Chapter 114

On the way home, Amelia clung to the Amber Vase. To her, it wasnโ€™t just something worth millions of dollarsโ€”it was like a doll her mother had sewn for her. Holding the vase was like holding her motherโ€™s love, offering her lonely heart much-needed comfort. It wasnโ€™t until she stepped through the door that she carefully set it down on the table.

The years had softened the amber, making it smooth and warm. The phoenix carved into the vase seemed to come alive. Even more impressive was how well it had been preservedโ€”aside from a crack at the mouth of the vase, there were no other flaws. Amelia could look at it all day without getting tired of it.

Landon joked, โ€œYou might as well put it on display.โ€

โ€œGood idea,โ€ Amelia surprisingly agreed.

โ€œBetter put it away. Iโ€™m afraid others will break it,โ€ Landon chuckled, resting his chin in his hand.

โ€œTrue.โ€ Amelia nodded, then took out the pendant as well. โ€œIโ€™m not wearing this anymore either. I donโ€™t want to lose it again.โ€

Amelia wondered where she should keep it. She looked around. There was no place to hide it. Finally, she looked at Landonโ€™s safe.

Landon, catching on, asked, โ€œWant to put it in there? You know the code.โ€

โ€œNo, Iโ€™m getting my own safe,โ€ Amelia replied.

Landon was speechless.

Amelia immediately went online and bought a safe. She thought, โ€˜Having my own safe would give me peace of mind, with easy access whenever I needed it. If I keep them in Landonโ€™s safe, Iโ€™ll have to ask for them back during a divorce later. How troublesome!โ€™

Landon stared at Amelia in disbelief, thinking, โ€˜Sheโ€™s definitely thinking about divorce again. Donโ€™t worry, I wonโ€™t allow it.โ€™

Amelia was so startled that she dropped her phone. She thought, โ€˜He doesnโ€™t want a divorce?โ€™

Landon bent down, reached out, and picked up Ameliaโ€™s phone for her. He asked, โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€

โ€œNโ€“Nothing.โ€ Ameliaโ€™s heart was racing, and she had completely forgotten what she was about to do. She thought, โ€˜He doesnโ€™t want a divorce. Could it be that he really fell in love with me? Just how much does he like me?โ€™

โ€œHoney, do you still want your salary for today?โ€ Landon asked.

โ€œUh, no. I wonโ€™t take a salary from now on,โ€ Amelia replied, blinking her eyes guiltily. After all, Landon had spent 15 million dollars on her. If she kept fussing about her salary, it would seem ungrateful.

โ€œAlright.โ€ Landon wasnโ€™t being modest either. โ€œMany antique deals are illegal, and Carlo has some good stuff, but itโ€™s likely also shady. Donโ€™t contact him yourself. Iโ€™ll handle it.โ€

Amelia nodded. โ€œGot it, Iโ€™ll listen to you.โ€

โ€œGood girl.โ€ Landon affectionately patted Ameliaโ€™s head.

Amelia frowned and pushed Landonโ€™s hand away, โ€œI told you not to touch my head. You make it feel like youโ€™re petting a dog.โ€

โ€œThen where should I touch?โ€ Landon teased Amelia on purpose.

Amelia thought, โ€˜Why is he going off track like this?โ€™

โ€œYou are not touching anywhere.โ€ Amelia blushed deeply, huffing as she stomped to the balcony, continuing to browse for the safe.

Landon laughed, shaking his head. He thought, โ€˜She really is too easy to tease, such an innocent woman.โ€™

In the afternoon, the mall delivered the safe.

Amelia didnโ€™t have her own room, so she was troubled about where to put it.

โ€œPut it there.โ€ Landon simply directed the workers to place the new safe next to his.

โ€œSure, Mr. Kingsley,โ€ the workers replied.

The two safes sat side by side, harmonizing with the roomโ€™s layout.

But something felt off to Amelia. โ€œHow about you give me your room for it?โ€ she boldly suggested.

