Chapter 540
"Don't you?"
They had fallen out. Melody had grown tired of the pretense. No matter how obedient she acted, she couldn't win over the cold-hearted couple. She decided to be forthright.
"This is what you owe me. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be stranded and suffering while that bitch Tiffany took my place. Isn't this your fault?"
Thalia was incredulous. She couldn't believe how this well-behaved child had changed. Melody was greedy, frightening, and utterly lacking in morals.
Thalia felt a pang of guilt, but it vanished with Melody's words.
"I'll give you another $200,000, in advance for next month. Not a cent more if you spend it early," Thalia said, waving her hand.
"No! We're talking about four million dollars!"
Melody was frantic, wanting to confront Thalia. Kenneth had discovered her collusion with Felixan, jeopardizing her chances with the Harper family and potentially leading to revenge. She needed a substantial amount of money. Thalia's offer was insulting.
Is she trying to dismiss a beggar? Melody thought.
Losing control, Melody lunged at Thalia, pinching her painfully. Thalia cried out, "Ah, it hurts! What are you doing? Let go!"
"Give me money! Give me money!" Melody screamed, acting wildly. Her actions suggested that if she weren't after money, she might have bitten Thalia's neck.
The horrified servants rushed to intervene, but Tiffany acted first, picking up Melody and throwing her to the ground.
"BANG!"
Melody curled up, screaming in pain. Tears streamed down her face.
Tiffany said, "Throw her out."
"Yes!"
The servants obeyed, assisted by the chauffeur. Melody was ejected through the iron gate, which was then locked, the combination changed.
Tiffany helped Thalia up, asking, "Mom, are you alright?"
"I'm fine" Thalia replied, patting her chest. Her expression was complex.
Tiffany, considerate, didn't press further, going upstairs after ensuring Thalia was okay.
I'll tell the family about my trip at dinner. But first, I need to deal with Melody, Tiffany thought. Her eyes flickered, and she called June.
The autumn night was cool and slightly rainy. A sanitation worker swept the streets, a seemingly endless task. She sighed, turning to continue her work, when she noticed a pair of women's leather shoes.
Looking up, she saw an unfamiliar face.
"You are?" the woman asked.
"June Spencer."
June assessed the woman, asking, "I remember you as a makeup artist. How did you end up sweeping streets?"
The woman was Avianna Santiago, the makeup artist from Melody and Kenneth's engagement day. Melody's allergic reaction had ruined her appearance, leaving even the most skilled makeup artist helpless. Enraged, Melody had kicked Avianna, who was pregnant, causing a miscarriage.
While the Harper and Kelley families compensated her, Avianna's request for an apology went unanswered. Melody retaliated, blacklisting her from the industry.
Destitute, Avianna became a sanitation worker.
June's introduction and direct mention of Avianna's identity elicited a bitter laugh. "Why? To kick me while I'm down? You've seen my situation. Go away."
"No, you misunderstand. I'm not here to insult you. I'm here to" June smiled, raising an eyebrow. "Offer timely help."
"What do you mean?"
"Don't you want revenge for your child?" June sighed. "I understand you wanted to provide for your child, but you lost them"
Avianna remained silent, her grip on the broom tightening. Her anger was palpable.
"Get to the point. What do you want?" Avianna asked.
June laughed, her expression growing serious. Leaning in, she whispered into Avianna's ear. The streetlights were dim, their figures partially obscured by shadow and falling leaves.
After a long moment, Avianna nodded, hatred flashing in her eyes. The loss of her child, caused by Melody's actions, fueled her desire for revenge.
"Will you keep your promise?" Avianna asked.
"Of course."
June handed her a check for $200,000. "This is so you don't have to worry. Don't disappoint me."
"Of course," Avianna replied, discarding her broom. "Just wait and see!"
