Chapter 229

In Norava, Amelia paced her office, her anxiety growing with each passing day. She had full faith in Paloma, knowing that once Paloma committed to something, she saw it through. The biggest concern for both of them was how Landon would react. Would he believe Paloma? And if Monica found out, would everyone be in danger?

Suddenly, her assistant Tuff burst into the office, a phone clutched in his hand. โ€œAmelia, weโ€™ve got news!โ€

Amelia shot up from her chair, her heart pounding. โ€œWhat is it?โ€

โ€œLandon believed Paloma,โ€ Tuff said, practically buzzing with excitement. โ€œTheyโ€™re already planning to take down the Kington Gang together.โ€

This news was a massive relief. Not only had Landon accepted Palomaโ€™s story, but he was already working with her. This kind of inside-outside collaboration was their best chance to dismantle the gang.

โ€œThey're being too bold,โ€ Amelia said, a worried frown on her face. She had hoped Landon would return home first so they could discuss everything.

โ€œAmelia, you canโ€™t catch a tiger cub without going into the den,โ€ Tuff said, trying to reassure her. โ€œWe have to trust Landon.โ€

Amelia sighed. โ€œDid Paloma say anything else?โ€

โ€œNo, that's it,โ€ Tuff replied.

โ€œThen what can I do?โ€ Ameliaโ€™s voice was laced with helplessness.

โ€œYou donโ€™t need to do anything, Amelia. Just wait it out,โ€ Tuff said.

A few words sentenced her to an endless, uncertain wait. Amelia looked down, her delicate fists clenching in her lap.

โ€œAiden is still watching you,โ€ Tuff reminded her. โ€œRight now, doing nothing is the smartest move.โ€

Amelia finally uncurled her fists. โ€œYouโ€™re right. I wonโ€™t make things harder for us.โ€

โ€œThanks, Amelia,โ€ Tuff said.

Just as Tuff had said, Aiden was keeping a close eye on Amelia. He monitored her every move and every person she met. For days, her routine was simple: work, home, repeat.

Aiden finally felt a bit more at ease. When he called Monica, he couldnโ€™t help but gloat. โ€œAmeliaโ€™s given up. Sheโ€™s just making money now. Howโ€™s it going on your end?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s going fine. Heโ€™s very obedient, butโ€ฆ in that department, heโ€™s still not up to it,โ€ Monica said, a hint of regret in her voice.

Monica wanted a baby, hoping it would make Gloria give up on Amelia. But Landon couldnโ€™tโ€”or wouldnโ€™tโ€”do it, and there was nothing she could do about it.

โ€œDonโ€™t stress, Monica. Once you win his heart, the rest will come naturally,โ€ Aiden said, as if he were an expert.

Monica snorted. โ€œOh yeah? And what have you gotten from Amelia?โ€

Aiden was left speechless. He hadnโ€™t gotten anything at all, except a poisoned body.

โ€œCousin, you have to keep trying too!โ€ Monica encouraged him. They shared a moment of mutual understanding before hanging up.

Monica went to find Landon, swaying her hips. โ€œHoney, what are you up to? Is your headache bothering you today?โ€

โ€œIt hurts. It really hurts,โ€ Landon thought, gritting his teeth. But he forced himself to bear the pain. Paloma had told him that if he stopped taking the medication, his memories might return.

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t hurt,โ€ Landon said, his voice tight.

โ€œThatโ€™s great! It means the treatment is working,โ€ Monica said, pulling out a pill. โ€œHere, take todayโ€™s dose.โ€

Landon took the pill but didnโ€™t swallow it right away.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€ Monica urged.

โ€œIโ€™m just wondering if this medicine is affecting myโ€ฆ performance,โ€ Landon said, looking at the pill.

Monica was momentarily taken aback. โ€œWhy didnโ€™t I think of that before?โ€ she thought.

โ€œMaybe we should skip it today?โ€ Monica suggested.

โ€œForget it, letโ€™s just deal with the headache first,โ€ Landon said, pretending to swallow the pill as he slipped it into his mouth.

