Chapter 319
Lauren Booth was furious. She raised the hoe she had been using to dig potatoes. She wanted to beat Sandra Olson to death!
Alarmed, the other villagers with Lauren hurriedly stopped her. “This won’t do! What if you kill her? Calm down!”
“Let go! Don’t stop me!”
Lauren’s eyes were bloodshot with rage. After Sandra had taken every cent of the Booth family’s fortune, her husband had undergone major surgery. Lacking the money for better care, he died in the hospital less than a month later.
Thereafter, Lauren took her only son, Jordan Booth, back to their rural hometown. Jordan had no choice but to work as a bricklayer. Once, he slipped and fell from a building, becoming crippled.
The Booth family had borne the pain of every misfortune alone. How could Lauren calm down?
Her eyes bloodshot, she yelled angrily, “Get lost, all of you! Get lost! No one can stop me. I must kill this bitch today!”
Sandra knew her mother-in-law well. The older woman was probably serious about killing her.
While the others held Lauren back, Sandra found an opportunity to escape. Lauren immediately grabbed her hoe and gave chase.
The two women ran fast. The other villagers were anxious, looking at each other blankly, unsure what to do.
“What… what should we do?”
“I don’t think there will be any trouble. Mrs. Booth is mature enough; she won’t be too unreasonable. Let’s go back first.”
“Might as well.” On their way back, the villagers bumped into the crippled Jordan and updated him.
Initially, they wanted Jordan to dissuade his mother. However, upon hearing that Sandra Olson was still alive, his reaction was even more drastic than his mother’s. He immediately grabbed a machete and ran in the direction the villagers indicated.
“Er…” The villagers didn’t know what to do and could only report the matter to the village chief.
By this time, Sandra had fled far, with Lauren in hot pursuit. Lauren’s tenacity infuriated Sandra, who cursed aloud, “Old witch!”
After running for an unknown time, both women stopped, exhausted. While Sandra caught her breath, Lauren pounced, roaring, “Pay back what you owe! Money for money, life for life! You ruined my family. I want you to die a horrible death!” She swung the hoe down.
Sandra, having learned some skills from Felix Quaid, rolled out of the way. She grabbed a handful of dust and threw it at the older woman.
Before Lauren could react, she was blinded by the dust and tripped. She fell, dropping the hoe.
Sandra sneered. “Do you think I’m afraid of you?” There had been many people around earlier, preventing her from acting. Now, it was easy to kill this woman.
Sandra picked up the hoe. A vicious glint appeared in her eyes. “Old witch, die!” She raised the hoe and swung.
By the time Lauren brushed away the sand, it was too late. The hoe swung down—a lethal strike.
Suddenly, a coin flew out of nowhere, accurately hitting Sandra’s wrist.
“Argh!” The pain made her drop the hoe.
Lauren seized the opportunity, pushing Sandra to the ground and strangling her. However, Sandra reacted quickly and counterattacked.
A cloud of dust rose as the two women fought viciously on the deserted mountain, scratching, strangling, and pulling each other’s hair.
On a nearby tree, Jeremy Cooper hid in the leaves, watching with trepidation. What a vicious catfight!
After a long fight, Sandra gained the upper hand. She picked up a rock and flung it at Lauren, hitting her instantly. Lauren’s head bled, and she lost her ability to fight.
“You’re the one courting death. Don’t blame me!” Sandra’s eyes blazed as she prepared to attack again.
At that moment, the limping Jordan arrived with a machete. Seeing the woman who repaid kindness with ingratitude, his eyes turned bloodshot with anger. “You bitch, return my money!”
Hearing her son’s voice, Lauren perked up. “Capture her! No matter what, we can’t let her escape today!”
Mother and son joined forces. One was bad enough; now there were two. Sandra gritted her teeth, turned, and fled into the forest.
“After her!” Lauren roared.
The sky darkened. Nightfall shrouded the mountaintop in darkness, reducing visibility.
Sandra ran until she almost collapsed. She wished she hadn’t let her subordinates leave the mountain. This tenacious mother and son relentlessly pursued her. How infuriating!
Sandra was on the verge of madness. She looked for a hiding place but, to her shock, she had unwittingly circled back to where her subordinates had spent the afternoon planting bombs. She still had the detonator.
Sandra hesitated. She had begged Felix Quaid for these miniature bombs, originally intending to use them against Tiffany Kelley. But now she was being chased by mad dogs. If she didn’t eliminate them, she probably wouldn’t survive. But using the bombs would lose her a good opportunity against Tiffany. Either way, she would lose.
“Argh!” Sandra was flustered and anxious. The Booth mother and son had surrounded her. Jordan held a gleaming machete and approached step by step.
Jordan hated Sandra intensely. He’d married her, spending millions on a lavish wedding and a luxurious life. She had repaid his kindness by scheming to take all his family’s money and properties, leaving them penniless and on the streets. To survive, he’d taken a job and become crippled. How could he not hate her?
Overwhelmed with rage, Jordan dragged his machete on the ground. Sandra backed away, hand gripping the detonator. “Don’t come near me, or I’ll really kill you!”
Lauren sneered. “Pfft! You’re still stubborn in the face of death. Why don’t you run? There’s a big rock behind you. Let’s see if you can fly.”
Jordan moved closer, menacingly. “Mom, don’t talk nonsense with her. Capture her!”
Lauren was about to lunge when Sandra raised her head, a sinister smile on her face. “Fine. You all asked for it!” She pressed the detonator.
