Chapter 660

"He's still pretending," Zoe thought, furious. She pulled a photograph from her pocket and said coldly, "Your fiancée gave me this photo this afternoon. She said it was in your wallet."

It seemed unreasonable that a woman with such easy access to his wallet wouldn't be close to him.

Sidney was stunned. He immediately checked his wallet; the photo was gone. His expression darkened. "Who gave it to you?" he asked.

"What? You don't even know who your fiancée is?" Zoe pouted, then named the woman: "Kate Swift." It was the name the woman had given at the café that afternoon.

"Her!" Sidney clenched his fists. Kate had been just a blind date. His parents had forced him to attend a party the previous week, where he'd met the Swift family. The elders had wanted him to bring Kate to Lovell City to familiarize herself with the area, hoping for a marriage alliance. He'd refused, disgusted. However, Kate had been pursuing him relentlessly, claiming to be his fiancée. He'd avoided confrontation, but hadn't expected her to get Zoe's photo from his wallet and use it.

Kate even warned Zoe, as my fiancée? What did she say? No wonder Zoe didn't answer my calls and rejected me so strongly, Sidney thought. His expression was grim.

Zoe, however, mistook his anger for guilt. She sneered, "Am I making myself clear, Mr. Pauley? You have a fiancée; keep your affections for her and stay away from me."

She tried to sound casual, turning to leave. Unexpectedly, Sidney called out, "Fiancee? She's not!"

She stopped, but didn't turn around. So what if she isn't? It's none of my business, she thought.

As she walked away, a strong hand seized her arm. She was pulled back, into Sidney's kiss, followed by his serious words: "Keep my heart? Then come and see where my heart truly lies…"

Zoe was stunned, her words caught in her throat. A cold touch lingered on her lips as their breaths mingled.

Zoe's eyes widened. The initial shock and panic gave way to a surge of anger. She pushed him away, but he held her tighter, until she could barely breathe.

"Goddamn it!" she exclaimed.

Zoe pushed him away, furiously wiping her mouth. Her eyes were red, her voice choked with tears. "Why did you provoke me? What right do you have?"

How infuriating! I was splashed with coffee today, called a shameless mistress. I've done nothing wrong, yet I've been unjustly wronged. I hate you, she thought, tears finally flowing freely.

Seeing her cry, Sidney panicked. "Don't cry, please. I'm sorry." He was usually so adept at advising his friends on love, but now, faced with his own feelings, he was lost. He didn't know how to comfort her.

"Please don't cry," he pleaded.

"Go away. Don't touch me."

Zoe wiped her tears, shaking him off, and attempted to leave. He stopped her, saying calmly, "Look at me. What do you think of me?"

Zoe looked up angrily, meeting his serious gaze. "I swear I've never had a fiancée. Ask Tiffany; she'll know."

Tiffany wouldn't lie for me, would she? Sidney thought.

"That woman, Kate Swift," Sidney explained, "was a blind date, a potential marriage alliance my family suggested. I rejected her. She's been pursuing me, but I've made it clear I'm not interested. I'll warn her about falsely claiming to be my fiancée and cut ties completely."

His words were sincere, his eyes clear and unwavering. He truly didn't know about the photo.

"And my heart is with you," Sidney said, looking at her intently. "Even if I had a fiancée, it would be you. Only you."

He meant it. It was his confession.

He moved closer, nervous, his grip on her shoulder tightening. "What about you? Do you have no feelings for me?"

Waiting for Zoe's response felt like an eternity.

Zoe was stunned. They had agreed to separate, and now this? A confession? Her heart pounded. She didn't know what to say.

But one thought dominated her mind: Even if the fiancée thing is fake, and Kate is the one pursuing him, what about Molly? Molly is so intelligent, kind, and quiet. Doesn't he feel anything for her?

"What about Miss Ruiz?" Zoe asked. "You're not interested in her, but you're so kind to her."

"Molly Ruiz!" Sidney paused. "I've met Molly twice. Once at the wedding banquet the day before yesterday, and again last night. She's Tiffany's cousin. I saw her alone on the street and offered her my spare apartment. Nothing more."

Zoe snorted, her jealousy evident. "You may think so, but Molly doesn't. The elegant Mr. Pauley is a dream for many women. She'll inevitably fall for your kindness."

Sidney choked. "Then I'll have her move out tomorrow?"

Zoe rolled her eyes.

Sidney finally understood. "Don't worry, I won't be so helpful again. I won't give any woman a chance to admire me secretly."

He was serious, but Zoe laughed. "You're so silly."

"Do you like me?" Sidney pressed, demanding an answer.

Zoe stepped back, stumbled on a curb, and fell. Sidney caught her, but they both ended up on the ground.
