Chapter 283
โJoanna?โ Landon blurted out in shock.
His astonishment quickly turned into anger.
Amelia had already guessed he would want to rush back to Norava, so she said, โI can handle it. You donโt need to come back.โ
โHoney, are you sure you can?โ Landon sounded worried.
But he had already called Night Owl for backup, and right now, he really couldnโt leave.
โHoney, I can handle it!โ Amelia said with a confident smile. โIโve already got experience dealing with Joanna.โ
โIs Aaron there?โ Landon asked.
โYep,โ Amelia replied.
Landon said, โPut him on the phone.โ
โOkay,โ Amelia said.
Aaron took the phone and kept saying, โYes! Okayโฆ Yesโฆโ
After they finished talking, Amelia had already come up with a planโcall the police.
Since her husband wasnโt around, she would let the cops deal with it.
โMrs. Kingsley, we can go now,โ Aaron said as he handed the phone back to Amelia.
โAlright.โ Amelia quickly called the police, explaining the situation and her decision.
Aaron listened with an approving smile as he thought, โMrs. Kingsley is pretty sharp. If she trains with the Flying Tiger Sect for a few years, she might turn out to be quite the fighter.โ
โAaron, do you think Iโm being a coward? Calling the police before even trying to fight?โ Amelia asked as they walked.
โNot at all. Mrs. Kingsley, this is a very smart move. Mr. Landon Kingsley has asked Mr. Renshaw for help,โ Aaron replied.
Amelia was surprised, thinking, โWow, Landon and I do think alike.โ
Just then, Ameliaโs phone rang. It was Maisie calling.
She hesitated, not sure if she should answer.
Maisie had already been hurt too much by Joanna, and Amelia didnโt want to make things worse for her.
โMrs. Kingsley, if you donโt answer, your family will worry,โ Aaron reminded her.
Maisie was basically like Ameliaโs sister now.
Worrying Maisie might have something urgent, Amelia picked up and forced a light tone. โMaisieโฆโ
โMy momโs back again, isnโt she?โ Maisieโs voice was urgent, on the verge of tears.
Amelia hadnโt planned on letting Maisie know about it at all.
โI know she took Kimsey. Donโt be scared, Amelia. My brother and I are taking a private jet over now,โ Maisie said.
Amelia replied, โMaisie, Iโm not panicking. You guys donโt need to eitherโฆ She just wants to cause trouble for Landon. She wonโt do anything to me or Kimsey.โ
โNo matter what, weโre coming,โ Maisie insisted.
Amelia couldnโt stop her and could only sigh.
Maisieโs heart was already in pieces, yet she was still trying to comfort Amelia.
Amelia really hoped Maisie could one day meet someone she loved and be embraced by another family, just like how she broke away from the Edwards family and joined the Kingsley family.
Half an hour later, Amelia showed up at the Rosemill Pavilion, just like Joanna had requested.
From a distance, she spotted a woman holding a child in the pavilion, and she felt her heart leap into her throat.
โKimsey!โ Amelia called out.
Without thinking, she dashed straight toward the pavilion.
When Kimsey saw his mother, he immediately started drooling and called out, โMomโฆโ
Joanna wiped his mouth with a tissue in disgust. โStop calling! Youโre drooling everywhere!โ
โEvery teething baby drools. Donโt touch my son,โ Amelia snapped.
When she finally got a good look at Joannaโs face, she was stunned.
In just a few months, Joanna looked like sheโd aged ten years.
โThere you are.โ Joanna sized up Amelia with undisguised jealousy.
After having a baby, Amelia had the motherly glow and looked even more beautiful.
It turns out, the best beauty secrets for a woman were love and money.
โGive me back my son!โ Amelia said and kept her eyes on Kimsey.
Joanna let out a smug laugh, feeling totally in control.
โI told you, Iโm not interested in hurting kids,โ she said.
Amelia asked, โThen what do you want?โ
โLet the Gellar family go,โ Joanna replied.
Ameliaโs pupils shrank in shock. โYou joined the Mystic Sect?โ
โWhat Mystic Sect? I owe the Gellar family a favor, and Iโm here to save them,โ Joanna said. โDonโt tell me you canโt do it. Landon will give you the authority to make it happen.โ
Amelia nodded. โAlright, Iโll do it.โ
โCall it in. Once I get confirmation that Marvin Young is safe, Iโll give you back your son,โ Joanna demanded.
โAlright,โ Amelia agreed.
She called right away. โAaron, release the Gellar family.โ
Joanna looked smugly satisfied.
Kimsey saw Amelia, but she didnโt pick him up, so he started crying in frustration. โMommmโฆโ
โKimsey, my sweetie.โ Ameliaโs heart ached. โJoanna, Aaron is already carrying out the order. Give me back my son.โ
โNot now,โ Joanna replied.
Amelia said worriedly, โHeโs crying so hard heโs losing his voice. Canโt you hear him?โ
Joanna jiggled Kimsey in her arms, trying to calm him, but it only made him cry harder.
โGive me back my son!โ Amelia lunged to grab him.
Joanna dodged. โAre you crazy? Try that again and Iโll throw him into the river!โ
The pavilion was surrounded by the river on three sides, supported by just a few posts.
One careless lift of the hand, and Kimsey would be thrown straight into the water.
Amelia stopped, panting with panic. โAlright, I wonโt try to take him. Just hold him tight.โ
โThatโs more like it,โ Joanna said.
Annoyed by the boy crying, she started pacing in the pavilion and kept checking her phone.
Finally, Marvin called. โWeโre out. Weโre safe.โ
โGood,โ Joanna said with a satisfied smirk, then told Amelia, โGo sit in the corner.โ
Amelia did as she was told.
Her face was full of anxietyโcompletely overwhelmed and frantic for her child.
Once she was seated, Joanna went to her car.
Right before she started the engine, she placed the child on the ground, then stepped on the gas and sped off.
โKimsey!โ Amelia ran over and scooped her son up.
Kimsey was heartbroken, crying so hard in her arms he could barely breathe.
โItโs all over now. Mommyโs taking you home,โ Amelia whispered, carrying the boy up the riverbank.
Aaron hurried over. โMrs. Kingsleyโฆโ
โWhereโs Joanna?โ Amelia asked.
Aaron replied, โWe let her slip away on purpose, just like we planned. Mr. Renshaw is tailing her now.โ
โWhat about Marvin?โ Amelia asked.
โWe let him out and planted a tracker on him. But we didnโt release Shelby,โ Aaron said.
โOkay.โ Amelia let out a sigh of relief.
Sheโd been racking her brain for a way into the Mystic Sect, and now Joanna had walked right into her trap. Amelia wasnโt going to show any mercy this time.