Monica didnโ€™t know what to say.

โ€œEvery time I take these pills, I get so sleepy. Letโ€™s just go to bed,โ€ Landon said, lying down and closing his eyes. He pulled Monica into his arms and quickly fell asleep. Monica, stuck in his embrace, stewed in her frustration.

She was starting to get agitated. โ€œIs curing a headache really more important than my sex life?โ€ she grumbled to herself. She had to find out if this medicine was interfering with his performance.

She quietly got up and headed to headquarters.

As soon as she left, Landon opened his eyes, spat the pill out, and flushed it down the toilet. He then took one of the pills Paloma had given him. His head started pounding, and he clutched it, trembling with the intense pain. By the time it subsided, his shirt was soaked with sweat, but his mind was clearer than ever.

Memories flooded back. He saw himself as a vegetable, Amelia running the company with his guidance, and Gloria crying for him.

โ€œIโ€™m Landon, Ameliaโ€™s husband,โ€ he whispered, his voice trembling with a mix of excitement and pain as tears welled in his eyes. Everything Paloma had said was true. With the help of the special meds and his sheer willpower, he had finally fought off the chipโ€™s control and his memories had returned.

โ€œHoney,โ€ Landon whispered, his heart aching. โ€œShe must have suffered so much while I was gone.โ€ He blamed himself for falling into Patrickโ€™s trap, for being captured, and for ending up in Monicaโ€™s hands.

โ€œAmelia, Iโ€™m so sorry,โ€ he whispered, his heart twisting with regret.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. โ€œKnock, knock! Are you in there?โ€ It was Paloma, his sister.

Landon jumped out of bed, rushed to the door, and pulled her inside. โ€œSisโ€ฆโ€

โ€œYou remembered everything, didnโ€™t you?โ€ Paloma said with a relieved smile. โ€œLandon, Iโ€™m so proud of you!โ€

โ€œSis, Iโ€™m so sorry,โ€ Landon kept repeating. โ€œIf it werenโ€™t for me, you never would have been kidnapped.โ€

โ€œHonestly, Iโ€™m grateful I was the one who took your place back then,โ€ Paloma said with a gentle smile, patting his back. โ€œI still havenโ€™t remembered the past, and I donโ€™t even remember you. Butโ€ฆ I truly donโ€™t blame you.โ€

Landon finally couldnโ€™t hold back his tears. โ€œSisโ€ฆโ€

โ€œAlright, nowโ€™s not the time to be sad. We need to figure out how to take down the Kington Gang,โ€ Paloma said in a low voice.

Landon let go of her and nodded firmly. โ€œSis, Iโ€™ve already planted the tracker you gave me on Monica. She went back to headquarters today, so weโ€™ll have the map soon.โ€

โ€œOkay!โ€ Paloma breathed a huge sigh of relief. โ€œIโ€™m glad I came to find you. Youโ€™re even more capable than I thought.โ€

โ€œSis, Iโ€™ll get in touch with the Flying Tiger Sect and start planning our takedown,โ€ Landon said.

โ€œOkay,โ€ Paloma replied.

When Monica returned, she looked upset. Landon asked gently, โ€œWhat happened?โ€

โ€œMy dad yelled at me,โ€ she pouted.

โ€œWhy?โ€ Landon asked, keeping a straight face. He was satisfied; Monica had gone to her dad, so the trackerโ€™s location was the Kington Gangโ€™s headquarters.

โ€œI questioned the doctorโ€™s skills and ended up getting into a scuffle with him,โ€ Monica complained.

Landon chuckled. โ€œDoes your hand hurt? Want me to blow on it for you?โ€

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t hurt. But honestly, I really think thereโ€™s something off about that medicine. I even suspect my dad did it on purpose,โ€ Monica said, her tone full of doubt. โ€œHoney, what should we do? You canโ€™t stop taking itโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDonโ€™t worry. Letโ€™s just focus on treating the headaches for now. We can deal with everything else later,โ€ Landon said, taking Monicaโ€™s hand and looking at it carefully. For once, he seemed to genuinely care about her.

