After that day, Daniel started treating Lennon like his personal errand boy. One day it was flowers, the next it was apple pies–Edith’s hospital room was soon overflowing with gifts.

She was speechless. “Lennon, aren’t you still a student? Don’t spend so much money on me. It makes me feel guilty.”

“It’s fine, Edith. These don’t cost me anything,” Lennon said with a smile, looking like the friendly neighborhood kid.

Edith’s heart skipped a beat. “Then whose money did you use?”

Lennon thought for a second, then flashed a bright grin. “The sect’s.”

“Your sect actually has a fund for helping people?” Edith couldn’t help but laugh, but she was pretty sure he was just making it up.

Still, she felt she had to pay him back. Edith did a quick mental calculation of the gifts she’d received these past few days, then transferred a hundred thousand to Amy.

“Edith, you don’t have to pay me back…” Lennon protested.

“If you don’t take it, don’t come back tomorrow,” Edith said firmly.

Lennon chuckled. “Alright, I’ll take it.”

‘Come on, Edith, I really didn’t spend a dime. Your husband bought all that stuff!’ he thought.

“Edith, do you still miss him?” Lennon asked.

Edith paused. “Him? Who are you talking about?”

“The father of your child,” Lennon said.

A hint of sadness flashed in Edith’s eyes, and she shook her head gently. “No, I don’t.”

“Why?” Lennon asked.

“There’s no way for us. So, I let it go,” Edith said.

Just on the other side of the door, hearing those words made Daniel feel like his heart was shattering.

‘Edith, how could you give up on me? I was ready to let go of all my resentment and even agreed to let Joanna go back to the capital for you. How could you just give up on me?’ he thought.

“Edith, then your child won’t have a father,” Lennon said.

Daniel’s spirits lifted. ‘Good reminder! Keep talking!’

He thought, ‘Edith’s way too soft-hearted. She’ll definitely come back to me for the kid’s sake.’

“I can raise the child by myself,” Edith replied, as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

That nonchalant tone pierced Daniel’s heart all over again.

“Even though I don’t have much ability, I do have some savings. I could open a piano academy and hire a few piano teachers…” Edith spoke with ease and confidence.

Chapter 313

Daniel was stunned. Edith had always been the pampered rich girl type–never had to lift a finger or worry about money.

Her biggest talent was the piano, and ever since she moved out last year, she even taught piano for a bit.

And now she was actually thinking about starting her own business!

“Edith, you’re really something. If you’ve made up your mind, then just go for it!” Lennon decided not to say anything more.

His master always said, there’s a knack to dealing with people. Sometimes, all someone really needs is just a bit of temporary validation.

That was exactly the kind of emotional support Edith needed right now, and Amy’s encouragement made her light up. “Dan, you think it could work too?”

“Yeah, but that’s something to think about after the baby is born. For now, just focus on your pregnancy, okay?” Lennon said.

“I will! This baby is going to be my reason to keep going for the rest of my life!” Edith said with determination.

Daniel thought, ‘Damn, I really have been abandoned…’

Lightning streaked across the sky, thunder rumbled, and the wind howled. The clouds above grew darker and heavier, until they finally seemed to tumble from the heavens, breaking apart into sheets of rain. The sound of the rain was so loud that Daniel could no longer hear the conversation inside the room.

He felt like all the strength had been sucked out of him. Daniel just sat there on the cold floor, covering his face with his hands in utter despair, as if his whole world had come crashing down.

“Sir, are you not feeling well?”

He had no idea how long he’d been sitting there when a familiar voice sounded above his head.

“Edith?”

Daniel jerked his head up. Edith’s frown instantly vanished, her face going pale in shock. “It’s you?”

She had just stepped out to see Lennon off, and when she opened the door and spotted a man sitting on the floor, she casually asked out of concern. Who would’ve thought–it was Daniel!

“Edith…” Daniel called out, his voice trembling with emotion.

