Chapter 224

The Montgomery familyโ€™s lavish coffee made Amelia very pleasant. There were also cherries, lemon juice, and little yogurt cakes. All were her favorites.

โ€˜Even after losing his memory, Landon still remembered what I liked!โ€™ Amelia realized.

โ€˜But these were all things Monica didnโ€™t likeโ€ฆโ€™ she couldnโ€™t help but notice.

โ€œHoney, how do you like todayโ€™s coffee?โ€ Monica asked, so jealous it almost hurt, as she watched Amelia enjoying herself.

โ€œIs there a problem?โ€ Landon asked gently.

โ€œNo,โ€ Monica sighed, taking a reluctant sip of her coffee.

โ€˜He may have lost his memory, but so many of his instincts are just muscle memory,โ€™ Amelia thought to herself.

Monica really shouldnโ€™t have let Landon prepare the coffee.

Just then, Paloma chimed in, โ€œMonica, your chefโ€™s yogurt cakes are really something else.โ€

โ€œIf you like them, Paloma, have some more,โ€ Monica said with a forced smile.

โ€œMm,โ€ Paloma nodded.

Her especially graceful way of eating caught Landonโ€™s attention.

โ€˜Thereโ€™s something refined about her. She looks so familiarโ€ฆโ€™ he thought.

Seeing that, a spark of delight flashed in Ameliaโ€™s eyes.

โ€˜Duh, of course she looks familiar! Thatโ€™s Kayla, the sister youโ€™ve been searching for all these years!โ€™ Amelia thought.

โ€˜Why is she hiding behind a mask? Is it because sheโ€™s not good-looking?โ€™ Landon wondered.

โ€˜No way! With genes like yours, Kayla has to be a total knockout!โ€™ Amelia thought to herself.

Amelia had never been able to hide her feelings around Landon, and right now, she was so happy she couldnโ€™t help but break into a smile.

Landon couldnโ€™t help but glance at Amelia a couple more times, frowning. โ€˜This woman is really odd. Have I met her before?โ€™ he wondered.

โ€œBabe, your eyes should only be on me,โ€ Monica pouted, grabbing Landonโ€™s chin and turning his head back to face her.

She was utterly spoiled, totally willful, and always had to be the center of attention.

โ€œOkay.โ€ Landon gave Monica a doting smile.

Seeing this, Amelia felt like sheโ€™d just been stabbed in the heartโ€“the pain was so sharp, she could barely breathe.

โ€˜Did losing his memory make him fall for Monica?โ€™ Amelia thought to herself.

โ€œBabe, why donโ€™t you let us girls have our chat? Go take a break and donโ€™t butt in,โ€ Monica said in a sugary-sweet voice.

Then Landon stood up and walked away.

As he walked away, Amelia gazed longingly at his retreating figure, wishing he could stay just a little longer.

After all, chances for her to see him were so, so rareโ€ฆ

If it hadnโ€™t been for Paloma today, she wouldnโ€™t have gotten to see him at all!

โ€œStop staring. No matter how much you stare, heโ€™ll never be yours,โ€ Monica said with a smug grin.

Ameliaโ€™s heart sank. She was just about to look away when, out of nowhere, Landon suddenly turned around and met her gaze head on.

He looked at her, a trace of confusion flickering across his face. โ€˜Why do you look so sad? Are you a part of the memories Iโ€™ve lost?โ€™ he wondered.

Ameliaโ€™s jaw dropped in shock.

โ€˜Heโ€ฆ he knows he lost his memory!โ€™

โ€˜Ahhh! I knew itโ€“heโ€™s not that easy to fool! Even with amnesia, thereโ€™s no way heโ€™d just let people push him around,โ€™ Amelia thought.

โ€˜Maybe, just like Paloma, heโ€™s secretly trying to save himself,โ€™ she realized.

โ€˜Landon, youโ€™re the best!โ€™ she cheered inwardly.

Tears welled up in Ameliaโ€™s eyes, and she quickly covered her mouth to keep from sobbing out loud.

Her heart was pounding wildly with excitement.

Seeing her like that, Landon felt a strange heaviness in his heart for no reason at all!

He just wanted to go over and comfort her.

Butโ€ฆ

โ€˜Forget it,โ€™ he told himself. โ€˜Iโ€™ll wait until I remember everything. If I hug her now, thatโ€™d be way too muchโ€“and Monica would totally get suspicious.โ€

So, Landon turned and walked away, his tall figure disappearing up the spiral staircase.

At this moment, Amelia couldnโ€™t hold back anymoreโ€“she buried her face in her hands and started to sob, her shoulders shaking with the effort to keep quiet.

โ€œAmelia, whatโ€™s wrong?โ€ Paloma asked gently, feigning innocence as if she had no idea what was going on.

But Amelia just kept crying, not saying a word.

โ€œServes you right!โ€ Monica sneered.

โ€œMonica?โ€ Paloma turned to her.

