Chapter 103

The doctor said, โ€œMr. Kingsley, youโ€™ve fractured two ribs. You need to rest and avoid heavy exertion.โ€ Patrick stared at the X-ray, his expression as dark as a storm cloud. He looked terrifying.

He thought, โ€˜That cripple, Landon, has actually managed to fracture two of my ribs with a single strike. And yet, no matter how much strength I put into my attacks, I havenโ€™t been able to hurt Landon at all. Itโ€™s infuriating.

โ€˜Am I just destined always to be inferior to Landon? In business and martial artsโ€“Landon outmatches me in every way. Why? Why am I always a step behind Landon?โ€™

Even after returning home, Patrick still couldnโ€™t accept it. โ€œHow did it go?โ€ Henry asked, seeing the dark look on Patrickโ€™s face.

โ€œHis strength is back,โ€ Patrick replied bitterly, his handsome face twisted in anger.

โ€œWhat? Oh no. If heโ€™s fully recovered, weโ€™re finished,โ€ Henry sighed heavily. โ€œHeโ€™s been bedridden for months, and now heโ€™s bouncing back? We are doomed.โ€

โ€œDad, if you donโ€™t have anything helpful to say, just keep quiet.โ€ Patrick shot him a cold glare, and Henry immediately shut his mouth, clearly intimidated by Patrick.

โ€œRight,โ€ Cynthia said, glaring at Henry while handing Patrick a glass of water. โ€œWeโ€™re all alive and well. Weโ€™re not finished. Donโ€™t lose hope, Patrick. Heโ€™s still not back on his feet, is he? Thereโ€™s plenty of opportunities yet.โ€

โ€œI wonโ€™t give him the chance to get back on his feet.โ€ Patrickโ€™s lips curled into a cold smirk, his eyes glinting with deadly intent. In the Kingsley family, there was only room for one of themโ€“him or Landon.

โ€œPatrick, our future depends on you,โ€ Cynthia said. โ€œAnd your brother, I visited him in prison yesterday. Heโ€™s lost so much weight.โ€ It pained her to think of her youngest son in prison.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Mom. Iโ€™ll take care of Landon. Once heโ€™s gone, Iโ€™ll bring my brother home,โ€ Patrick said with a smirk.

Patrick had already made up his mind. He thought, โ€˜Tomorrow is Grandmotherโ€™s birthday party. Iโ€™ll make sure to let Landon leave completely defeated.โ€™

Back at the company, Landonโ€™s return had boosted morale overnight. The stock price, which had been sluggish for months during his illness, skyrocketed the moment he showed up.

โ€œYour influence is incredible,โ€ Amelia admitted, genuinely impressed. Sheโ€™d managed to stabilize the company during the month she took charge, but she hadnโ€™t been able to reverse the downturn.

Landon, however, had barely shown his face, and the stock price immediately rebounded. It was a testament to his power in the business world. Suddenly, Amelia regretted not buying some Kingsley Group stock in advance. If she had, sheโ€™d be making a fortune right now.

The more she thought about it, the more she regretted it, her face scrunching up like a crumpled piece of paper. Landon noticed and couldnโ€™t help but laugh, โ€œAdmiration so intense itโ€™s twisting your features?โ€

โ€œNot quite,โ€ Amelia sighed. โ€œI just regret not buying your stock earlier.โ€ Landon choked on his coffee, coughing violently.

โ€œAre you okay?โ€ Amelia immediately leaned over, patting his chest to help him breathe. โ€œYouโ€™re not feeling unwell again, are you? Wesleyโ€™s taking forever to come byโ€ฆโ€

โ€œYouโ€™re already a rich woman. Isnโ€™t that enough?โ€ Landon teased, catching her hand in his.

โ€œWho ever complains about having too much money?โ€ Amelia pouted.

โ€œHow much allowance did Walter give you each month?โ€ Landon asked quietly.

Fifteen thousand dollars, Amelia said, her tone tinged with bitterness.

She had always thought she and Sandra received the same monthly allowance. Sandra, however, spent hers lavishly on shopping sprees, even claiming some of her designer purchases were high-end replicas.

Amelia had been so protective of Sandra that sheโ€™d even saved up her own money to buy Sandra real designer bags. It wasnโ€™t until later that Amelia had found out Sandra had actually been receiving 70 thousand dollars a month.

โ€œWas it enough?โ€ Landon asked, his grip tightening around her hand. The socialites in Noravaโ€™s high society often had bags that cost tens of thousands of dollars.

โ€œIt was fine. I never wanted much,โ€ Amelia replied, pulling out her phone. โ€œLook, I even managed to save a little.โ€ The amountโ€“a mere tens of thousands of dollarsโ€“was nothing to Landon.

โ€œWhat about the money I gave you?โ€ he asked.

