Chapter 114
On the way home, Amelia clung to the Amber Vase. To her, it wasnโt just something worth millions of dollarsโit was like a doll her mother had sewn for her. Holding the vase was like holding her motherโs love, offering her lonely heart much-needed comfort. It wasnโt until she stepped through the door that she carefully set it down on the table.
The years had softened the amber, making it smooth and warm. The phoenix carved into the vase seemed to come alive. Even more impressive was how well it had been preservedโaside from a crack at the mouth of the vase, there were no other flaws. Amelia could look at it all day without getting tired of it.
Landon joked, โYou might as well put it on display.โ
โGood idea,โ Amelia surprisingly agreed.
โBetter put it away. Iโm afraid others will break it,โ Landon chuckled, resting his chin in his hand.
โTrue.โ Amelia nodded, then took out the pendant as well. โIโm not wearing this anymore either. I donโt want to lose it again.โ
Amelia wondered where she should keep it. She looked around. There was no place to hide it. Finally, she looked at Landonโs safe.
Landon, catching on, asked, โWant to put it in there? You know the code.โ
โNo, Iโm getting my own safe,โ Amelia replied.
Landon was speechless.
Amelia immediately went online and bought a safe. She thought, โHaving my own safe would give me peace of mind, with easy access whenever I needed it. If I keep them in Landonโs safe, Iโll have to ask for them back during a divorce later. How troublesome!โ
Landon stared at Amelia in disbelief, thinking, โSheโs definitely thinking about divorce again. Donโt worry, I wonโt allow it.โ
Amelia was so startled that she dropped her phone. She thought, โHe doesnโt want a divorce?โ
Landon bent down, reached out, and picked up Ameliaโs phone for her. He asked, โWhatโs wrong?โ
โNโNothing.โ Ameliaโs heart was racing, and she had completely forgotten what she was about to do. She thought, โHe doesnโt want a divorce. Could it be that he really fell in love with me? Just how much does he like me?โ
โHoney, do you still want your salary for today?โ Landon asked.
โUh, no. I wonโt take a salary from now on,โ Amelia replied, blinking her eyes guiltily. After all, Landon had spent 15 million dollars on her. If she kept fussing about her salary, it would seem ungrateful.
โAlright.โ Landon wasnโt being modest either. โMany antique deals are illegal, and Carlo has some good stuff, but itโs likely also shady. Donโt contact him yourself. Iโll handle it.โ
Amelia nodded. โGot it, Iโll listen to you.โ
โGood girl.โ Landon affectionately patted Ameliaโs head.
Amelia frowned and pushed Landonโs hand away, โI told you not to touch my head. You make it feel like youโre petting a dog.โ
โThen where should I touch?โ Landon teased Amelia on purpose.
Amelia thought, โWhy is he going off track like this?โ
โYou are not touching anywhere.โ Amelia blushed deeply, huffing as she stomped to the balcony, continuing to browse for the safe.
Landon laughed, shaking his head. He thought, โShe really is too easy to tease, such an innocent woman.โ
In the afternoon, the mall delivered the safe.
Amelia didnโt have her own room, so she was troubled about where to put it.
โPut it there.โ Landon simply directed the workers to place the new safe next to his.
โSure, Mr. Kingsley,โ the workers replied.
The two safes sat side by side, harmonizing with the roomโs layout.
But something felt off to Amelia. โHow about you give me your room for it?โ she boldly suggested.
โYouโve got an Amber Vase and a pendant. Do you really need a whole room for them?โ Landon teased.
Amelia blushed and replied, โI just want a room thatโs mine.โ
โIsnโt this place yours? Even Iโm yours.โ Landon tried not to smile, but the amusement in his eyes was impossible to hide. He thought, โSilly woman, they are a couple protected by law. Everything he has now, she has a share.โ
Amelia cleared her throat. โLandon, stop joking around. I might take you seriously,โ she pouted, her face flushed, her heart in turmoil.
Amelia kept telling herself that menโs words are deceitful. Zachary had been the biggest lesson. But with Landonโs half-serious, half-joking remarks, her defenses slowly crumbled. She was afraid that one day, when her guard finally collapsed, Landon would tell her, โWeโre just business partners. Letโs divorce.โ
โIโm not joking.โ Landon raised an eyebrow, feeling frustrated. He thought, โShe thinks my sincerity is a joke? Iโve never joked around with a woman like this. I barely even smiled. Thatโs why the rumors about me being โcold, abstinent, decisive, ruthless, and heartlessโ spread.โ
โAnyway,โ Amelia said, โI just want to figure out the truth about my momโs background and death. Iโm not thinking about anything else.โ
Amelia decided on the date of her time travel. That was her lucky day.
After safely storing the Amber Vase and pendant, Amelia breathed a sigh of relief and collapsed onto her small bed, the fragrance of the lavender pillow drifting through the cotton sheets, calming her mind.
After a moment, Amelia turned to Landon and asked, โYou heard what Patrick said today, right?โ
โYeah,โ Landon replied.
Amelia said, โHe knows youโre looking for Kayla. Arenโt you worried heโll find her first and use her to threaten you?โ
โIf he can find Kayla, Iโll give him half my shares.โ Landonโs eyes darkened with a deep, unspeakable pain. His life had been saved by Kayla. If she could come back, he would pay any price.
โHaving siblings is really nice. You can always protect each other,โ Amelia sighed, gazing at the ceiling as she murmured. โI wish I had an older brother.โ
When Patrick woke up again, he found himself with Camila. They were both naked, the sheets in a crumpled mess, a clear sign of intense sex.
Patrick felt pain radiating from his lower body and nearly lost his mind. โCamila, are you out of your mind? Iโm scalded by hot coffee, and youโre still at it?โ
โItโs not a big deal. Iโve already applied some medicine,โ Camila said, pressing her not-so-perfect body against Patrick again.
Patrick pushed Camila away in disgust. โLook at your figure. You were flat to begin with, and after having kids, youโve got a spare tire.โ
โThat was for you, to have your kids,โ Camila replied, her eyes showing a flicker of hurt, but her attitude remained defiant.
Patrick ran his hands through his hair in frustration. Clearly, he was helpless against Camila. One wrong step led to another. He never shouldโve gotten involved with her. After the thrill came nothing but mess.
โHow did you get me out of there?โ Patrick asked.
โI was just having coffee there and ran into Landon,โ Camila lied, her face unchanged.
Patrick believed it, gritting his teeth. โGood one, Amelia. She actually tricked me.โ
โI suggest you stop going against Landon. Letโs just live our lives in peace. Kingsley Group wonโt cut your dividends,โ Camila said.
โWhat do you know?โ Patrick snapped, shoving Camila aside as he angrily got out of bed and started dressing.
Patrick needed to find Jonas and ask how Amelia took him down without realizing it.
It wasnโt clear whether it was Ameliaโs anesthetic or if Camila had been too rough, but by the time Patrick left, his legs were shaking, and he could barely stand straight.
