Chapter 282
“Let’s talk about people with supernatural powers,” Landon said.
Aiden hesitated for a moment before saying, “I don’t know all the details, but I know my Uncle Monroe is able to control time.”
Landon thought of a TV series where the male lead had the ability to pause time. In just a few seconds, he could turn the tide and kill his enemies. That was one terrifying ability.
Landon frowned. “How exactly does he control it?”
“He can pause time,” Aiden replied.
Landon asked, “For how long?”
“I’m not sure,” Aiden said, shaking his head. “So, you need to make sure he doesn’t show up on your battlefield, or he’ll just take control of the whole fight.”
Landon nodded, but he didn’t know how they were supposed to avoid going up against Monroe.
Monica was the Montgomery family’s only daughter. So, at this point, the whole family was probably laser-focused on taking him down.
“Aiden, Landon.” Just then, Kayla and Tuff showed up.
Both of them were dressed for battle, ready to throw down at any moment.
Aiden looked at them with a complicated expression.
“We’re ready to go!” Kayla said, pumped and ready to roll.
It had been a long time since she had fought anyone, so she was kind of looking forward to it.
“Sis…” Aiden rubbed his forehead. “If you guys just go charging in there, you’ll get taken out in seconds.”
“Tch! I don’t buy it,” Kayla scoffed. “If the Mystic Sect were really that powerful, Marvin wouldn’t have lost a finger.”
Tuff chimed in, backing up his wife. “I’ve already reached out to the Flying Tiger Sect. Our backup will be here soon.”
Landon held his cigarette, deep in thought. ‘If Monroe can control time, then no amount of backup is going to be enough to stop him!
“Let’s not go today. I’ll contact someone first,” Landon said.
“Who?” Aiden’s eyebrows shot up in surprise.
He couldn’t help but wonder if the Flying Tiger Sect had someone with powers who could counter Monroe’s time control.
His brother had once said that Monroe was a miracle unlike any other. The reason the Kyle family had been able to turn the Kington Gang into a global power was all thanks to Monroe’s help.
Over the years, many rivals had tried to challenge the Kington Gang, but none had succeeded.
If the Flying Tiger Sect really had someone with powers, they would’ve tried to crush the Kington Gang ages ago instead of waiting for Landon to get involved.
Chapter 282
In Norava, Amelia woke up to find it was already ten in the morning.
The phone had already been hung up, but Landon had left her a message: [Sleep well. I’ll be home soon.]
She read it a few times, then smiled in contentment.
“Mrs. Kingsley, Mr. Kimsey has been looking for you!” The helper, Dahlia Cooney, came in holding Kimsey.
The little boy reached out his arms the moment he saw his mom. “Mmm…” He was teething, so his speech came with plenty of drool.
“Kimsey,” Amelia said, scooping him up and planting a kiss on his chubby little cheek. “You woke up and didn’t see Mommy, huh? Were you upset? I slept in today…”
“Mm… Mmo…” Kimsey grinned sweetly, working hard to form the words.
Dahlia laughed. “Mrs. Kingsley, Mr. Kimsey is really smart. He might start talking soon.”
“He’s already kind of saying ‘Mommy,’” Amelia said as she pinched the boy’s chubby face. “But sweetie, why don’t you try saying ‘Daddy’ first? Dad… dy, okay?”
Kimsey just kept babbling, “Mom…”
“Try getting him to say ‘Daddy’ first. That way, whenever he needs something, he’ll call for his dad instead, and you can finally get some peace,” Dahlia joked.
After her quiet intention was seen through, Amelia flushed with embarrassment. “Dahlia, am I being selfish?”
“Not at all! Not at all. I’ve taken care of a lot of kids. Every mom teaches them the same way,” Dahlia replied.
Amelia burst out laughing, feeling relieved after learning every new mom had the same little tricks.
‘I wonder what goes through a new dad’s mind?’ Amelia mused and wanted to ask Landon.