Monicaโ€™s heart melted, and she threw herself into his arms. โ€œHoney, Iโ€™m exhausted today. Letโ€™s go for a swim togetherโ€”just the two of us, okay?โ€

Landon had been dying for a reason to get out of the house, so he jumped at the chance. โ€œSure, where do you want to go?โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s a pool at home,โ€ Monica suggested.

โ€œNah, thatโ€™s way too small,โ€ Landon shot back. โ€œBesides, I prefer hot springs.โ€

โ€œOh, is that so? Iโ€™ll make the arrangements,โ€ Monica replied, glowing with excitement. She had never agreed to bathe with her since she brought him back. Now that he finally said yes, she was determined not to let this opportunity slip away.

Monica quickly booked out a nearby hot spring hotel and took Landon there. She brought a ton of stuff, including some aphrodisiacs. When she saw Paloma downstairs, she panicked, worried Paloma might tag along. She quickly said, โ€œPaloma, weโ€™re going on a date. You stay home!โ€

โ€œNah, Iโ€™m heading back,โ€ Paloma said, her tone lazy but still carrying an air of elegance.

โ€œRight now?โ€ Monica blinked in surprise.

Paloma replied, โ€œMy little brother already booked my flightโ€”he said Landon misses me.โ€

โ€œThen you should hurry back!โ€ Monica said eagerly, more than happy to see her go.

โ€œYeah, you two go enjoy your date. Iโ€™ll just grab my things and head out,โ€ Paloma said.

Monica immediately grabbed Landon and hurried out with him, unaware that all of this was a setup between him and Paloma. The hot spring hotel was cleared out and reserved just for the two of them.

Landon was all smiles, showering Monica with sweet talk and even personally handing her a glass of milk to drink. Before long, Monica was floating on cloud nine and drifted off to sleep. Landon quietly slipped out of the hotel.

Paloma was already waiting outside, dressed in sharp leather from head to toe, looking fierce and confident. โ€œDid you handle her?โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ Landon replied, getting into the car. โ€œAs planned.โ€

โ€œTonightโ€™s gonna be epic!โ€ Paloma said, her red lips curling into a smirk as she floored the gas pedal. They sped off toward the city where the Kington Gang was headquartered.

โ€œLetโ€™s bring the fight to them! Time for payback!โ€ Landon thought, adrenaline surging through his veins. โ€œBring it on! Let the storm hit even harder!โ€

Ten minutes later, the Kington Gang was dealt a crushing blow. The Flying Tiger Sectโ€™s elite, along with Interpol, launched a well-planned assault. A surprise attack was one thing, but what really shocked everyone was that they knew the headquartersโ€™ layout inside out. The gang started losing ground, and with flames lighting up the night sky, Landon and Paloma stood side by side, their faces aglow.

โ€œLandon, youโ€™re something else!โ€ Tuff said, striding over in full gear, grinning like a goofball. โ€œEven in that mess, you managed to get your memories back.โ€

โ€œAll thanks to my sisterโ€™s medicine,โ€ Landon replied, glancing back. He was surprised to see a man standing next to Kayla. It was Brian.

Brian smiled apologetically. โ€œSorry that I havenโ€™t been able to fully cure you all yet.โ€

โ€œThanks,โ€ Landon said simply, giving Brian a meaningful look before glancing at Tuff.

Tuff, feeling stifled for way too long, shoved a gun into Landonโ€™s hand. โ€œYouโ€™ve been holding it in for agesโ€”go raise some hell!โ€

โ€œYou bet!โ€ Landon shot back, his eyes blazing with resolve. He cocked his gun and charged into the fray. He was born to be a king among men, and all the rage and frustration bottled up inside him were finally going to be unleashed.

โ€œGive me a gun too,โ€ Paloma said, grabbing Tuffโ€™s arm.

