Listen to this chapter:

โ€œAiden, the cakes here in Norava are really good. You should try some,โ€ Paloma called out to Aiden.

But as Aiden felt nervous, no matter how good the cakes were, they tasted like chewing wax in his mouth. But since Paloma said so, he couldnโ€™t bring himself to contradict her.

Finally, after another hour at the Kingsley familyโ€™s place, he got to escape. During that time, Gloria chatted enthusiastically with Paloma, but Paloma acted indifferent the whole time.

โ€˜Iโ€™m so disappointed,โ€™ thought Amelia, while Aiden felt a wave of relief wash over him.

Once they were in the car, Aiden scolded Landen, โ€œWhy did you come all the way to Norava?โ€

โ€œCome on, Little Landen is still sick. Give him a break,โ€ Paloma said.

Aiden couldnโ€™t help but feel bad for himโ€“after all, Landen was his brotherโ€™s only child.

โ€œWell, never mind then. Iโ€™ll get you both back right away,โ€ Aiden said.

โ€œAiden, arenโ€™t you coming back with us?โ€ Paloma asked.

โ€œIโ€™ve still got a project going on in Norava,โ€ Aiden said hesitantly. He hadnโ€™t even managed to win over Amelia yetโ€“how could he just leave now?

Paloma chuckled. โ€œI think you just canโ€™t let go of Ms. Edwards. But with the way things are between you two, do you think thereโ€™s any hope of breaking the ice?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not about her,โ€ Aiden explained awkwardly. โ€œThis project is huge. Iโ€™ve already invested over three billion dollars just in the land.โ€

โ€œJust three billion dollars! Thatโ€™s nothing for the Kyle family. Aiden, you donโ€™t have to explain yourself. Youโ€™re an adult nowโ€“youโ€™re free to make your own choices,โ€ Paloma said.

โ€œPalomaโ€ฆโ€ Aiden murmured.

โ€œBut just one thingโ€“donโ€™t use love as an excuse to hurt innocent people,โ€ Paloma added, her tone serious.

Aiden gave a wry smile. โ€œShe spent ten years getting the poison out of my system. Wasnโ€™t that just her way of keeping her guard up against me?โ€

โ€œAs long as you understand. Youโ€™re the only heir to the Kington Gang. The Kyle family canโ€™t afford to lose you,โ€ Paloma reminded him.

It was rare to see Paloma this serious that Aiden felt a rare warmth inside. Even though his brother was gone, this sister-in-law cared for him like a mother. Maybe that was the only bit of good luck in his otherwise miserable life.

โ€œUncle, I donโ€™t want to go back,โ€ Landen shouted.

But Aiden frowned and said, โ€œStop messing around!โ€

โ€œI just donโ€™t want to go back. I like it here. I like Grandma Gloria,โ€ Landen said, his voice trembling. He rarely threw a fit, but when he did, he could be really stubborn.

At this, Aiden felt distressed, rubbing his temples as he said, โ€œYour mom is going back home. Donโ€™t you want to be with her?โ€

โ€œWhy canโ€™t Mom stay here and play with me in Norava?โ€ Landen shot back.

โ€˜Seriously, what am I even supposed to say to this?โ€™ Aiden thought, completely at a loss for words.

โ€œMom doesnโ€™t have a job anyway, so it doesnโ€™t matter where we play. I donโ€™t careโ€“I want Mom to stay here and play with me in Norava," Landen insisted. He started bawling and throwing a fit, refusing to go home no matter what.

At this scene, Paloma stroked her forehead and said, โ€œAiden, Iโ€™ll just stay a few more days then.โ€

โ€œPaloma, does it hurt a lot?โ€ Aiden asked, suddenly alarmed.

โ€œJust a bit,โ€ Paloma replied.

โ€œAlright, Landen, stop fussing. Iโ€™ll say yes, okay?โ€ Aiden compromised.

โ€œOkay,โ€ Landen nodded. He stopped crying in an instant.

Paloma let out a sigh of relief. โ€œThatโ€™s much better. My illness really canโ€™t handle all this fuss.โ€

โ€œYou still need to take it easy, Paloma,โ€ Aiden said, also letting out a breath of relief.

โ€œCould you arrange a quiet villa for me?โ€ Paloma asked.

โ€œOf course!โ€ Aiden said in a pretentious but teasing tone.

Thus, Paloma settled down in Norava with no trouble at all.

Meanwhile, at the Kingsley familyโ€™s place, as soon as Landen left, the whole house fell into a lonely, lifeless silence.

โ€œWhy does Paloma always wear a mask? She looks like she must be a real beauty!โ€ Gloria sighed wistfully.