She said, “Dahlia, while I’m not home, can you help teach him? Hopefully, by the time Landon comes back, Kimsey will be calling him ‘Daddy.’”
“Sure! From now on, whenever he needs a diaper change or gets thirsty, he’ll call for his dad, and you can finally relax,” Dahlia agreed.
“That’s right!” Amelia nodded, a mischievous smile on her lips. She could already picture Landon being bossed around by their son.
She played with her son at home for a while before heading to the company.
With Landon away, the responsibility of managing the business fell on her shoulders.
By the time she finished her work, it was already afternoon.
Just as she was thinking of visiting Gloria at the hospital, she suddenly received a call from an unfamiliar number. “Amelia, remember me?”
“Joanna?” Amelia practically jumped out of her chair in shock.
“Good, you still remember my voice,” Joanna said with a sinister laugh.
Even through the phone, Amelia could feel the chill in Joanna’s laughter.
‘She’s still alive? And reaching out to me? What is she up to?’ Amelia thought, anxiety twisting in her gut.
Chapter 282
“Amelia, let me give you something else to listen to,” Joanna said, her voice dripping with malice. Then, through the phone, came the muffled sound of a baby babbling, “Mm… Mom…”
‘Kimsey?’ Amelia’s heart nearly stopped.
“Joanna! What did you do to my son?” Amelia roared into the phone, her voice raw with panic and fury.
“I’m not into abusing children, so you better get here quickly. Once my patience runs out, I don’t know what I’ll do,” Joanna replied, her tone icy.
The call abruptly cut off.
Joanna hung up decisively and sent Amelia an address: Rosemill Pavilion.
Amelia charged out as she yelled, “Aaron!”
“Mrs. Kingsley?” Aaron appeared at once, his face pale with shock. “What happened?”
“Joanna’s back in Norava, and she’s taken Kimsey. Go check with Dahlia right now,” Amelia tried her best to stay calm, though her voice trembled.
Aaron was stunned. “On it!”
He checked with Dahlia and confirmed it.
Two hours ago, just like any other day, Dahlia had taken Kimsey to the baby swimming center as usual, but he went missing.
The timing lined up exactly with Joanna’s call.
“Did you check the security footage?” Aaron asked.
Dahlia said, “They’re checking now. Looks like a middle-aged woman in a headscarf carried Kimsey away.”
“Get me that footage now,” instructed Aaron.
Dahlia nodded. “Yes, sir.”
Amelia stared hard at her phone screen. It was Joanna. She had deliberately shown her face to the camera and even gave a creepy smile as she took Kimsey.
“Mrs. Kingsley, should we let Mr. Kingsley know?” Aaron asked, on high alert but still waiting for Amelia’s instructions.
They all knew how important Landon’s mission was, so it was best not to distract him.
If Amelia wanted to handle it herself, Aaron was on board.
After all, Norava was the Kingsley family’s turf. There shouldn’t be any real trouble.
“Even if I don’t tell him, someone else will. And that might just scare him more,” Amelia took a deep breath, her teeth clenched so tightly she nearly broke them. “I’ll tell him myself.”
Aaron sincerely admired the way Amelia handled things.
The Kington Gang had already been destroyed. Joanna wouldn’t have survived if Aiden had caught her. So, that meant she had stayed out of sight all this time.
But for her to show up right now, it was almost certainly because the Montgomery family had sent her.
Landon loved his wife and son more than anything. If he found out his son was missing at such a critical moment, he would totally lose his cool.
So, the best thing to do was to tell him directly.
Gritting her teeth, Amelia took a deep breath to steady herself and then called Landon. “Honey, I’ve got some bad news…”
“Honey, did you encounter someone with supernatural powers?” Landon asked.
At that moment, all Amelia could think about was her son–she couldn’t care less about people with powers.
She tried to sound as calm as possible. “Joanna came to Norava and took Kimsey, Aaron’s helping me get him back… I’m confident. So don’t worry.”
