Chapter 227
The next day, Amelia announced she was heading back to Norava.
Both Monica and Aiden were thrilled, but Landon, sitting at the far end of the long dining table, looked anything but happy.
โSheโs leaving already?โ he thought. โI havenโt even had a chance to get to know her better, to ask if she knows anything about my pastโฆโ he wondered. โWhy is she leaving so soon?โ he couldnโt help but think. โCould it be that her husband is back?โ he wondered.
At that thought, Landon felt a pang in his heart.
What he didnโt realize was that Amelia could hear every single word of his inner thoughts.
โMy husband? But he is my husband,โ she thought.
Amelia smiled softly. โMr. Kingsley, if fate allows, weโll meet again.โ
โYup,โ Kayla replied coolly.
He snapped out of his thoughts and gave a small nod.
โYes, if fate allows, weโll meet again,โ Landon thought to himself.
He couldnโt just sit around any longer. He had to get out of this place, dig up his past, and finally figure out where he truly belonged.
After breakfast, Amelia and Aiden left.
Monica let out a heavy sigh of relief. With only Paloma left and no longer a threat, she could finally relax and slip back into her usual routine of lounging around and enjoying herself.
In the afternoon, the doctor came to examine Landon.
โHis condition is concerning. Weโll have to resort to psychological therapy,โ the doctor said.
Since nothing showed up physically, it had to be a psychological issue.
โPsychological therapy? How does that actually work?โ Monica asked.
The doctor looked troubled. โHeโs under a lot of stress. We need to help him relax, talk to him, reason with him, try to get through to him emotionallyโฆโ
โThatโs all bullshit!โ Monica snapped.
Sheโd tried countless ways to truly become Landonโs woman.
But it was all for nothing.
โMonica, maybe your feelings for each other just arenโt deep enough yet. These things take time,โ the doctor said with a sigh. The best kind of romance is when things happen naturally. Forcing someone to stay by your side by wiping their memory โ Monica, thatโs just pushing it way too far.
โUseless piece of shit!โ Monica snapped, the doctorโs words hitting a nerve. She furiously kicked him out.
Landon lay on the bed, completely unbothered and in no hurry.
โDonโt worry, darling. Weโll take our time with your treatment,โ Monica said as she brought over his pills and a glass of warm water. โCommon, take your medicine for today.โ
Landon frowned. โHow much longer do I have to take these?โ
โUntil your headaches are gone,โ Monica replied with a coy little smile. โYou had so many yesterday. You really suffered.โ
Landon took the pills, swallowed them right in front of Monica, then lay back down and closed his eyes to sleep.
Monica said, โDarling, you just rest at home. Iโm taking my cousin out shopping.โ
โMm,โ Landon grunted, not bothering to open his eyes.
Monica headed out the door.
Landon sat up, gazing out the window at the blue sky and drifting clouds. A look of melancholy crossed his handsome face.
โWhen will I finally get the chance to see the world beyond these walls?โ he wondered.
Beneath the same blue sky, they each nursed their own quiet sorrow.
Amelia gazed out the airplane window at the unfamiliar land below, unable to hide the loneliness in her heart.
They had only just reunited, and now they had to part ways againโฆ
โLandon, when will we finally be together?โ she wondered.
โHeโs already forgotten you, so stop coming back just to hurt yourself,โ Aiden said, clearly in a good mood as he crossed his legs, a teasing sparkle in his eyes.
Amelia didnโt say a word.
โIs this really suffering? Not at all โ Iโm actually glad I made this trip,โ she thought to herself.
Getting to see him while he had amnesia, and even hearing what was really in his heart โ this was an experience sheโd always treasure.
Now she could head back to Norava without a care, not the least bit worried about any sparks flying between him and Monica.
When the plane touched down in Norava, Gloria came to the airport herself to pick her up. โAmelia, how was your business trip?โ
โIt went pretty well,โ Amelia replied with a tired smile.
Amelia managed a weary smile.
โOh, you look so pale. You didnโt do anything to hurt the baby, did you?โ Gloria asked, her voice full of concern.
Aiden started to look worried too.
โNo, Iโm just worn out from the long trip. Letโs go home,โ Amelia said with a tired smile, climbing into the Kingsley family car as they drove off, leaving the airport behind.
Left behind at the airport, Aiden couldnโt help feeling a bit bitter about it.
Amelia had seen Landonโs current state with her own eyes. โWhat else is there for me to be hung up on?โ she thought to herself.
โMr. Kyle, shall we head back too?โ the butler suggested.
Aiden asked gloomily, โHow much longer do you think Iโll have to wait before sheโll finallyโฆfare my Queen?"
โMr. Kyle, these things take time. We still need the antidote, and you two basically have a ten-year pact now,โ the butler replied.
โExactly! Weโll be seeing each other a lot over these next ten years,โ Aiden said.
At that thought, Aidenโs lips curled into a slow smile. โThey say time heals all wounds. Once she finally gives up on waiting for Landon, then she'll realize just how good I am for her.โ
โYeah, yeah, of course,โ the butler replied quickly.
