Chapter 123

“Honey…” Landon looked at Amelia. He felt helpless because he didn’t know how to comfort women. He would hand over a tissue if they shed tears. However, Amelia had no tears on her face.

She sat motionless on the sofa, and her gaze was empty. Landon had never seen Amelia so listless, so he was scared. “Honey…”

“Patrick was right. Not your fault,” Amelia suddenly opened her mouth, but her words upset Landon.

“Honey, it is. He wouldn’t have hurt you if I hadn’t made you stay,” Landon argued.

“Without you, I couldn’t survive in the hospital that day,” Amelia sighed. Perhaps that was the cost of her previous choice. She didn’t blame Landon.

“You have my word that I will be responsible for you. I will be with you even if we have no children.”

“Don’t you look down upon me?” Amelia raised her head and looked at Landon with her red and swollen eyes.

With a loving smile, Landon held Amelia’s hand and said, “Of course not. You didn’t look down upon me when I was in a vegetative state.”

“Back then, I needed the protection of the Kingsley family. Deep down, I didn’t want to marry you.” Amelia showed a bitter smile. “Landon, I am not that good as you think…”

“Don’t you think that I was lucky?” Landon asked with a smiling face.

Bitterness welled up in Amelia. “Landon, the Kingsley family needs an heir, so you will have to have children.”

She thought, “I should leave the Kingsley family as Elaine said. The Kingsley family won’t tolerate a sterile daughter–in–law. For my own dignity, I had better take the initiative to leave.”

“You and I will raise a family together. Let me know when you are ready to have children. Tell me how many children you want, and I will satisfy you in my way,” Landon said.

Amelia knew what Landon’s way meant. She was afraid of the objections from Gloria and Donna, and she didn’t like that solution. “Landon…”

Landon said, “I disabled Patrick and exiled him to Waldron. In this way, he can’t hurt you again.”

Amelia gasped in shock. “You… You got yourself in trouble.”

Landon shot back, “Who knows?” Amelia was lost for words. At the same time, she felt inspired.

“If you are still mad at him, let’s make his son ours and later turn against him,” Landon suggested. What a dirty trick!

Amelia finally relaxed, and a smile lit up her face. “Forget it! I have no interest in raising his child.”

“Fine, your call.” Landon stroked Amelia’s fingers one by one. He thought, “How cold her hand is! Let me warm it with my chest!” By impulse, he pulled his shirt and put Amelia’s hand onto his chest.

“What are you doing?” Amelia was agape with shock.

“Warming your hand.” Landon had a straight face.

Beneath Amelia’s palm was Landon’s muscular chest… How shameful! Amelia’s sadness was replaced by shyness.

Amelia intended to withdraw her hand, but Landon grasped it. “Don’t move as your hand is so cold,” Landon said softly.

“Landon…” Amelia yielded. She quietly felt Landon’s warmth and heartbeat.

“No collaboration,” Landon said tenderly. “We’re husband and wife now.”

Since Amelia fought for Landon, he would give her a home. Two hearts broken by their families found warmth in each other.

Amelia stammered, “I… You…”

“I love you. Do you love me?” Landon lifted Amelia’s chin, and the two pairs of eyes met. His gaze was soft, and his magnetic voice was bewitching.

Amelia was bewitched as her heart fluttered. “I… I…”

“A bit? It is alright.”

“Yes…” Amelia lowered her eyes shyly, her heart pounding wildly. How could she not love Landon since his protection was the only warmth throughout her life?

However, she was unsure of how much she loved him and how long his love would last.

To an orphan like her, the Kingsley family was beyond her reach. To make things worse, she couldn’t bear children anymore.

“That’s enough,” Landon murmured with a faint smile. “We’ll take it slow.”

“I… I don’t know,” Amelia whispered. She didn’t want to get hurt anymore since Zachary’s betrayal still haunted her.

“Don’t you trust me?” Landon asked softly.

“It’s not like that…”

“Then try. Be my girlfriend and later my wife, when you are ready.” Landon showed a bright smile.

Soft and genteel, Amelia was a conservative lady. She’d been in one relationship and ended up with a broken heart. It was understandable that she needed time to move on.

As it happened, Landon had never really been in a serious relationship. He decided to take it slow.

“Landon, why are you so good to me?” Amelia asked softly.

“Besides my mom and my sister, you’re the only woman who risked her life for me,” Landon replied.

Stunned, Amelia murmured, “You’re the only person who is good to me, except for my mom.”

“Shall we head home now?”

“Let’s go.”