โ€œMom, do you like her?โ€ Amelia asked.

โ€œI do,โ€ Gloria nodded, pausing for a moment, unsure if she should say what was really on her mind. Paloma reminded her so much of the daughter sheโ€™d lost all those years ago.

โ€˜Forget it, better not to mention it. The Kingsley family was already a messโ€“no need to trouble Amelia with the past right now,โ€™ Gloria thought to herself.

โ€œMom, I like her too. If fate allows, weโ€™ll meet her again,โ€ Amelia said, her words hinting at something more.

โ€˜Once Landon finishes his undercover mission, he will return with Kayla. Then they could finally be reunited as a family,โ€™ Amelia thought.

Her eyes sparkled with hope as she thought this way.

โ€œEdith, after watching everything today, Iโ€™m pretty sure it wasnโ€™t Aiden who brought Landen to Norava,โ€ Amelia lowered her voice and said, once Gloria went off to take care of something else.

Chapter 220

โ€œThen who else could it be?โ€ Edith asked, startled.

โ€œMaybe it was Landon. Or maybe Paloma herself,โ€ Amelia said, her gaze drifting down to the watch on Edithโ€™s wrist. โ€œWhoever it was, I have a feeling thereโ€™s a secret hidden in that watch.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Edith went pale with fright and hurriedly took off the watch.

Amelia had Aaron take the watch to get it checked out. Sure enough, there was a bug hidden inside, and it was connected to a Lunova SIM card.

โ€œOh my god, there really was something fishy about itโ€ฆโ€ Edithโ€™s heart was pounding like a drum.

โ€œMrs. Kingsley, Mr. Landon doesnโ€™t have a Lunova SIM card,โ€ Aaron said, his expression grim.

โ€œCan you check?โ€ Amelia asked.

โ€œJust ask Tuff,โ€ Aaron replied.

Aaron called Tuff, and it didnโ€™t take long to get the results: the SIM card had only been used to contact Dr. Shawn.

โ€œDr. Shawn?โ€ Ameliaโ€™s heart skipped a beat.

โ€˜Why would Dr. Shawn and Paloma want to spy on Edithโ€™s life? Could it be that Paloma has figured out the truth about who she really is?โ€™ she wondered.

Amelia put the bug back into the watch and handed it to Gloria. โ€œMom, Edith said this watch suits you better, so she wanted me to pass it on to you.โ€

โ€œReally? Then please thank her for me,โ€ Gloria said, happily accepting the watch. This was Palomaโ€™s watchโ€“far more precious than any of the million-dollar timepieces in her collection. For some reason, she couldnโ€™t help but feel a special fondness for that child.

After that, Aiden kept a close eye on Paloma every day and noticed that once she moved into the villa, she went right back to her old habits from the estateโ€“keeping to herself, never stepping outside or paying attention to anything beyond her walls. He felt relieved, thinking maybe she simply enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of Norava.

What he didnโ€™t know was that every day, Paloma would hide under her covers, secretly eavesdropping on everything Gloria did around the house through the bug in the watch.

Gloria would get up at six every morning to do some light exercise. After that, sheโ€™d eat her meals alone, making small talk with the servants now and then. She had all three meals by herself, just waiting for Amelia to get off work and come home. Sometimes, sheโ€™d join other society ladies for a bit of shopping, but honestly, she never looked all that interested.

Every morning and evening, she would pray: โ€œI hope my son Landon will come back to us soon. And I hope my daughter Kayla can return to me safe and soundโ€ฆ If she really canโ€™t come back, I just hope sheโ€™s out there, living her life.โ€

She had never truly forgotten her daughter; it was justโ€ฆ.

Hearing all that, Paloma secretly touched her injured face, thinking to herself, โ€˜Iโ€™m sorryโ€ฆ I forgot about youโ€ฆโ€™

Chapter 220

After several days, Tuff finally managed to pinpoint the bugโ€™s terminal. โ€œMrs. Kyle is right here in Norava!โ€

โ€œNoravaโ€ฆโ€ Amelia felt her heart tighten.

โ€˜Itโ€™s Paloma! It has to be her!โ€™ Amelia thought to herself. After all, Dr. Shawn was all the way over in Dreicean.

โ€œTuff, do you think Paloma might have remembered something?โ€ Amelia asked, her voice trembling.

โ€œI donโ€™t know,โ€ Tuff replied. โ€œIโ€™ll head to Norava and check it out myself.โ€

โ€œJust donโ€™t alert her. Aiden doesnโ€™t want Paloma to realize her true family ties,โ€ Amelia warned.

โ€œUnderstood,โ€ Tuff promised.
