Chapter 102

โ€œNo.โ€ Amelia quickly stepped back, glaring at him warily. She looked as if facing a great threat.

She thought, โ€˜Landon likes men. If he said he liked me, either he was confused, or he was just trying to deceive me like Zachary in my past life. I canโ€™t fall for it again.โ€™

โ€œPatrickโ€™s still outside. Hurry up and come out,โ€ Amelia said quickly before rushing out.

Landon frowned deeply and thought, โ€˜She doesnโ€™t like me?โ€™

Patrick stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, smoking, filling the office with the strong smell of tobacco. Amelia immediately went outside.

โ€œAll done?โ€ Patrick turned around, seemingly amused as he studied Amelia. He thought, โ€˜There is no trace of the usual portUPA DJEL WAR have. That earlier sceneโ€”is it all a show for me? Landon is still as childish as ever!โ€™

โ€œPatrick, have a seat. My husband will be out soon.โ€ Amelia deliberately referred to Landon as her husband. If she pretended to be a stofer cons maybe Patrick wouldnโ€™t make any more moves on her.

โ€œAlright.โ€ Patrick exhaled a long stream of smoke, doing so with an elegant, carefree air. In the backlight, his tall frame seemed to send shivers down Ameliaโ€™s spine.

โ€˜I have to be careful around Patrick,โ€™ Amelia silently warned herself, even regretting not waiting for Landon to come out with her. When Landon finally opened the door, she rushed over to help him with the wheelchair and asked thoughtfully, โ€œHoney, do you want coffee?โ€

Landon looked up at her, his eyes catching the nervousness in hers, and smiled knowingly, โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ Amelia wheeled him toward the desk and went to make the coffee. As for Patrick, what he drank was none of her business. โ€œI have coffee, thanks,โ€ Patrick called out to Amelia. Amelia rolled her eyes.

โ€œLandon, I thought Iโ€™d be waiting for a while. It turned out it didnโ€™t take long at all for you two to wrap up.โ€ Patrick slowly walked toward Landon, resentment bubbling up inside him.

Of their generation in the Kingsley family, only he and Landon took after John in his good looks, earning Johnโ€™s favoritism from their birth. Back then, Patrick had been Johnโ€™s precious little one.

But then Landon had been born, and from an early age on, he had been a quick learner. Later, when Landonโ€™s father had started the company, and it became more and more successful, Johnโ€™s attention had shifted entirely to Landon.

Despite being Johnโ€™s eldest grandson, Patrick had to live in Landonโ€™s shadow. โ€œYouโ€™re not the man here.โ€ Landon looked at Patrickโ€™s face, which was somewhat similar to his own, with disdain.

The family knew that Patrickโ€™s proudest achievement was spending an entire night with a man, completely breaking him down so that the man never dared show his face again. Patrick laughed loudly, โ€œLandon, would you like to try my man? I can send him your way.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not as messed up as you; I only like women,โ€ Landon snorted coldly. Amelia, holding the coffee at the door, froze. She thought, โ€˜Landon only likes women? Is there no genetic mutation after all?โ€™

โ€œMrs. Kingsley, the coffeeโ€™s ready.โ€ Aaron entered, holding another cup of coffee.

Amelia furrowed her brows, a bit hesitant. She asked, โ€œAaron, whatโ€™s Landonโ€™s sexual orientation?โ€

Aaron choked on his own spit. โ€œMrs. Kingsley, what are you thinking? Mr. Kingsley definitely likes women.โ€

โ€œHas he never liked a man?โ€

โ€œAs Mr. Kingsleyโ€™s assistant, I can swear to God that Mr. Kingsley likes women.โ€

โ€œThen I misunderstood,โ€ Amelia murmured, a sense of inexplicable joy rising within her. She thought, โ€˜He likes women, and he is still pure.โ€™

Aaron was stunned, his face dark with confusion. He thought, โ€˜What? Mrs. Kingsley thought Mr. Kingsley likes men?โ€™

โ€œGive it to me.โ€ Amelia awkwardly took the coffee from Aaron, then walked into the office to give it to Landon.