Monica shook her head. โ€œItโ€™s nothing. Paloma, when are you planning to head back?โ€

โ€œWhat, youโ€™re already trying to kick me out when I just got here?โ€ Paloma laughed. โ€œI hardly ever get out, so I was thinking of crashing at your place for a few days.โ€

โ€œHuh?โ€ Monica let out a sudden cry.

It felt like she had just swallowed a bug.

โ€˜If Paloma stayed over, wouldnโ€™t that mean Amelia would be staying too?

โ€˜Ugh, no way! I absolutely do not want them staying here together!โ€™ Monica fumed inwardly.

โ€œMonica, whatโ€™s with that face?โ€ Paloma said, hiding a laugh behind her hand. โ€œYouโ€™re about to be a brideโ€“you should learn to be a bit more proper."

โ€œPaloma, donโ€™t ruin our couple time! Iโ€™ll book you a hotel,โ€ Monica said.

โ€œA hotel? How could that compare to your place? Besides, itโ€™s not even that safe,โ€ Paloma replied.

โ€œPalomaโ€ฆโ€ Monica started.

โ€œIโ€™m staying at your place. You handle the arrangements,โ€ Paloma said, leaving no room for argument.

As Paloma had made up her mind to stay over, Monica had no choice but to agree.

She pretended to have the servants make arrangements, but secretly kept texting Aiden, hoping heโ€™d come to take Amelia away as soon as possible.

Amelia calmed down after crying for a bit.

But sheโ€™d lost her appetite for coffee and cakes. โ€œCan I go for a walk in the garden?โ€ Amelia asked softly.

โ€œNo, you canโ€™t-โ€ Monica began.

โ€œIโ€™ll go with you,โ€ Paloma interrupted.

She was already leading Amelia out before Monica could finish.

Monica was left stomping her foot angrily.

โ€˜Is Paloma here just to mess with me?โ€™ she fumed inwardly.

To make sure Amelia didnโ€™t sneak any little notes, scraps of cloth, or old keepsakes to Landon, Monica had to stick close and keep an eye on her herself.

The three women strolled through the beautiful garden, each lost in their own thoughts.

While they were strolling, Landon stood behind the curtains on the second floor, peeking through a gap as he watched them, his frown growing deeper and deeper.

After a long moment, he muttered under his breath, โ€œAmeliaโ€ฆ Edwardsโ€ฆโ€ drawing out each part of Ameliaโ€™s name.

Too bad he didnโ€™t have a phone or a computerโ€“otherwise, he couldโ€™ve just Googled her and figured out who she really was.

Suddenly, a sharp pain flared up at the back of his head. He let out a muffled groan, clutching his head as he crouched down.

It took a whole ten minutes before he finally managed to recover.

By the time he got up and looked outside again, the three women were nowhere to be seen.

With a heavy heart, he withdrew his gaze, lay down on the bed, and stared blankly at the ceiling.

โ€˜Who am I? Where did all my memories go?โ€™ he wondered to himself.

The servants had arranged the rooms, and Amelia and Paloma ended up staying in rooms right next door to each other.

One was pregnant, and the other wasnโ€™t in the best health, so after their stroll through the garden, they both took naps.

Monica sat alone in the living room, fuming.

Finally, as dusk settled in, Aiden arrived. โ€œWhere are they?โ€ he asked.

โ€œTheyโ€™re sleeping,โ€ Monica said, pouting miserably. โ€œAiden, why did you let her come too?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll take her away right now,โ€ Aiden replied, his nerves frazzled the entire way over.

It wasnโ€™t that he was worried Landon might remember somethingโ€“what scared him was that Amelia might get too upset and put her pregnancy at risk.

Dr. Shawn had already warned him: this pregnancy was hard enough for Amelia. If she lost the baby, she might never be able to have children again.

And as the heir to the Kyle family, Aiden was expected to have a son, no matter what.

โ€œCome on, letโ€™s get moving,โ€ Monica said as she hurried to open Ameliaโ€™s door. โ€œMiss Edwards, Aidenโ€™s here to take you home.โ€

Amelia had already woken up and was just sitting there, leaning against the headboard, lost in thought.

When she heard that Aiden had arrived, she snapped to attention.

โ€œDonโ€™t be scared, Iโ€™m just here to take you home, thatโ€™s all,โ€ Aiden said quickly, trying to reassure her.

Monica looked away in disdain. โ€˜Such a pushover! Canโ€™t he be a little tougher for once?โ€™ she grumbled inwardly.

โ€œMr. Kyle, can we talk alone?โ€ Amelia asked, still propped up against the headboard, not moving.

Aiden hadnโ€™t had a real conversation with her in ages, so he immediately agreed. โ€œSure.โ€

โ€œCanโ€™t you just talk on the way?โ€ Monica said, her tone full of irritation.

Aiden shot her a glare that could kill. โ€œOut.โ€

Monica had no choice but to awkwardly walk out, and as she turned around, she nearly jumped out of her skinโ€“Landon was standing just two meters away.