“We’re done,” Edith said, her tone icy and resolute.

With her face drained of color, Edith stumbled back into the hospital room, slammed the door shut, and leaned against it, gasping for breath.

‘Oh my God, how did he find me?’ she thought.

‘Didn’t Amy take care of everything? How did Daniel still manage to track me down?’

‘What am I supposed to do now?’

The hospital room was on a high floor–no way I could escape out the window.

Chapter 313

‘Wait, I need to find Amy!’ she thought. Whether it was fear or excitement, Edith’s hands were shaking so much that she fumbled with her phone for ages, but just couldn't manage to dial a number.

From the other side of the door, Daniel’s hoarse voice drifted in.

“Edith, hey, relax. I’m not here to drag you back with me,” he said.

‘Really?’ she thought to herself, a bitter smile tugging at her lips. A wave of sourness welled up in her chest, and she let her hand fall, giving up on calling for help.

‘So, turns out he’s not here to take me home after all…’ she thought.

‘Makes sense. After what Joanna did to his whole family, there’s no way he’d ever forgive her.’

“Edith, I’ve actually been here for several days now, just waiting for you,” Daniel said softly.

Edith paused, and suddenly it all clicked.

Just then, a message from Lennon popped up on her phone: “Edith, he bought everything. I was just passing them along for him.

“Edith, he’s really a good guy. Why not give him another shot?”

Edith’s heart twisted, and she couldn’t stop the tears from streaming down her cheeks.

‘Daniel, Daniel, what should we do?’ she thought.

‘My father’s stubbornness and your struggles—it’s like a vast ocean stands between us…’ she thought.

“Edith, I’ve already met with Joanna,” Daniel said.

Edith tensed up. “And… and then?”

“I agreed to let her go back to Lunova,” Daniel said.

Edith’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“For you, I’m willing to compromise. But Joanna seems really conflicted and still hasn’t given me an answer,” Daniel said.

“Where did you see Joanna?” Edith asked, her breath coming in quick, anxious gasps.

‘She didn’t get caught again, did she?’ Edith worried to herself.

“Right here at the hospital. After you fell and were admitted, she came to visit you,” Daniel replied.

“What?” Edith was totally stunned.

So everyone was secretly fighting their own battles behind her back! She had no idea her family had been quietly looking out for her all along.

All this time, she really thought she was fighting this battle alone.

“She loves you more than she loves Mais. I understand how you feel about her,” Daniel said with a bitter smile. “Edith, we’re both willing to compromise for you. Please, stop making things so hard on yourself.”

Edith’s tears just kept coming, and soon she was sobbing uncontrollably.

“Edith, the doctor said you shouldn’t get too emotional,” Lennon reminded her anxiously. “Edith, please open the door and let us come in!”

Chapter 313

“Edith, don’t be scared. I’m here for you now. I’ll always have your back, and I won’t let you go through this alone ever again."

Finally, Edith opened the door.

The two of them just stared at each other, all sorts of feelings swirling in their hearts.

Amy gave Daniel a nudge from behind, and finally, the two of them hugged each other tight.

“Edith…” Daniel called out, his voice thick with emotion.

“Daniel…” Edith said, her voice trembling.

Lennon’s lips curled into a happy smile as he stepped back–mission accomplished, time to make his exit!

‘I’m so quick-witted. Master’s totally going to praise me for this!’ he thought.

At the end of the hallway, Joanna, disguised as a nurse, slowly made her way over. She stood outside the door, watching the two of them embracing each other in tears, her own eyes turning red.

Love really was a kind of magic. It could make people let go of old grudges, and even make them stay together until the very end.

Sadly, she’d never known that kind of love herself.

Porte, her own husband, Daniel’s father, had nothing but hatred for her…

After a long while, Joanna quietly turned and left.

But she was stopped by Maisie.

“Mom, haven’t you figured it out yet? How much longer are you going to keep torturing them?” Maisie asked.
