Chapter 127
"I am talking about my treatment!" Amelia stamped her foot in frustration. Didn't she make herself quite clear?
Landon knitted his brows. "Didn't we agree on no treatment yesterday?"
"I don't want to give up," Amelia sighed. She couldn't tell Landon the truth because the weight of Gloria's love was so heavy.
"You're way too stubborn." Landon gently ruffled Amelia's hair. "Just let it go, okay?"
"Just let me try, okay? I know what I'm doing!" Amelia said.
"Fine." Landon finally relented, and Amelia let out a sigh of relief.
"By the way, didn't you say that there would be a surprise?"
"Here you are." Landon produced a photo of Catherine, who looked bright and elegant with wise eyes. Amelia felt familiar and a bit weird.
"Who is she?" Amelia's heart pounded with apprehension. By instinct, Amelia felt that the woman in the photo was connected with her. She didn't know why she became nervous all of a sudden.
Landon said quietly, "She's Daniel's biological mother, Catherine Hughes."
"Oh…" Amelia let out a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness she has nothing to do with me," she thought.
"She has another name, and that is Debra."
"What?" Amelia's knees went soft at the shocking news. "There must be a misunderstanding. How could my mom be the hostess of the Zuckerberg family?"
The Zuckerberg family in Lunova was rich and powerful, and the Kingsley family was far inferior to them. Therefore, it was difficult for Amelia to connect her mother with such a prominent family.
"It is confirmed that your mother is a Hughes in Lunova. Your father is Walter." Landon then reminded, "Get ready."
Amelia was confused. "For what?"
"According to the information from the Zuckerberg family, Catherine died a long time ago," Landon stated.
The dead woman suddenly came back to life and gave birth to children for another man. What a great disgrace to the Zuckerberg family!
Why did the Hughes family say that Catherine was already dead when she was still alive?
Why did they let their beloved child become a wanderer? Why did they let Walter kill her after Amelia was born?
All the answers to these questions led to a story the Zuckerberg family and the Hughes family tried to hold back from the public.
"Well, don't dump me after the Hughes family finds you." Landon lifted the mood with a joke.
Amelia turned pale as her eyebrows furrowed deeply. She didn't know the true identity of her mother till now. Never had she seen Daniel.
She was determined to avenge her mother, but she hadn't thought of seeking help from others. Now, some unexpected help might come her way.
"Honey? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Amelia took a deep breath to collect herself. "Let's wait till they come."
"Don't dump me."
"You have my word."
Landon's fear amused Amelia, so she added, "Don't look down upon me if I become a disgrace to both the Hughes family and the Zuckerberg family."
"Never." Landon pulled Amelia into his embrace. "You are my wife no matter what happens," he thought.
After Jaden, Gloria took Amelia to visit several famous doctors, but each visit ended with disappointment.
The repetition of disappointment was devastating. Gradually, Gloria gave up hope. She became taciturn and often sighed when alone.
Fortunately, she didn't make things difficult for Amelia. She was good to Amelia as before.
One day, Amelia's sterility began to mutate into headlines.
[Have you read the news? Amelia is sterile, and Gloria takes her to see the doctor.]
[Why is she sterile? Did she fool around with men before this marriage?]
[Didn't she almost get married to Zachary? That relationship may be the reason.]
Rumors went viral and soon came to Amelia’s attention.
The serious Brooke comforted Amelia by saying, "Don't take the rumors to heart."
"I won't." Amelia forced a faint smile. After all the trials, she was already immune to rumors.
"I did nothing wrong, so let them say whatever they like," Amelia soothed Brooke instead.
Brooke blinked in surprise and admired Amelia for her fortitude. It didn't take long for Donna to get the news.
Donna had changed her opinion of Amelia because Landon woke up.
Now that Amelia couldn't bear children, Donna quickly took Cynthia to the company.
"Amelia, you are sterile, so you are not a good match for Landon anymore. Get lost now!" Donna shouted upon her arrival at the company.
"Donna." With respect, Amelia led Donna into her office and told her secretaries to leave them alone.
"It is useless to play up to me. The Kingsley family won't tolerate a sterile woman." Donna glared at Amelia. "Just be frank with me. How much do you need to walk away from Landon?"
Amelia felt speechless. Didn't Donna try to solve the problem with money? Fine! "I want the Kingsley Group," Amelia answered.
Instantly, Donna was agape with shock.
"Amelia, I just knew it. You came for the Kingsley Group from the very beginning," Cynthia began to curse at Amelia. "How greedy! How presumptuous!"
"Cynthia, why don't you mind your own business? Does Patrick lead a quiet life and stop causing trouble for you?" Out of respect to Donna, Amelia just shot back at Cynthia.
In a panic, Cynthia snapped, "To the Kingsley family, your sterility matters a lot."
"More important than your son?" Amelia sneered.
Patrick had been exiled for days, but his parents seemed ignorant of that. It seemed they didn't care about him at all.
"We are talking about you. Don't get Patrick involved." Speaking, Cynthia spat.
Donna finally recovered from shock. She pointed a finger at Amelia and screamed, "How dare you covet the Kingsley Group! You bichi! Three hundred thousand dollars! That's all I will give you."
"Yes, 300 thousand dollars, and get lost right away!" Cynthia repeated.
"Leave now if you don't want to become a laughingstock; otherwise, I will let the security guards drag you away," Donna threatened.
Cynthia and Donna cooperated well, and they were determined to drive Amelia away that day.
Amelia casually took a sip of coffee and let Donna and Cynthia say whatever they wanted. Those harsh words couldn't hurt her anymore.
In turn, Donna and Cynthia had lashed out at Amelia for more than one hour, but Amelia remained calm without the slightest change in expression. In the end, Donna and Cynthia realized that they were the laughingstocks there.
"Amelia, you bitch!" Fuming with rage, Donna raised her cane to beat Amelia.
Brooke darted over and caught the cane in the air. "Madam, calm down, please."
"Brooke, are you on her side? She can't bear children," Donna shouted angrily. She wouldn't relent when it came to the offspring of the Kingsley family.
Brooke said, "Madam, Patrick was the reason for her sterility."
"What?" Both Donna and Cynthia shouted in shock.
