Listen to this chapter:

Kayla walked back into the house, guilt gnawing at her as she remembered how Poppy had taken her place and done those terrible things. “Mom, Amelia…”

“Kayla, you’re back,” Amelia said, waddling over with her big belly.

Amelia looked fine, and neither Landon nor Tuff showed any signs of injury. That meant their plan had worked!

“You must’ve felt terrible, thinking it was me hurting you,” Kayla asked.

“Not really. I realized pretty early on that she was just a stand-in,” Amelia replied with a smile.

Kayla was stunned. “But Poppy looks so much like me…”

“No matter how much she looks like you, there are always little differences,” Amelia gave a small, secretive smile. “I just didn’t tell Mom—I was afraid she’d accidentally give it away.”

Gloria glared at her, pretending to be angry. “Amelia! Why do you keep everything from me?”

“I was just afraid you wouldn’t be able to keep up the act, Mom,” Amelia said bluntly.

“Hmph!” Gloria pulled her daughter into a warm hug. ‘Everyone in the family is so amazing, except for me, their useless mom.’

“We’re finally all together again,” Gloria said softly.

“Yeah,” Kayla let out a heartfelt sigh.

Thank goodness for her clever brother and sister-in-law. If it weren’t for them, the Kingsley family would never have survived this ordeal.

“Nothing bad will happen from now on, right?” Gloria asked, still a little worried.

“No. Aiden will bring Landen back,” Kayla replied.

Amelia looked surprised and turned to Landon. “You guys let him go?”

“He’s genuinely devoted to Kayla. We finished today’s mission so quickly—half the credit goes to him,” Landon said.

“So the Kington Gang won’t be coming after us for revenge anymore, right?” Amelia asked.

“No, I don’t think so,” Kayla replied with a smile. “Honestly, Aiden isn’t really ambitious—he’s just a little starved for affection.”

Landon pressed his lips together.

‘That guy’s been after my Honey for way longer than just a day or two,’ he thought sourly.

“That’s great!” Amelia exclaimed.

‘Finally, I can really let my guard down,’ she thought, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. ‘Now that we’ve made it through all the tough times, it’s nothing but smooth sailing ahead!’

That night, the whole family celebrated together.

Tuff, who had played a big part in everything, was invited to stay and join in the fun.

As they drank and laughed, Tuff’s eyes kept drifting to Kayla.

Gloria noticed and leaned in to whisper to Amelia, “Amelia, do you think there’s something going on between them?”

“Yeah,” Amelia replied with a small smile. “Mom, what do you think of him as a potential son-in-law?”

“I’m satisfied! More than satisfied!” Gloria said, her face lighting up.

Nobody wanted Kayla to find a good man again more than she did.

“Kayla’s still dealing with her headaches, so she probably won’t accept him anytime soon,” Amelia said quietly. “But we can start preparing her engagement gifts in advance.”

Gloria’s brow furrowed again as she thought about Kayla’s headaches.

“Mom, we’ll definitely find a way to cure it, so don’t worry,” Amelia reassured her. “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger—Kayla’s luck is still waiting for her out there!”

“Yeah,” Gloria replied.

Gloria forced herself to take a deep breath and tried to put her mind at ease.

‘We can’t spend every day worrying about things that haven’t even happened yet,’ she told herself.

Not far from Kingsley Manor, Giovanna and Daniel stood side by side, looking out into the distance.

After a long silence, Giovanna flashed the scalpel in her hand and said, “I’ve gone over both of their medical records. We can take the chips out, but the odds are fifty-fifty.”

“That’s pretty risky…” Daniel muttered, his palms starting to sweat.

Even someone as decisive as him didn’t know what choice to make now.

Trying to treat them is a huge risk, but if we do nothing, it’s basically just waiting for death.

“Maybe we should try reaching out to Aiden again. The chips came from his family—maybe he can give us some pointers?” Giovanna mused.

Daniel thought she was being unrealistic. “That guy’s genuinely in love with Kayla. If he had a way to fix this, he would’ve told us already.”

“Or maybe he’s just clueless?”

Giovanna let out a soft laugh. “Come on, let’s go to Dreicean.”

A few days later, Landen arrived at Kingsley Manor with a team of bodyguards in tow.

“Mommy…” As soon as he saw Kayla, he rushed straight into her arms, clinging to her and bursting into tears.