โ€œOh, the 100 million dollars? I opened a separate account for that, and my salary goes into another one.โ€

โ€œWhy bother with all the separate accounts? Itโ€™s easier to manage if you keep everything in one.โ€

โ€œWell, I was planning to return the 100 million dollars to you.โ€

โ€œSilly girl.โ€ Landon couldnโ€™t help but laugh. He thought, โ€˜Amelia doesnโ€™t care about money or status. The only thing sheโ€™d ever truly want is Debraโ€™s keepsake. What a silly girl!โ€™

โ€œIโ€™m not silly,โ€ Amelia muttered, embarrassed by his teasing laugh as she lowered her gaze. โ€œI just thought it was your money.โ€

โ€œAnd now?โ€

โ€œNow? Itโ€™s all mine.โ€

Landon burst into hearty laughter, the sound resonating through the office. The secretaries at the desk outside exchanged stunned glances. If they werenโ€™t collectively startled, they mightโ€™ve suspected they were hearing things. They thought, โ€˜Mrs. Kingsley is laughing so loudly?โ€™

โ€œThereโ€™s nothing strange about it,โ€ Aaron commented casually, sipping his coffee. โ€œMrs. Kingsley has that effect on him.โ€ He leaned back with a knowing smile. โ€œWho knows? Maybe one day, weโ€™ll even see their baby running around the office.โ€

Before Aaron could elaborate further, Wesley came rushing in, slightly out of breath. โ€œAaron, whatโ€™s going on with Landon? I was only away for a short time, and this happens? How have you been looking after him?โ€

Aaron looked at him, perplexed. โ€œNothingโ€™s wrong.โ€

โ€œAmelia called and told me to come immediatelyโ€ฆโ€ Wesley trailed off as the sound of Landonโ€™s deep, hearty laugh reached his ears. There was no way someone sounding that cheerful was in trouble.

โ€œGo in and see for yourself,โ€ Aaron suggested.

Wesley hesitated, pointing nervously at the office door. โ€œWhat are they doing in there?โ€

Aaron shrugged nonchalantly. โ€œBeats me. I havenโ€™t gone in for a while.โ€

Wesley hesitated even more. โ€œWhat ifโ€ฆI walk in on something I shouldnโ€™t?โ€ If he stumbled upon something private, Landon would have a real go at him.

Aaron chuckled lightly, โ€œIf Mrs. Kingsley gets upset, youโ€™ll be in deeper trouble.โ€

That was all Wesley needed to hear. He braced himself and knocked on the door. โ€œLandon? Amelia? Iโ€™m here.โ€

Amelia replied, โ€œCome in.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ Letting out a sigh of relief, Wesley opened the door cautiously. Inside, he found Landon lounging in his wheelchair, looking remarkably relaxed. A genuine smile softened his typically sharp features, and his hands rested lightly across his abdomen.

Amelia, sitting beside him, was flushed pink, a mix of bashfulness and playful annoyance written all over her face. The sight hit Wesley like a ton of bricksโ€”he felt like he was drowning in their affection.

โ€œWesley, did you bring needles?โ€ Amelia asked, her tone laced with irritation.

โ€œHuh?โ€ Wesley was confused.

โ€œHe had a fight with Patrick today. You should give him a few extra needles to help him recover,โ€ Amelia said.

Wesleyโ€™s face changed immediately, and he rushed forward, already reaching for Landonโ€™s shirt. โ€œDonโ€™tโ€ฆโ€ Before Landon could finish protesting, his shirt was torn open, revealing his chest, which was covered in dark bruises.

โ€œGood heavens, look at this,โ€ Amelia gasped, her hands flying to her mouth as concern flashed across her face. Her heart twisted at the sight.

Landon pressed his fingers to his temple, sighing, โ€œItโ€™s nothing, really. Just a surface injury.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re not a doctor,โ€ Amelia snapped, her voice rising. โ€œNo wonder youโ€™ve been coughingโ€“this must be internal damage.โ€

โ€œAmelia, itโ€™s really not a big deal,โ€ Wesley said, his expression relaxed after a quick examination. โ€œHeโ€™s fine. No need to panic.โ€

Ameliaโ€™s suspicious eyes darted between the two men. โ€œDo you take me for a fool? Iโ€™m not blind. Stop teaming up to lie to me.โ€

Wesley laughed and shook his head, โ€œIโ€™m serious. Thereโ€™s no major issue. Landonโ€™s strength is backโ€“normal people canโ€™t hurt him now.โ€ He handed Amelia a bottle of spray. โ€œUse this three times a day. Heโ€™ll be fine in three days.โ€

Amelia glanced at the dark marks on Landonโ€™s chest, still unconvinced. โ€œShouldnโ€™t he get an X-ray, just to be sure?โ€