Tuff blinked in surprise, then grinned and handed her his pistol. โ€œKaylaโ€™s back in action! Thatโ€™s my girl!โ€

โ€œHmph!โ€ Kayla shot him a glare. Tuff just smiled sheepishly, wondering if one day she would remember her time in the spy organization and turn against them.

Gunshots and explosions echoed nonstop through the air.

Meanwhile, at the hot spring hotel, Monica was still fast asleep. It wasnโ€™t until dawn that she opened her eyes and realized the spot next to her was empty. Panic shot through her, and she bolted out of the room, grabbing a waiter. โ€œWhereโ€™s my husband?โ€

โ€œYou mean the gentleman who was with you, Miss Montgomery? Heโ€™s already left,โ€ the waiter replied.

โ€œLeft? Where did he go?โ€ Monicaโ€™s heart started pounding.

โ€œI donโ€™t know. He left in the middle of the night,โ€ the waiter replied.

โ€œThe middle of the night?โ€ Monicaโ€™s mind started racing. She thought back to the glass of milk heโ€™d handed her himself, and her stomach dropped. โ€œHe must have put a sleeping pill in that milk,โ€ she thought, her mind reeling. โ€œBut Landon had lost his memoryโ€ฆ why would he do that?โ€

โ€œNo wayโ€ฆ could it be?โ€ she thought, a wave of panic washing over her. With trembling hands, she called home. โ€œButler, has Landon come back yet?โ€

โ€œMiss, something terrible has happenedโ€ฆโ€ the butler sobbed.

โ€œJust spit it outโ€”what happened?โ€ Monica yelled, her voice shaking with urgency.

The butlerโ€™s voice cracked. โ€œThe Kington Gangโ€™s headquarters was attacked. The police have already taken controlโ€ฆโ€

Monicaโ€™s legs went weak, and she sank to the floor. โ€œI just went back yesterday, and now itโ€™s under attack? I totally fell for it! Landon set me up!โ€

She rummaged through her clothes and found a tiny tracker in the sole of her shoe. โ€œLandon, it really was you after allโ€ฆโ€ she cried, sobbing uncontrollably.

Her bodyguard rushed over. โ€œMiss Montgomery, itโ€™s not safe here. I have to get you out, now.โ€

โ€œWas it him?โ€ Monica cried, her voice shaking. โ€œWas it Landon?โ€

โ€œYes. It was him,โ€ the bodyguard confirmed.

โ€œWhy? He lost his memoryโ€”he wasnโ€™t supposed to remember anythingโ€ฆโ€ Monica sobbed.

โ€œWe still donโ€™t know why, but thatโ€™s just how it is. If we donโ€™t leave now, the cops will be here any minute,โ€ the bodyguard urged.

Monica just sat there, unable to accept that he had never been hers. โ€œWait, thereโ€™s still a way,โ€ she blurted out, snatching up her phone and dialing Aiden. โ€œAiden, the headquarters is under attack! Hurry and grab Ameliaโ€ฆโ€

โ€œItโ€™s too late,โ€ Aidenโ€™s voice came back, sounding utterly drained.

โ€œAiden?โ€ Monica gasped in disbelief. โ€œIf we can just get control of Amelia, Landon will let our parents goโ€ฆโ€

โ€œThe Zuckerberg family has her locked down tight. Thereโ€™s no way I can get to her. And nowโ€ฆ Iโ€™ve been captured too,โ€ Aiden said, his voice heavy with defeat.

Monica screamed in utter despair. โ€œLandon, you bastard! Youโ€™re the worst! I swear Iโ€™ll kill youโ€ฆโ€

โ€œMonica, the chip in Landonโ€™s head might be the Flying Tiger Sectโ€™s Achillesโ€˜ heel. You need to get out of there and regroup laterโ€”โ€ Aidenโ€™s words were abruptly cut off as the line went dead.

Monica was bawling her eyes out, her face streaked with tears. With no other option, her bodyguard knocked her out cold and carried her away.
