Chapter 312
Amelia couldn’t wait any longer for Night Owl and Aiden to come back, so she sent a photo to Kayla.
Amelia texted, “Kayla, you’ve lived in Dreicean for years. Do you recognize this building?”
Kayla replied, “It kind of looks like a ‘door’! Amy, where did you take this? It’s less than 2 miles in a straight line from the Montgomery family’s place. I’m not sure if it’s just the angle or something else…”
Kayla said, “If you have any doubts, just look into it. I’ll talk to Landon. You and Night Owl stay out of this.”
“Got it!” Amelia replied.
Amelia glanced at the building again.
Without the fallen leaves in front, it didn’t really look like a “door” anymore.
‘Maybe I really am just overthinking things,’ she thought to herself.
Not long after, Night Owl came back with a sour look on her face.
Aiden was eagerly following behind her, chattering nonstop as he tried to explain himself.
Amelia couldn’t fight back a grin.
‘Was Aiden always this eager to please me before? I never felt a thing for him,’ she thought.
But now, seeing the same act play out with someone else, she actually found herself shipping them a little.
“Control your face!” Night Owl shot Amelia a glare.
Amelia couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst out laughing. “Haha, girl, I’m so sorry…”
“Why are you acting just like Landon?” Night Owl gritted her teeth in frustration.
‘She knows I can’t fall for anyone anymore, and yet she’s just here for the drama,’ Night Owl thought.
‘Not even trying to talk some sense into him!’ she fumed.
“This is his turf,” Amelia whispered.
Night Owl let out a cold laugh. “I could end him any second!”
“Not right now,” Amelia said, nodding toward the building in the distance. “See that one over there?”
“The one with two colors? It’s ugly as hell,” Night Owl grumbled, still so annoyed that everything looked awful to her.
Aiden thought to himself, ‘She looks so delicate, but she’s actually really straightforward. I like that!’
“How about now?” Amelia picked up a fallen leaf and held it in front of Night Owl’s left eye.
Night Owl’s eyes narrowed in surprise. “A door?”
“You see it too, right?” Amelia smiled. “Come on, let’s head back to the hotel.”
“That door… That door!” Night Owl blurted out, a flash of realization in her eyes.
Chapter 312
“Aiden will look into it,” Amelia said.
This place wasn’t just the turf of the mystic world–it was also the Kyle family’s domain.
Even with the Kington Gang gone, the Kyle family’s deep pockets and powerful connections were still nothing to mess with.
Suddenly, Night Owl found herself warming up to Aiden. With a cold expression, she said, “Once you figure it out, let us know right away.”
“Okay.” Aiden tossed the other two antidotes down the drain and flushed them away.
Aiden was absolutely thrilled inside. ‘Night Owl actually talked to me first!’ he cheered inwardly.
Compared to Daniel’s hellish quest to win his wife back, his own prospects were looking way brighter.
Feeling all smug, he called Daniel to check in. “Hey, Daniel, still can’t find your wife?”
“Found her,” Daniel lowered his voice, peeking through the glass in the door at Edith in her hospital room.
She was hooked up to an IV again.
After a few days of rest in the hospital, some color had finally returned to her face.
If it weren’t for Amy’s constant reminders not to scare Edith off again, Daniel would have barged right in, scooped her up in a hug, and told her everything he’d been holding in.
“You found her?” Aiden’s grin vanished in an instant, a hint of disappointment flickering in his eyes.
Daniel didn’t notice his letdown and asked impatiently, “What do you want?”
“I’m about to get myself a wife too,” Aiden said smugly.
Daniel’s eye twitched, and he hung up on him right away.
‘Crazy guy. What do I care if he gets a wife?’ Daniel scoffed to himself.
Just then, a teenage boy walked over with a care worker. “Hey, miss, why did Ms. Meyers move to this room?”
“I heard she wanted to avoid being disturbed, so they moved her over here,” the care worker replied.
‘Is he here to see Edith?’ Daniel thought to himself.
Daniel quickly ducked out of sight.
Watching the clean–cut boy walk into the hospital room, Daniel searched his memory. ‘Who is this guy? Edith doesn’t have a friend like that, does she?”
“Edith, this is a pregnancy tonic my master made himself. Just dissolve a spoonful in hot water and drink it every day,” the boy said with a smile.
“Thank you, Dan, you’re so thoughtful,” Edith replied warmly.
