herself. Zoe wanted to follow but Kenneth intervened, "Too many people are unhelpful. I'll go with her." He tossed Zoe the car keys and followed Tiffany down the cliff path. Street lamps and strong headlights illuminated their way, though the area was densely wooded and littered with debris. The wrecked car was a shocking sight. Rescue efforts were hampered by the terrain and limited light penetration. The cliff edge was shrouded in shadow.

Tiffany moved swiftly, leaving Kenneth struggling to keep up. "You should wait at the top," she said dismissively. This stung Kenneth's pride; he's strong-willed and arrogant. "Saving Ged is more important. I won't be a burden," he insisted. He immediately tripped, nearly falling. He looked at Tiffany, embarrassed at his clumsiness. Tiffany ignored him. This further irritated him. Suddenly, he felt water dripping on his head. It was sticky blood. He looked up to see Ged hanging from a tree branch above. Kenneth called out to Tiffany, "He's here! He's hanging from a tree!"

Tiffany found Ged, almost completely concealed by leaves. Kenneth climbed up and sadly confirmed, "He's barely alive." Tiffany quickly rescued him. They rushed him to a waiting ambulance. Ged had suffered serious injuries, but the doctors reported his condition was stable. Ged looked up at the doctor, "You've saved my life!"

Half an hour earlier, Ged had been racing, showing off his driving skills. He'd been overtaken and, in a tight spot, collided with other cars. He'd been flung from the cliff. He’d unbuckled his seatbelt in midair; the car exploded upon impact. He'd landed in a tree, breaking several bones. He felt his life slipping away. He remembered a small packet of medicine Tiffany had given him, initially dismissing it as cocoa beans. He opened it, smelling the medicinal aroma. He took a pill; his wounds rapidly healed. He fainted soon after, the medicine’s effect waning. He awoke to find Tiffany and Kenneth.

Upon seeing Ged alive, Tiffany was relieved, saying, "Don't thank me. Kenneth found you first." Ged insisted the medicine had saved him. Tiffany changed the subject, "Let's go eat. I'm hungry."

Zoe breathed a sigh of relief, then scolded Ged, "Will you court death again? You made us worry!" Ged swore it would never happen again. They left the arena. Kenneth offered a ride but Tiffany refused, wanting to avoid speculation. Ged, unaware of the tension, volunteered to drive since his legs were unharmed. Before leaving, Ged had to pay for the damaged racing cars. Zoe avoided asking the amount.

They arrived home late. Tiffany's family—parents and sister—were waiting, anxiously. Tiffany felt a surge of warmth. She avoided explaining her evening's events, not wanting to worry them. Her mother instructed servants to serve leftover lobster. Tiffany hugged her mother, appreciating the loving scene before her, fearful that this warmth might one day be lost again. After dinner, Tiffany retreated to her room. She noticed the window was closed; her usual nighttime visitor was absent.

While showering, Tiffany was distracted by the absence of her usual nighttime visitor. After showering and wrapping herself in a towel, she heard a voice. "Can I help you?"

Startled, she saw Richard leaning against the wall. After a moment of shock, Tiffany slammed the door. "What a hooligan!" she hissed.

Richard chuckled, "Open the door. I brought you some clothes."

Tiffany opened the door slightly and Richard slipped in her forgotten pajamas and underwear. Minutes later, Tiffany, red-faced, emerged, accusing Richard. "Couldn't you have told me in advance?"

Richard replied, "Alright, I'll be careful next time." Tiffany wondered if he meant he would do it again. Richard then noticed a scratch on her ankle. “Why are you injured?” he asked. Tiffany explained about the mountain road, prompting Richard to ask, “With who?”