Landon and Patrick were deep in conversation, the tension between them palpable. The air was thick with hostility, and the neatly stacked documents on the desk were now scattered in disarray. Ameliaโ€™s heart clenched. She thought, โ€˜Did they get into a fight? Is Landon hurt?โ€™

โ€œHoney, hereโ€™s your coffee.โ€ Amelia handed Landon the coffee sheโ€™d prepared, her concerned gaze saying what she couldnโ€™t put into words.

Landon caught the worry in her eyes and smiled, โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Patrickโ€™s not about to kill me in the office.โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s no need to fret,โ€ Patrick chimed in, smoothly picking up the other cup of coffee, โ€œjust here to check on Landon. Weโ€™re cousins, after all, very amicable.โ€

Taking a sip, Patrick narrowed his eyes in satisfaction. โ€œYour coffee is excellent, though it wouldโ€™ve been even better with a little milk. I quite like milk in my coffee.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll remind Aaron to add some for you next time,โ€ Amelia replied with a straight face, pretending to miss the innuendo.

Patrick froze and thought, โ€˜Waitโ€“it isnโ€™t her coffee? Itโ€™s from Aaron, that annoying assistant?โ€™ Suddenly, the coffee in his hand felt impossible to swallow.

Landon chuckled quietly and thought, โ€˜Good job, darling.โ€™ Amelia rolled her eyes at him and thought, โ€˜So childish. Do we really need to gang up on Patrick in such a petty way? And couldnโ€™t he stop calling me darling all the time?โ€™

โ€œIt seems getting coffee made by you is a rare privilege,โ€ Patrick said, recovering quickly with a charming smile. โ€œLandon, youโ€™re a lucky man. One illness, and you ended up with a beautiful wife.โ€

Patrickโ€™s dramatic flair left Amelia speechless with reluctant admiration. This man was born to put on a show. โ€œShe only needs to take care of me,โ€ Landon said coolly. โ€œIf youโ€™re feeling envious, Patrick, you should give up your wild ways and settle down.โ€

โ€œI already have.โ€ Patrickโ€™s gaze lingered on Amelia for a moment, his tone carrying a deeper meaning. โ€œI only like women now.โ€

โ€œWell, that will certainly please your mother. At least one of her sons finally turned out normal,โ€ Amelia replied with a faint smile.

Patrick thought, โ€˜So sheโ€™s had me pegged as abnormal this whole time? No wonder sheโ€™s so indifferent to me, no matter how much I try to be friendly. Who on earth has been feeding her these lies?โ€™

Patrick felt a surge of frustration. If looks could kill, half the family wouldโ€™ve been wiped out by nowโ€“everyone whoโ€™d gossiped about him behind his back. His notorious reputation wasnโ€™t doing him any favors.

โ€œPatrick, weโ€™ve got work to do, so we wonโ€™t keep you.โ€ Landonโ€™s tone was polite but firm.

โ€œWell then, see you at Grandmotherโ€™s birthday party.โ€ Patrick cast one last lingering look at Amelia before walking out, clearly reluctant to leave. The office door clicked shut, and the moment it did, Landon clutched his chest and started coughing violently.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€ Amelia was instantly alarmed, fumbling for her phone with trembling hands.

โ€œIโ€™m fine.โ€ Landon grabbed her hand to reassure her, but his labored breathing and pale complexion told a different story.

โ€œYou donโ€™t look fine. Did he hurt you? Where are you injured? Let me see.โ€ Amelia was on the verge of tears, her voice rising in panic.

โ€œIt was just a brief exchange. Really, Iโ€™m fine,โ€ Landon said with a faint smile.

Tears rolled down Ameliaโ€™s cheeks. โ€œIโ€™m sorry. I shouldnโ€™t have left you alone in the office.โ€

โ€œI did it on purpose,โ€ Landon said, wiping away her tears softly with a smile. โ€œHeโ€™s worse off than I am.โ€

โ€œYou meanโ€ฆโ€

โ€œHe came today to test how much Iโ€™ve recovered. So, of course, I let him.โ€