“No need to thank me. As long as you and the baby are safe, that’s all that matters,” the boy said sincerely.
As they chatted and laughed, Edith looked genuinely happy.
Daniel felt a wave of bitterness wash over him.
Chapter 312
“Dan? That kid’s got the same name as me. But she’s never once called me “Dan” with that kind of warmth, Daniel thought.
She always just used his full name–never anything close or sweet.
“Edith, how come your husband still hasn’t come to pick you up?” the boy asked.
“He hasn’t come,” Edith replied.
She felt partly disappointed, but mostly relieved.
‘Maybe he did come, and Amelia helped hide me from him,’ Edith thought to herself.
‘Or maybe, he never came at all!’ she mused.
No one knew.
She and Daniel were born on opposite sides of a deep feud–destined to never be together.
“He didn’t come?” Lennon’s tone changed.
Daniel thought to himself, ‘Is he getting all righteous now?’
‘Hmph! This snot–nosed kid thinks he can steal my woman?’ Daniel scoffed inwardly.
‘Come on, let’s take this outside and settle it like men! If I lose today, I’ll write my name backwards!’ Daniel thought, rolling up his sleeves, ready for a fight.
Just as Daniel was about to charge in, the boy’s voice drifted out again.
“Maybe he’s got something really important going on! Anyway, any guy who can get Edith to have his baby can’t be a bad guy,” the boy said with a grin.
Daniel was stunned.
“Edith, just take it easy and focus on resting for you and the baby. Don’t stress about anything. I’ll drop by often to see you, and if you need anything, just let me know,” the boy said warmly.
“Dan, aren’t you missing too much school because of this?” Edith asked with concern.
“It’s fine! Ever since I met you, my cultivation’s gotten way better! My master keeps praising me every day…” the boy grinned.
Whatever they were saying inside, Daniel just couldn’t bring himself to eavesdrop any longer.
If he listened to even one more word, he’d just be judging a good person with a petty heart.
He quietly retreated to a corner, reflecting on himself.
After all the back and forth with Edith over the past three years, he’d still managed to make her this unhappy. ‘Was it because I’m too suspicious? Or just too overbearing?’ Daniel wondered.
‘Edith, just tell me what you can’t stand about me! I promise, I’ll change!’ Daniel thought to himself.
Daniel had been working through his own issues for who knows how long when the hospital room door finally opened.
Lennon walked out with a bright smile, and the sight of this sunny, good–looking kid made Daniel zone out for a second.
‘Man, what a clean kid!’ Daniel thought to himself.
Chapter 312
Daniel hesitated for a second, then followed after him.
“You’re… Daniel?” Lennon spotted him immediately.
Daniel was taken aback. “Have you seen me before?”
“No,” Lennon shook his head. “Oh, so you’ve already come to Pinecrest!”
“Yeah.” Daniel gave him a pat on the shoulder, acting all big brotherly. “Thanks for cheering Edith up.”
Lennon smiled, sizing Daniel up. “No problem. She’s doing really well now, so you don’t have to worry.”
“That pregnancy tonic you brought her…” Daniel started.
“It’s the real deal! My master’s secret recipe–lots of people would kill to get their hands on it!” the boy said proudly.
His eyes were so clear, not a hint of scheming or ulterior motives in them.
Daniel was momentarily stunned.
In his world, everyone was always plotting something, so he’d had to toughen up and build walls of steel around himself ever since he was a teen.
It had been ages since he’d met a grown–up this pure and straightforward.
“Who’s your master?” Daniel asked.
“Ah, that’s a secret I can’t share,” Lennon said, giving Daniel a playful wink and putting on a mysterious air. “But don’t worry, Daniel, I’m definitely not a bad guy. Who knows, maybe fate will bring us together again someday.”
To Daniel, though, the kid just seemed more simple–hearted than mysterious.
Still, instead of making fun of him, Daniel nodded along. “Meeting you must be fate. If you ever need anything from me, just say the word.”
“Let’s exchange WhatsApp numbers then! You didn’t show up because you didn’t want to upset Edith, right? I’ll be coming by a lot, so if there’s anything that’s inconvenient, just let me know and I’ll help out.”
‘Such a warm–hearted kid!’ Daniel thought to himself.
Daniel added him on WhatsApp and gave him a special note: “Helpful Kid“.
But the boy saved Daniel’s contact as “Big Brother“.