He was just a little kid—he didn’t really understand what had happened. All he knew was that something huge had happened at home, and he’d almost lost his mom.

Kayla crouched down and pulled him into her arms. “Landen…”

“Mommy, I was so scared. I thought you’d never come back… sob sob,” Landen whimpered, tears streaming down his face.

“Oh, sweetheart, that will never happen. Mommy loves you so much, Landen!” Kayla said, her voice thick with emotion.

“Grandpa said you didn’t want me anymore…” Landen sniffled.

“How could that ever be true? Mommy loves you the most, Landen,” Kayla said, her heart twisting with pain as she hugged him tightly.

What mother doesn’t love her child? Kayla just wanted to go back to her own mom, but she didn’t have the strength to fight against Yin Shan, so she had no choice but to leave Landen behind for a while.

“Mommy…” Landen whispered, his voice barely audible.

“Come on, let’s meet your grandma and uncle,” Kayla said, gently guiding him over to the rest of the family.

Landen’s eyes widened in surprise. “Gloria is my grandma?”

“That’s right! This is your uncle, Landon, and your aunt, Amelia,” Kayla said, introducing them.

“Landen, welcome home,” Landon and Amelia said, each offering him a gift.

Landon and Amelia had both prepared gifts for him.

Landen was already familiar with everyone, so he wasn’t shy at all. But he couldn’t quite figure it out—if Landon was his uncle here, then who was the uncle back in Dreicean?

“Dreicean is still your home, and your uncle will always be your uncle,” Kayla explained with a gentle smile.

“So now I have even more people who love me?” Landen asked, his eyes shining with excitement.

“That’s right!” Kayla replied with a warm smile.

Gloria scooped Landen up into her arms, hugging him tight and calling him her sweet grandson again and again.

Only now was their family truly whole again.

“Didn’t your uncle come to bring you here himself?” Kayla asked.

Landen said, “Aiden has so much work to do—he’s so busy he doesn’t even have time to sleep.”

“Oh.”

Kayla felt a little uneasy.

It seemed like Aiden had really taken over the Kington Gang.

Old powers die hard—some things just refuse to disappear.

The Kington Gang and the Flying Tiger Sect, one from the underworld and one from the light, will always be on opposite sides.

Aiden wouldn’t give up the power he’d gained, and Landon wouldn’t leave the Flying Tiger Sect.

Even if things are calm now, sooner or later they’ll end up at each other’s throats.

‘Am I really going to have to watch my two brothers become enemies?’ Kayla thought, her heart sinking.

Her head started throbbing again from overthinking, so Kayla had to let it go for now.

‘If only I wasn’t sick. If I could just stay well, maybe Aiden might actually rein himself in for me,’ she thought.

And if that were the case, maybe Landon’s Tiger Gate wouldn’t keep putting on the pressure either…

But sadly, she only had six months left to live…

What Kayla didn’t know was that Landon and Tuff had been searching high and low for a cure for her.

Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, four months had passed.

Amelia’s belly was getting huge—she was just about ready to pop.

During that time, Landon hadn’t left Norava even once.

After everything they’d been through, he was finally able to savor the peace and quiet of a normal life.

Every day, aside from work, Landon just hung out with his Honey, his mom, and his nephew—enjoying the simple moments together.

Finally, the wait was over—the baby was about to be born, and the whole family was over the moon with excitement.

“Honey, don’t be nervous. I’ve got the best doctors lined up for you. I’m right here with you, so don’t worry…” Landon said, his voice full of concern.

“Honey, does it hurt? Don’t worry, I’m here,” Landon said, his voice trembling a little.

Landon was rambling on and on—anyone with eyes could see that the mom-to-be was totally calm, but the new dad was a nervous wreck.

Amelia pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh. “I’m not scared, really.”

“That’s what I like to hear! I’m right here with you,” Landon said, rubbing his hands together anxiously, eager to follow her into the delivery room.

Kayla grabbed his arm. “You can’t go in.”

“Why not? The doctors all said I could be there for the delivery,” Landon protested, wiping his sweaty hands on his pants.

Maybe he’d just had too much water today—his palms just wouldn’t stop sweating.

“We don’t agree!” the family chimed in together.

All three women chimed in at once.

With how nervous Landon was, if he went in, who knows if he’d be the one comforting them or the other way around? If he ended up traumatized, they’d have to help him recover!

Better to just keep him out!