โ€œYouโ€™ve got an Amber Vase and a pendant. Do you really need a whole room for them?โ€ Landon teased.

Amelia blushed and replied, โ€œI just want a room thatโ€™s mine.โ€

โ€œIsnโ€™t this place yours? Even Iโ€™m yours.โ€ Landon tried not to smile, but the amusement in his eyes was impossible to hide. He thought, โ€˜Silly woman, they are a couple protected by law. Everything he has now, she has a share.โ€™

Amelia cleared her throat. โ€œLandon, stop joking around. I might take you seriously,โ€ she pouted, her face flushed, her heart in turmoil.

Amelia kept telling herself that menโ€™s words are deceitful. Zachary had been the biggest lesson. But with Landonโ€™s half-serious, half-joking remarks, her defenses slowly crumbled. She was afraid that one day, when her guard finally collapsed, Landon would tell her, โ€œWeโ€™re just business partners. Letโ€™s divorce.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not joking.โ€ Landon raised an eyebrow, feeling frustrated. He thought, โ€˜She thinks my sincerity is a joke? Iโ€™ve never joked around with a woman like this. I barely even smiled. Thatโ€™s why the rumors about me being โ€œcold, abstinent, decisive, ruthless, and heartlessโ€ spread.โ€™

โ€œAnyway,โ€ Amelia said, โ€œI just want to figure out the truth about my momโ€™s background and death. Iโ€™m not thinking about anything else.โ€

Amelia decided on the date of her time travel. That was her lucky day.

After safely storing the Amber Vase and pendant, Amelia breathed a sigh of relief and collapsed onto her small bed, the fragrance of the lavender pillow drifting through the cotton sheets, calming her mind.

After a moment, Amelia turned to Landon and asked, โ€œYou heard what Patrick said today, right?โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ Landon replied.

Amelia said, โ€œHe knows youโ€™re looking for Kayla. Arenโ€™t you worried heโ€™ll find her first and use her to threaten you?โ€

โ€œIf he can find Kayla, Iโ€™ll give him half my shares.โ€ Landonโ€™s eyes darkened with a deep, unspeakable pain. His life had been saved by Kayla. If she could come back, he would pay any price.

โ€œHaving siblings is really nice. You can always protect each other,โ€ Amelia sighed, gazing at the ceiling as she murmured. โ€œI wish I had an older brother.โ€

When Patrick woke up again, he found himself with Camila. They were both naked, the sheets in a crumpled mess, a clear sign of intense sex.

Patrick felt pain radiating from his lower body and nearly lost his mind. โ€œCamila, are you out of your mind? Iโ€™m scalded by hot coffee, and youโ€™re still at it?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not a big deal. Iโ€™ve already applied some medicine,โ€ Camila said, pressing her not-so-perfect body against Patrick again.

Patrick pushed Camila away in disgust. โ€œLook at your figure. You were flat to begin with, and after having kids, youโ€™ve got a spare tire.โ€

โ€œThat was for you, to have your kids,โ€ Camila replied, her eyes showing a flicker of hurt, but her attitude remained defiant.

Patrick ran his hands through his hair in frustration. Clearly, he was helpless against Camila. One wrong step led to another. He never shouldโ€™ve gotten involved with her. After the thrill came nothing but mess.

โ€œHow did you get me out of there?โ€ Patrick asked.

โ€œI was just having coffee there and ran into Landon,โ€ Camila lied, her face unchanged.

Patrick believed it, gritting his teeth. โ€œGood one, Amelia. She actually tricked me.โ€

โ€œI suggest you stop going against Landon. Letโ€™s just live our lives in peace. Kingsley Group wonโ€™t cut your dividends,โ€ Camila said.

โ€œWhat do you know?โ€ Patrick snapped, shoving Camila aside as he angrily got out of bed and started dressing.

Patrick needed to find Jonas and ask how Amelia took him down without realizing it.

It wasnโ€™t clear whether it was Ameliaโ€™s anesthetic or if Camila had been too rough, but by the time Patrick left, his legs were shaking, and he could barely stand straight.
