Chapter 227

The next day, Amelia announced she was heading back to Norava.

Both Monica and Aiden were thrilled, but Landon, sitting at the far end of the long dining table, looked anything but happy.

โ€˜Sheโ€™s leaving already?โ€™ he thought. โ€˜I havenโ€™t even had a chance to get to know her better, to ask if she knows anything about my pastโ€ฆโ€™ he wondered. โ€˜Why is she leaving so soon?โ€™ he couldnโ€™t help but think. โ€˜Could it be that her husband is back?โ€™ he wondered.

At that thought, Landon felt a pang in his heart.

What he didnโ€™t realize was that Amelia could hear every single word of his inner thoughts.

โ€˜My husband? But he is my husband,โ€™ she thought.

Amelia smiled softly. โ€œMr. Kingsley, if fate allows, weโ€™ll meet again.โ€

โ€œYup,โ€ Kayla replied coolly.

He snapped out of his thoughts and gave a small nod.

โ€˜Yes, if fate allows, weโ€™ll meet again,โ€™ Landon thought to himself.

He couldnโ€™t just sit around any longer. He had to get out of this place, dig up his past, and finally figure out where he truly belonged.

After breakfast, Amelia and Aiden left.

Monica let out a heavy sigh of relief. With only Paloma left and no longer a threat, she could finally relax and slip back into her usual routine of lounging around and enjoying herself.

In the afternoon, the doctor came to examine Landon.

โ€œHis condition is concerning. Weโ€™ll have to resort to psychological therapy,โ€ the doctor said.

Since nothing showed up physically, it had to be a psychological issue.

โ€œPsychological therapy? How does that actually work?โ€ Monica asked.

The doctor looked troubled. โ€œHeโ€™s under a lot of stress. We need to help him relax, talk to him, reason with him, try to get through to him emotionallyโ€ฆโ€

โ€œThatโ€™s all bullshit!โ€ Monica snapped.

Sheโ€™d tried countless ways to truly become Landonโ€™s woman.

But it was all for nothing.

โ€œMonica, maybe your feelings for each other just arenโ€™t deep enough yet. These things take time,โ€ the doctor said with a sigh. The best kind of romance is when things happen naturally. Forcing someone to stay by your side by wiping their memory โ€“ Monica, thatโ€™s just pushing it way too far.

โ€œUseless piece of shit!โ€ Monica snapped, the doctorโ€™s words hitting a nerve. She furiously kicked him out.

Landon lay on the bed, completely unbothered and in no hurry.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, darling. Weโ€™ll take our time with your treatment,โ€ Monica said as she brought over his pills and a glass of warm water. โ€œCommon, take your medicine for today.โ€

Landon frowned. โ€œHow much longer do I have to take these?โ€

โ€œUntil your headaches are gone,โ€ Monica replied with a coy little smile. โ€œYou had so many yesterday. You really suffered.โ€

Landon took the pills, swallowed them right in front of Monica, then lay back down and closed his eyes to sleep.

Monica said, โ€œDarling, you just rest at home. Iโ€™m taking my cousin out shopping.โ€

โ€œMm,โ€ Landon grunted, not bothering to open his eyes.

Monica headed out the door.

Landon sat up, gazing out the window at the blue sky and drifting clouds. A look of melancholy crossed his handsome face.

โ€˜When will I finally get the chance to see the world beyond these walls?โ€™ he wondered.

Beneath the same blue sky, they each nursed their own quiet sorrow.

Amelia gazed out the airplane window at the unfamiliar land below, unable to hide the loneliness in her heart.

They had only just reunited, and now they had to part ways againโ€ฆ

โ€˜Landon, when will we finally be together?โ€™ she wondered.

โ€œHeโ€™s already forgotten you, so stop coming back just to hurt yourself,โ€ Aiden said, clearly in a good mood as he crossed his legs, a teasing sparkle in his eyes.

Amelia didnโ€™t say a word.

โ€˜Is this really suffering? Not at all โ€“ Iโ€™m actually glad I made this trip,โ€™ she thought to herself.

Getting to see him while he had amnesia, and even hearing what was really in his heart โ€“ this was an experience sheโ€™d always treasure.

Now she could head back to Norava without a care, not the least bit worried about any sparks flying between him and Monica.

When the plane touched down in Norava, Gloria came to the airport herself to pick her up. โ€œAmelia, how was your business trip?โ€

โ€œIt went pretty well,โ€ Amelia replied with a tired smile.

Amelia managed a weary smile.

โ€œOh, you look so pale. You didnโ€™t do anything to hurt the baby, did you?โ€ Gloria asked, her voice full of concern.

Aiden started to look worried too.

โ€œNo, Iโ€™m just worn out from the long trip. Letโ€™s go home,โ€ Amelia said with a tired smile, climbing into the Kingsley family car as they drove off, leaving the airport behind.

Left behind at the airport, Aiden couldnโ€™t help feeling a bit bitter about it.

Amelia had seen Landonโ€™s current state with her own eyes. โ€˜What else is there for me to be hung up on?โ€™ she thought to herself.

โ€œMr. Kyle, shall we head back too?โ€ the butler suggested.

Aiden asked gloomily, โ€œHow much longer do you think Iโ€™ll have to wait before sheโ€™ll finallyโ€ฆfare my Queen?"

โ€œMr. Kyle, these things take time. We still need the antidote, and you two basically have a ten-year pact now,โ€ the butler replied.

โ€œExactly! Weโ€™ll be seeing each other a lot over these next ten years,โ€ Aiden said.

At that thought, Aidenโ€™s lips curled into a slow smile. โ€œThey say time heals all wounds. Once she finally gives up on waiting for Landon, then she'll realize just how good I am for her.โ€

โ€œYeah, yeah, of course,โ€ the butler replied quickly.