The butler secretly wiped the sweat from his brow.
โMan, this guyโs got it bad. No one does lovesick like he does,โ the butler thought to himself.
Not that it really mattered though.
Aiden wasnโt actually going to wait ten years for Amelia. As the butler, all he needed to do was handle whatever came up right now.
โWhat about Tuff? Has he made any moves?โ Aiden asked.
โWeโre keeping tabs on him. Honestly, it looks like he came to Norava just to chase after Amelia. Now that sheโs left the country, heโs got nothing better to do,โ the butler replied.
โHmph, a toad dreaming of swan meat,โ Aiden sneered.
The butler looked a little worried. โMr. Kyle, Ameliaโs just so lonelyโฆโ
โWhat can we do? She made a promise to my parents that sheโd wait for my brother her whole life,โ Aiden let out a sigh.
Truth was, his heart ached for his sister too.
But when it came to his parentsโ wishes, he really had no choice but to go along with them.
Let her do as she pleases in Norava for now, even if that means spending some time with Tuff.
What he didnโt realize was that Tuff wasnโt here just for fun. Heโd already dodged the Kyle familyโs surveillance and headed straight for the Kingsleys.
โAmelia, how did it go?โ Tuff asked nervously.
Ameliaโs lips curled into a gentle smile. โI saw him.โ
โIs he alright?โ Tuff pressed.
โHeโs doing pretty well,โ Amelia replied.
โSoโฆ did anything happen between you two?โ Tuff pressed, unable to hide his curiosity.
โHe didnโt even recognize me,โ Amelia replied.
But as Amelia said this, there wasnโt the slightest hint of sadness in her expression.
Tuff eyed her suspiciously and said, โWhy do you look like you just came back from a date or something? Youโre literallyโฆโ
โYeah, even though heโs lost his memory, the feelings are still there. He doesnโt just look after meโhe takes care of Paloma too,โ Amelia replied, a gentle smile spreading across her face as a sweet warmth bubbled up inside her.
โThatโs good to hearโฆโ Tuff breathed a sigh of relief.
God knows how on edge Tuff was these past two days while Amelia and Paloma were over at the Montgomeryโs place.
He even had his guys on standby, ready to rush to the Montgomeryโs place, and bust them out at the slightest sign of trouble.
โWhereโs Paloma?โ Tuff asked, looking around for the familiar figure.
โSheโs staying a few more days,โ Amelia replied.
โOh,โ Tuff said.
He couldnโt hide his disappointment.
Amelia gave him a sly look. โTuff, are you and Paloma for real, or is this all just a game?โ
โOfโฆ Of course itโs just a game,โ Tuff stammered, looking a little flustered. โIโm not good enough for her.โ
Amelia just smiled and didnโt say anything.
If she wasnโt mistaken, Tuff was falling for her, big time.
โWait, sheโs not about to stir up some trouble, is she?โ Tuff suddenly blurted out.
Amelia blinked in surprise. โNo wayโฆ right?โ
โYouโre really underestimating her,โ Tuff said, rubbing his forehead. โAmelia, Paloma was trained by a spy organization for years. She doesnโt think like the rest of us.โ
โSo what do we do now?โ Amelia asked, starting to feel a little worried herself.
Paloma had managed to uncover her true identity even after losing her memory and being kept under the Kyle familyโs thumb for years. That meant sheโd been searching for her past all along.
Sheโd helped Amelia with the mandrake poison, and even planted a bug in her watch to eavesdrop on Gloriaโs daily lifeโฆ
Now that she was staying at the Montgomeryโs place, she might really have other motives.
Ameliaโs heart skipped a beat as she pieced it all together, a chill running down her spine.
โTuff, you have to do something! If the Kyle family finds out she already knows about her real identity, theyโll never let her or Landon goโฆโ Amelia said anxiously.
โIโll try reaching out to her,โ Tuff said, looking just as worried.
Amelia gritted her teeth. โCanโt we just have the Flying Tiger Sect step in and get them out first?โ
โAre you sure Landon can even leave Monicaโs place right now?โ Tuff shot back.
Amelia hesitated.
She couldnโt.
During that day and night together, sheโd noticed Landon rubbing his temples all the time.
Paloma had said it was a side effect of the chip implantโheโd have to stay on the meds for a long while.
If he left in a rush and suddenly stopped taking them, it could actually put his life in danger.
โDonโt stress, Amelia. Weโll get him back safe and sound, I promise,โ Tuff said, trying to reassure her.
But Amelia just felt a wave of frustration wash over her.
She could keep the family business running for him, but she couldnโt even rescue him from Monicaโs clutches.
โAmelia, maybe Palomaโs got something up her sleeve for us. Letโs wait and see,โ Tuff said, flashing her the text heโd just received. โJust because he lost my memory doesnโt mean he lost his judgment. Iโm going to tell him the truth!โ
Ameliaโs face changed instantly.
