Chapter 283

“Joanna?” Landon blurted out in shock.

His astonishment quickly turned into anger.

Amelia had already guessed he would want to rush back to Norava, so she said, “I can handle it. You don’t need to come back.”

“Honey, are you sure you can?” Landon sounded worried.

But he had already called Night Owl for backup, and right now, he really couldn’t leave.

“Honey, I can handle it!” Amelia said with a confident smile. “I’ve already got experience dealing with Joanna.”

“Is Aaron there?” Landon asked.

“Yep,” Amelia replied.

Landon said, “Put him on the phone.”

“Okay,” Amelia said.

Aaron took the phone and kept saying, “Yes! Okay… Yes…”

After they finished talking, Amelia had already come up with a plan–call the police.

Since her husband wasn’t around, she would let the cops deal with it.

“Mrs. Kingsley, we can go now,” Aaron said as he handed the phone back to Amelia.

“Alright.” Amelia quickly called the police, explaining the situation and her decision.

Aaron listened with an approving smile as he thought, ‘Mrs. Kingsley is pretty sharp. If she trains with the Flying Tiger Sect for a few years, she might turn out to be quite the fighter.’

“Aaron, do you think I’m being a coward? Calling the police before even trying to fight?” Amelia asked as they walked.

“Not at all. Mrs. Kingsley, this is a very smart move. Mr. Landon Kingsley has asked Mr. Renshaw for help,” Aaron replied.

Amelia was surprised, thinking, ‘Wow, Landon and I do think alike.’

Just then, Amelia’s phone rang. It was Maisie calling.

She hesitated, not sure if she should answer.

Maisie had already been hurt too much by Joanna, and Amelia didn’t want to make things worse for her.

“Mrs. Kingsley, if you don’t answer, your family will worry,” Aaron reminded her.

Maisie was basically like Amelia’s sister now.

Worrying Maisie might have something urgent, Amelia picked up and forced a light tone. “Maisie…”

“My mom’s back again, isn’t she?” Maisie’s voice was urgent, on the verge of tears.

Amelia hadn’t planned on letting Maisie know about it at all.

“I know she took Kimsey. Don’t be scared, Amelia. My brother and I are taking a private jet over now,” Maisie said.

Amelia replied, “Maisie, I’m not panicking. You guys don’t need to either… She just wants to cause trouble for Landon. She won’t do anything to me or Kimsey.”

“No matter what, we’re coming,” Maisie insisted.

Amelia couldn’t stop her and could only sigh.

Maisie’s heart was already in pieces, yet she was still trying to comfort Amelia.

Amelia really hoped Maisie could one day meet someone she loved and be embraced by another family, just like how she broke away from the Edwards family and joined the Kingsley family.

Half an hour later, Amelia showed up at the Rosemill Pavilion, just like Joanna had requested.

From a distance, she spotted a woman holding a child in the pavilion, and she felt her heart leap into her throat.

“Kimsey!” Amelia called out.

Without thinking, she dashed straight toward the pavilion.

When Kimsey saw his mother, he immediately started drooling and called out, “Mom…”

Joanna wiped his mouth with a tissue in disgust. “Stop calling! You’re drooling everywhere!”

“Every teething baby drools. Don’t touch my son,” Amelia snapped.

When she finally got a good look at Joanna’s face, she was stunned.

In just a few months, Joanna looked like she’d aged ten years.

“There you are.” Joanna sized up Amelia with undisguised jealousy.

After having a baby, Amelia had the motherly glow and looked even more beautiful.

It turns out, the best beauty secrets for a woman were love and money.

“Give me back my son!” Amelia said and kept her eyes on Kimsey.

Joanna let out a smug laugh, feeling totally in control.

“I told you, I’m not interested in hurting kids,” she said.

Amelia asked, “Then what do you want?”

“Let the Gellar family go,” Joanna replied.

Amelia’s pupils shrank in shock. “You joined the Mystic Sect?”

“What Mystic Sect? I owe the Gellar family a favor, and I’m here to save them,” Joanna said. “Don’t tell me you can’t do it. Landon will give you the authority to make it happen.”

Amelia nodded. “Alright, I’ll do it.”

“Call it in. Once I get confirmation that Marvin Young is safe, I’ll give you back your son,” Joanna demanded.

“Alright,” Amelia agreed.

She called right away. “Aaron, release the Gellar family.”

Joanna looked smugly satisfied.

Kimsey saw Amelia, but she didn’t pick him up, so he started crying in frustration. “Mommm…”

“Kimsey, my sweetie.” Amelia’s heart ached. “Joanna, Aaron is already carrying out the order. Give me back my son.”

“Not now,” Joanna replied.

Amelia said worriedly, “He’s crying so hard he’s losing his voice. Can’t you hear him?”

Joanna jiggled Kimsey in her arms, trying to calm him, but it only made him cry harder.

“Give me back my son!” Amelia lunged to grab him.

Joanna dodged. “Are you crazy? Try that again and I’ll throw him into the river!”

The pavilion was surrounded by the river on three sides, supported by just a few posts.

One careless lift of the hand, and Kimsey would be thrown straight into the water.

Amelia stopped, panting with panic. “Alright, I won’t try to take him. Just hold him tight.”

“That’s more like it,” Joanna said.

Annoyed by the boy crying, she started pacing in the pavilion and kept checking her phone.

Finally, Marvin called. “We’re out. We’re safe.”

“Good,” Joanna said with a satisfied smirk, then told Amelia, “Go sit in the corner.”

Amelia did as she was told.

Her face was full of anxiety–completely overwhelmed and frantic for her child.

Once she was seated, Joanna went to her car.

Right before she started the engine, she placed the child on the ground, then stepped on the gas and sped off.

“Kimsey!” Amelia ran over and scooped her son up.

Kimsey was heartbroken, crying so hard in her arms he could barely breathe.

“It’s all over now. Mommy’s taking you home,” Amelia whispered, carrying the boy up the riverbank.

Aaron hurried over. “Mrs. Kingsley…”

“Where’s Joanna?” Amelia asked.

Aaron replied, “We let her slip away on purpose, just like we planned. Mr. Renshaw is tailing her now.”

“What about Marvin?” Amelia asked.

“We let him out and planted a tracker on him. But we didn’t release Shelby,” Aaron said.

“Okay.” Amelia let out a sigh of relief.

She’d been racking her brain for a way into the Mystic Sect, and now Joanna had walked right into her trap. Amelia wasn’t going to show any mercy this time.
