Chapter 119
"Get out of my way," Landon said, looking angry.
Elaine didn’t expect to be yelled at. She was a little stunned, saying, "Landon, I’m here for business. You–"
"I’m busy." Landon just wanted to accompany Amelia immediately.
"Landon." Elaine stamped her foot in grievance. "Don’t you want the business?"
The driver, Owen, said, "Ms. Atkinson, please come here another day." Then, he pushed Landon into the car and drove away.
Seeing the car drive away, Elaine felt depressed. She got in the car and called Patrick, "Landon ignored me. Where is the opportunity you mentioned?"
"Opportunities are everywhere. Ms. Atkinson, seize them yourself," Patrick said meaningfully and hung up the phone.
Elaine was still puzzled. When Donna’s birthday party was over that day, Elaine had been humiliated on the spot. After that, Patrick had contacted her. He had told her that he would help her win Landon over, and she only needed to come to the company today to pester Landon.
Elaine felt guilty, so she asked her father for a project as an excuse to get close to Landon. Unexpectedly, she didn’t even have the chance to have a conversation with Landon.
Elaine thought, ‘What’s going on?’ When she got in the car, a small medicine bottle fell out of her bag and was left in the parking lot.
In Kingsley Villa, Amelia lay weakly on the bed and rested. She couldn’t sleep well and felt weak when she was awake.
The menstrual flow was large, so Amelia had to get up to change the tampon every hour or so. Every time she stood up, she felt dizzy. She was so weak, even weaker than when she ran out of the operating room after her rebirth.
"Who drugged me?" Amelia hated the person who had drugged her. Her daily life was very simple, going to work and returning home. She ate either in the cafeteria or at home. The number of times she ate outside was very few.
Amelia couldn’t help but think, ‘Who could have the opportunity to drug me? Rhea?’
Amelia suddenly thought of Rhea, who had been bribed with a large sum of money by Patrick. After several investigations, there was nothing unusual. Rhea had thought Patrick had taken a fancy to her. Later, the matter had been dropped.
Amelia thought, ‘Could it be that Rhea added drugs to the food?’ Amelia felt panicked about this. She couldn’t help but think, ‘Oh, no. Landon might have also been drugged. His health has not fully recovered yet. Can he withstand the drug’s effects?’
"Honey, I’m back." Landon wheeled into the room and looked at Amelia with concern. "How do you feel now?"
"I lost too much blood and have to stay in bed." Amelia leaned against the head of the bed. "The doctor said I have to stay in bed and rest, so I can’t go to work these few days. How do you feel? Do you have any strange feeling?"
Amelia was weak, but she was still worried about Landon. It made Landon feel very moved.
Amelia continued, "I suspect Rhea, the person in charge of the exclusive cafeteria. She has accepted bribes from Patrick. Landon, we have been eating and living together these days. Since I have been drugged, I am afraid you have been drugged too."
The medicine in her body would be metabolized in a few months, but Landon’s condition was different. She was afraid that the drug would affect his recovery progress or injure him.
"I’m fine. That medicine only hurts women," Landon took Amelia’s hand and stroked it, looking very gentle.
"Good." Amelia breathed a sigh of relief. Then, she thought she was crazy. She was feeling unwell, but she still cared about him.
Landon glanced at the blood replenishing and menstruation–regulating medicine on the bedside table, and he felt distressed for her. Such ordinary medicine couldn’t cure Amelia at all.
"I’ve already taken the medicine. Don’t worry. I’ll be fine," Amelia smiled.
Her face was pale, and her smile made Landon feel distressed. He wished to help her relieve the pain, but there was nothing he could do. He thought, ‘Maybe Amy will have to spend her whole life in pain.’
"You came back early today. It’s not time to get off work yet," Amelia said.
"I’m worried about you." Landon pressed his thin lips.
Amelia smiled, "Women are so pitiful. We have a few days like this every month. It would be good if I were a man."
After saying a few words, Amelia began to gasp. Landon held her hand. "Stop talking. Sleep for a while. I’ll ask someone to investigate Rhea."
"Um." Amelia was weak and tired, so she closed her eyes and fell asleep again. In the dream, she was trapped in Amber Vase, and no one came to save her.
Landon stayed by her side. Seeing her frown, he couldn’t hold back his anger. He thought, ‘I must find out the person and avenge Amy’s sufferings.’
…
Amelia stayed in bed for another two days. Landon had gone to work late and left early these two days. He wanted to stay at home as much as possible to accompany her.
Gloria finally realized something was wrong. She asked, "Landon, what happened to Amy?"
"She has anemia, so she has to rest at home until her period ends. Mom, take good care of her," Landon said.
"Okay." Gloria breathed a sigh of relief. She thought, ‘Women are weak during the period. But Amy seems to be too weak. She needs to be well nourished so that she can get pregnant.’
On the third day, Amelia finally felt better. Looking at Landon, whose jaw was covered with stubble, she felt touched and wanted to shed tears. "You don’t have to stay by my side. I’m fine." It had been a long time since someone had been there for her when she was sick.
"Anyway, there’s nothing important in the company," Landon smiled. "I’m afraid you’ll have nightmares again."
"I did have them," Amelia sighed. "It seems that I’m more likely to have nightmares when I’m weak."
"How about we ask a psychic for help?" Landon joked deliberately.
Amelia smiled, "Tell the psychic that your wife had nightmares during her period?"
"Right." Landon nodded seriously.
Amelia was amused, and the depression caused by the pain and nightmares for days was swept away. She laughed, "Landon, you will be laughed at for doing this."
Landon smiled, "I don’t think so. The psychic would only praise me for loving my wife."
Amelia was stunned. The word "love" was like a heavy stone landing on her heart, stunning her and making her feel sweet. She murmured, "Landon-"
"Call me hubby."
"Hubby."
"No matter what happens, I’ll always be there for you."
"Hmm," Amelia smiled. Sweetness didn’t come every day, so she had to savor it when it came.
Just then, Landon’s phone rang. It was a call from Aaron. Amelia just wanted to urge Landon to handle his business and not worry about her, and Landon had already gone outside to answer the phone. Usually, he never avoided telling her about work matters.
Amelia thought something was wrong. She got out of bed, followed quietly, and put her ear to the door to eavesdrop.
"It’s her? Control her, and I’ll interrogate her. So what if she comes from the Atkinson family? Anyone who hurts my wife must pay the price." Landon’s voice was low, but it revealed his fury.
Amelia thought, ‘The Atkinson family? Elaine Atkinson? The person who secretly drugged me and caused me so much pain is Elaine?’ Amelia opened the door with a sullen face. "Take me with you."
"Honey?" Landon turned around in surprise. When he saw Amelia’s angry face, he was shocked, thinking, ‘Why did she get out of bed?’
"The person who drugged me is Elaine, right?" Amelia asked.
Landon hesitated for a moment and then admitted, "Yes."
"I want to get back at her." Amelia stared at Landon and thought, ‘Will he agree? This matter caused me so much pain. I won’t let Elaine go. But if Landon doesn’t agree, there is nothing I can do.’
