Listen to this chapter:

Tiffany curled up in the van's corner, too scared to make a sound. She looked like a frightened rabbit, her large eyes brimming with tears. Anyone would have felt sorry for her.

Usually, the kidnappers tied their victims to prevent escape. But when they produced the ropes, Tiffany began to sniffle. "Why are you doing this? I've been so good. Why do you need to tie me up?"

She was a spoiled rich kid; it wasn't surprising she was a crybaby. If her father saw his precious daughter hurt when he came to pay the ransom, he would make their lives miserable.

"Sowe just leave her like this? A fragile thing like her can't escape anyway," one kidnapper suggested.

They conferred and agreed. They simply warned her, "Be good, and don't try anything stupid!"

Tiffany nodded miserably.

The van smoothly left the city, traveling farther and farther until it reached a dilapidated old factory in the middle of nowhere—the kidnappers' hideout. It had food and drinks.

Gathering the ten million dollar ransom would take time, especially since they demanded cash to cover their tracks. Getting that much in bills would take until at least the next day.

The kidnappers got out and locked Tiffany in the factory, taking turns keeping watch. If she even considered escaping, they would grab her instantly.

But Tiffany played it cool, showing no interest in running. Instead, she began bossing them around. "Is this what you're giving me to eat? What kind of junk is this? I'd rather starve!"

She threw a tantrum like a spoiled princess, refusing the cold fast food and pouting in the corner.

The kidnappers exchanged confused glances. They had little, and were used to simple food without complaints. But Tiffany acted like a queen, nothing like a kidnap victim.

"If you don't want to eat, that's your problem," one said.

"I'd rather die of hunger than eat this! My dad's coming tomorrow, and he'll see his daughter starving. You think you'll still get that ten million dollars easily then?" Tiffany retorted.

It was clear she held the upper hand.

"Fine, Miss Kelley, what do you want to eat? I'll get it," someone said.

Without a "please" or "thank you," Tiffany rattled off a long list of dishes.

One kidnapper went for food while the other three watched Tiffany. Bored, she wandered around the factory, ignoring their surveillance. Upon returning from inspecting a corner, she heard banging and kicking from a shipping container.

Tiffany suspected someone was inside, tied up. "What's in there?" she asked.

"Nothing, just a sheep. It stinks in here; go look somewhere else if you're bored," a kidnapper replied.

"Open it," Tiffany demanded, raising an eyebrow. Her voice was no longer pitiful, but bossy.

The kidnappers' faces darkened. "Don't push your luck! Just because we're being nice doesn't mean you can do whatever you want."

"Oh really?" Tiffany grinned. Quickly grabbing an axe, she swung it, breaking the lock. Before they could react, she flung open the container door.

A tied-up girl tumbled out, landing at Tiffany's feet. The girl looked shocked and tried to speak through her gag.

Tiffany removed the cloth.

The girl took a deep breath and unleashed a torrent of curses. "You jerks, kidnapping me! You shoved me in this roach-infested place! How dare you?"

The kidnappers' faces grew even darker. This was the girl they'd taken yesterday. Her story was wild. They'd actually been after her classmate, but when this girl saw her friend being grabbed, she'd charged in.

It had been four against one. Her classmate escaped, while this girl was caught.

The kidnappers exchanged glances and advanced, grabbing ropes to tie Tiffany up. They no longer cared if she got bruised; the main thing was to stop her.

The tied-up girl saw this and yelled, "You jerks, ganging up on one person! Stop it!" She struggled, but her bonds held her fast.

She was about to yell again when one kidnapper went flying, followed by a scream of pain and the sound of breaking bones.

Tiffany stood calmly, unfazed. All three kidnappers were on the ground, writhing in pain.

The girl stared at Tiffany, awestruck. "Wow, you're amazing!"

Tiffany chuckled and untied the girl. "So, how did you get caught?"

Embarrassed, the girl told her story. She was still hurt that her classmate had abandoned her.

"Forget it," Tiffany said. The girl held out her hand. "Hey, I'm Zoe Steves."

"I'm Tiffany Kelley," Tiffany replied.

They became friends. Tiffany's act had unexpectedly saved someone.

After being untied, Zoe looked at the moaning kidnappers. "What do we do with these jerks?"

"Tie them up," Tiffany said, tossing Zoe the ropes with a smirk. "Make sure it's tight."

"On it!" Zoe replied. [The final two sentences about the website are promotional and should be removed.]