The butler secretly wiped the sweat from his brow.

โ€˜Man, this guyโ€™s got it bad. No one does lovesick like he does,โ€™ the butler thought to himself.

Not that it really mattered though.

Aiden wasnโ€™t actually going to wait ten years for Amelia. As the butler, all he needed to do was handle whatever came up right now.

โ€œWhat about Tuff? Has he made any moves?โ€ Aiden asked.

โ€œWeโ€™re keeping tabs on him. Honestly, it looks like he came to Norava just to chase after Amelia. Now that sheโ€™s left the country, heโ€™s got nothing better to do,โ€ the butler replied.

โ€œHmph, a toad dreaming of swan meat,โ€ Aiden sneered.

The butler looked a little worried. โ€œMr. Kyle, Ameliaโ€™s just so lonelyโ€ฆโ€

โ€œWhat can we do? She made a promise to my parents that sheโ€™d wait for my brother her whole life,โ€ Aiden let out a sigh.

Truth was, his heart ached for his sister too.

But when it came to his parentsโ€˜ wishes, he really had no choice but to go along with them.

Let her do as she pleases in Norava for now, even if that means spending some time with Tuff.

What he didnโ€™t realize was that Tuff wasnโ€™t here just for fun. Heโ€™d already dodged the Kyle familyโ€™s surveillance and headed straight for the Kingsleys.

โ€œAmelia, how did it go?โ€ Tuff asked nervously.

Ameliaโ€™s lips curled into a gentle smile. โ€œI saw him.โ€

โ€œIs he alright?โ€ Tuff pressed.

โ€œHeโ€™s doing pretty well,โ€ Amelia replied.

โ€œSoโ€ฆ did anything happen between you two?โ€ Tuff pressed, unable to hide his curiosity.

โ€œHe didnโ€™t even recognize me,โ€ Amelia replied.

But as Amelia said this, there wasnโ€™t the slightest hint of sadness in her expression.

Tuff eyed her suspiciously and said, โ€œWhy do you look like you just came back from a date or something? Youโ€™re literallyโ€ฆโ€

โ€œYeah, even though heโ€™s lost his memory, the feelings are still there. He doesnโ€™t just look after meโ€”he takes care of Paloma too,โ€ Amelia replied, a gentle smile spreading across her face as a sweet warmth bubbled up inside her.

โ€œThatโ€™s good to hearโ€ฆโ€ Tuff breathed a sigh of relief.

God knows how on edge Tuff was these past two days while Amelia and Paloma were over at the Montgomeryโ€™s place.

He even had his guys on standby, ready to rush to the Montgomeryโ€™s place, and bust them out at the slightest sign of trouble.

โ€œWhereโ€™s Paloma?โ€ Tuff asked, looking around for the familiar figure.

โ€œSheโ€™s staying a few more days,โ€ Amelia replied.

โ€œOh,โ€ Tuff said.

He couldnโ€™t hide his disappointment.

Amelia gave him a sly look. โ€œTuff, are you and Paloma for real, or is this all just a game?โ€

โ€œOfโ€ฆ Of course itโ€™s just a game,โ€ Tuff stammered, looking a little flustered. โ€œIโ€™m not good enough for her.โ€

Amelia just smiled and didnโ€™t say anything.

If she wasnโ€™t mistaken, Tuff was falling for her, big time.

โ€œWait, sheโ€™s not about to stir up some trouble, is she?โ€ Tuff suddenly blurted out.

Amelia blinked in surprise. โ€œNo wayโ€ฆ right?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re really underestimating her,โ€ Tuff said, rubbing his forehead. โ€œAmelia, Paloma was trained by a spy organization for years. She doesnโ€™t think like the rest of us.โ€

โ€œSo what do we do now?โ€ Amelia asked, starting to feel a little worried herself.

Paloma had managed to uncover her true identity even after losing her memory and being kept under the Kyle familyโ€™s thumb for years. That meant sheโ€™d been searching for her past all along.

Sheโ€™d helped Amelia with the mandrake poison, and even planted a bug in her watch to eavesdrop on Gloriaโ€™s daily lifeโ€ฆ

Now that she was staying at the Montgomeryโ€™s place, she might really have other motives.

Ameliaโ€™s heart skipped a beat as she pieced it all together, a chill running down her spine.

โ€œTuff, you have to do something! If the Kyle family finds out she already knows about her real identity, theyโ€™ll never let her or Landon goโ€ฆโ€ Amelia said anxiously.

โ€œIโ€™ll try reaching out to her,โ€ Tuff said, looking just as worried.

Amelia gritted her teeth. โ€œCanโ€™t we just have the Flying Tiger Sect step in and get them out first?โ€

โ€œAre you sure Landon can even leave Monicaโ€™s place right now?โ€ Tuff shot back.

Amelia hesitated.

She couldnโ€™t.

During that day and night together, sheโ€™d noticed Landon rubbing his temples all the time.

Paloma had said it was a side effect of the chip implantโ€“heโ€™d have to stay on the meds for a long while.

If he left in a rush and suddenly stopped taking them, it could actually put his life in danger.

โ€œDonโ€™t stress, Amelia. Weโ€™ll get him back safe and sound, I promise,โ€ Tuff said, trying to reassure her.

But Amelia just felt a wave of frustration wash over her.

She could keep the family business running for him, but she couldnโ€™t even rescue him from Monicaโ€™s clutches.

โ€œAmelia, maybe Palomaโ€™s got something up her sleeve for us. Letโ€™s wait and see,โ€ Tuff said, flashing her the text heโ€™d just received. โ€œJust because he lost my memory doesnโ€™t mean he lost his judgment. Iโ€™m going to tell him the truth!โ€

Ameliaโ€™s face changed instantly.
