Chapter 116

“The Hughes family? Then what did you say Amber Vase belonged to your family?” Landon asked, looking at Daniel with suspicion.

As far as Landon knew, the Zuckerberg family had a grudge against the Hughes family, and the two families hadn’t had any contact for many years. Besides, the hostess of the Zuckerberg family’s surname was Meyers, not Hughes.

“To be honest, my birth mother’s surname is Hughes.” As the memory replayed in his head, Daniel looked a little sad.

Amelia’s heartbeat suddenly hammered against her chest. She thought, ‘It’s weird. Daniel’s sad emotions actually affected me!’

“You are joking, Mr. Zuckerberg,” Landon smiled. “Your mother’s surname should be Meyers.”

“Have you investigated me?” Daniel’s eyes turned cold, looking vigilant.

Amelia stood in front of Landon in a protective gesture. “Didn’t you investigate us, Mr. Zuckerberg?” Her tone became sharp. Her response was discourteous, but Gloria and Landon were delighted by her true feelings.

“Don’t be nervous, Mrs. Kingsley. All I want is Amber Vase. I won’t hurt anyone.” Daniel tried to be friendly and softened his tone.

Alaric, the assistant beside Daniel, was surprised. Alaric thought, ‘Mr. Zuckerberg has always been cold and ruthless, but today, he actually softened his attitude towards a woman.’

“Mr. Zuckerberg, you said that Amber Vase was your family’s. Do you have any evidence?” Amelia asked.

“Of course. My mother had the list of wedding gifts when she got married, but I don’t have it with me now,” Daniel said with a frown.

Landon smiled, “Then let’s discuss and figure out the ownership of Amber Vase.”

“Good.” Daniel’s compromise once again surprised Alaric. “Mr. Kingsley, can you let me take a look at Amber Vase to confirm its authenticity?”

“Okay.” Landon nodded. “Honey, go open the safe and take Amber Vase.”

“Hmm,” Amelia responded and went upstairs to take Amber Vase, and Gloria asked a maid to serve coffee and cakes.

Landon and Daniel drank coffee, sitting across the table. At first glance, they were both handsome and noble. The atmosphere seemed quite harmonious.

However, in fact, they disliked each other. Landon thought Daniel was coveting Amelia, and Daniel thought Landon, a man who ordered his wife, was not a good man. They looked at each other with disdain and waited for Amelia to come downstairs with Amber Vase.

“Landon, come here. I can’t open the safe,” Amelia shouted while standing on the stairs.

Landon thought, ‘I knew this would happen, but how could Amy call me by my name? Daniel is still here.‘ Landon pretended not to hear Amelia and continued to drink coffee.

Daniel was speechless, reminding Landon with a sullen face, “Mrs. Kingsley is calling you.”

“Oh? I didn’t hear it,” Landon said loudly.

Amelia, who was standing on the stairs, heard this. She took a deep breath and said, “Hubby, help me check the safe.”

“Yeah, I’m coming.” Landon put down the cup and immediately wheeled to the elevator.

Seeing this, Daniel rolled his eyes. He thought, ‘This scheming guy.’

“Did you enter the wrong password?” Landon asked.

“No,” Amelia frowned. “I suspect this safe is broken.”

“I’ll try.” Landon moved forward and entered the wrong password, and then the safe opened.

Amelia was surprised. “How did you do it?”

“Enter the password.” Landon shrugged, raised his chin, and looked smug.

“You knew the password?” Amelia pointed at herself and asked in disbelief.

Landon nodded and said, “It’s 230327.”

Amelia yelled in anger, “Landon!” She thought, ‘The password he recited is only one figure different from the real one. He must have peeped at it when I set the password. I have no secrets in front of him.’

“I didn’t peek at it. I figured it out by listening to the keypad tone,” Landon explained.

Amelia didn’t believe it. “You are lying. The keypad tone is almost the same. How can you tell differences among numbers according to the tone?”

Landon said confidently, “I can do it. You can quiz me.”

Still dubious, Amelia pressed a key.

Landon said accurately, “Five.”

Amelia was shocked, thinking, ‘It must be a coincidence.‘ She then pressed two keys.

Landon said, “Three and seven.”

Amelia was dumbfounded. She thought, ‘He’s right. Does he really have the ability to identify numbers according to the tone?‘ She was convinced, saying, “You are a genius.”

“Um.” Landon nodded. He was a genius, and he should have started his own career. Unfortunately, after his father died young, Gloria was bullied by Henry. To protect Gloria and himself, Landon had to give up his dream and become a businessman.

“Landon, you are awesome,” Amelia praised. She thought, ‘I’ll change the password when you are not around.‘

“It’s better not to change it, or you’ll make a mistake again,” Landon saw through her thoughts.

Amelia was embarrassed. “The password is 230325, but I just pressed the wrong number.”

Landon smiled, “Fortunately, I heard it.”

“Well.” Amelia gave up changing the password. There were only two things in the safe—the pendant and the Amber Vase. The pendant was only worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, and the Amber Vase, the most valuable thing in the safe, was bought by Landon. There was no need to guard against him.

“I won’t change the password.” Amelia held Amber Vase in one hand and wheeled Landon’s wheelchair with the other.

In fact, the wheelchair was a specially customized electric wheelchair, and at critical moments, Landon could even launch hidden weapons to defeat the enemy. Amelia didn’t need to wheel it at all, but she still did it out of habit.

When the elevator door opened, Daniel saw Amelia standing behind Landon with a gentle smile. The two were really a good match.

Daniel frowned, and then he shifted his gaze to Amber Vase. With just one glance, he was sure it was what he was looking for. “It’s really my mother’s,” Daniel stood up, revealing his excitement.

Amelia handed Daniel the Amber Vase. “Take a closer look, Mr. Zuckerberg.”

“There is a crack at the mouth of the vase. It must be the one of my mother’s.” Daniel took deep breaths to control his emotions. He held Amber Vase in his arms and looked at it carefully, caressing it in excitement.

Amelia tugged at the corner of Landon’s clothes and whispered, “Look, his self–control is better than yours.”

“Huh,” Landon sneered. He thought, ‘If I weren’t restrained enough, I would have owned you long ago.’

“It seems that his love for Amber Vase is no less than mine. Could it really belong to his mother’s?” Amelia was worried. She thought, ‘What can I do if Daniel really has the list of wedding gifts and proves that the Amber Vase is his mother’s?’

“Don’t worry. Time will prove everything.” Landon patted her hands to comfort Amelia. At the same time, Landon thought, ‘Debra Hughes and the Hughes family… The owners of the two Amber Vases have the same surname. Is it a coincidence…

“Please keep Amber Vase well.” Daniel returned it to Amelia solemnly, and thought, ‘This is my mother’s thing. I will go back and look for the list of wedding gifts. No matter what, I have to take Amber Vase back.’

“Mr. Zuckerberg…” Amelia held the vase and suddenly felt anxious.

“Don’t worry, I won’t take it by force. We can discuss it when I come with the list of wedding gifts,” Daniel said.

Landon said, “Okay. See you next time, Mr. Zuckerberg.”

“See you.” Daniel glanced at Amber Vase and hurried away with his assistant.

Amelia looked at his back, inexplicably feeling an overwhelming sense of loss.

Landon lowered his head and sent a message to Aaron: [Check the youngest daughter of the Hughes family in Lunova.]
