Monroe was at his wit's end dealing with Monica and Paul.
When Joanna returned, his mood lifted a little. He asked, โDid you bring back what I wanted?โ
โYes,โ Joanna replied.
She opened her suitcase and took out an old, worn book.
The battered cover only faintly revealed two characters: โSecret Arts.โ
The contents were all written in a script that looked like ancient oracle bone scriptโno one could make heads or tails of it.
โWell done!โ Monroe flipped through the pages with a smug smile. โAh, the Zuckerberg family kept this hidden for so many years, and now itโs finally in my hands.โ
Joanna asked, โMr. Montgomery, my task is done. When can I see him?โ
โNow,โ Monroe replied.
He called over Paul and whispered a few words to him.
Soon, Paul led someone into the Montgomery familyโs living room.
Landon, who was hiding on the stairs and peeking, almost tumbled down the steps in shock.
โPorter?โ Landon blurted out.
The guyโs face, build, and vibeโฆ It was Porter.
โDid Monroe really catch him too?โ Landon thought, his breath quickening.
โWait, somethingโs not right!โ Landon thought, his heart skipping a beat.
โJoanna doesnโt even know Porter is still aliveโฆโ he realized.
โJoanna, take a good look. Isnโt he an exact match?โ Monroeโs voice rang out.
โYes, he is. You did a great job,โ Joanna said with a satisfied smile. She stepped forward and nestled into Porterโs arms. โHoney, youโre finally back with me.โ
โHoneyโฆโ Porter said softly, his voice deep, steady, and strangely compelling.
But the real Porter, after years of mourning his late wife and blaming himself, had ruined his voice long ago.
Landonโs chest heaved as he struggled to breathe. โA clone. Thatโs not the real Porterโthatโs a copy,โ he realized.
Joanna had joined the Mystic Sect just so she could have a cloned husband.
Though he knew he shouldnโt, Landon couldnโt help but feel a little sorry for her.
Porter had never loved her. Heโd rather fake his own death than ever show up where she was.
โWhy go through all this?โ Landon thought.
โWhat are you doing here?โ Monica said behind him, her voice full of annoyance.
Her voice carried downstairs, startling everyone in the living room.
Landonโs face changed for a split second, but he quickly put on his "het actor" face.
He gazed at Monica, eyes full of longing, and said, โI was waiting for youโฆโ
โGet lost! Youโre so annoying! I donโt even like youโwhy do you keep chasing after me?โ Monica grumbled, completely fed up, and gave Landon a hard kick.
Landon let himself tumble down the stairs, rolling to a stop right in front of Porterโs clone.
Porterโs clone looked down at him, not reacting at all.
Landon got up on his own and said to Mr. Montgomery, โSorry for the interruption.โ
โYouโre such a disappointment,โ Monroe muttered, just seeing Monica gave him a headache. He quickly ordered Paul to leave.
But it was too late.
Monica had already spotted Paul.
She threw herself at him, wrapping herself around him. โHoney, why didnโt you nap with me? I woke up and couldnโt find youโI was so worriedโฆโ
โโฆโ
Paul glanced awkwardly at Monroe, looking flustered.
Monroe took a deep breath and glared at Landon.
Landon got the hint and stepped forward to pull Monica away. โIโm your fiancรฉโฆโ
โGet lost!โ Monica shoved him away, clinging even tighter to Paulโs neck. โHeโs my husband.โ
โYouโre breaking my heart. I love you so muchโฆโ Landon barely got two lines out before he felt so grossed out he just couldnโt keep going.
He lowered his gaze, letting his thoughts drift to Amelia, and in his mind, he whispered to her phantom, โHoney, I love youโฆ
His acting was flawless, and Monroe looked very satisfied.
The love spell was seriously powerful, but this whole love triangle mess was a real headache to deal with.
Luckily, Joanna had brought the Zuckerberg familyโs ancestral โSecret Artโ book, and inside, there was actually a way to break the love spell.
Joanna stared at the scene in shock and couldnโt help blurting out, โMr. Montgomery, what is this supposed to be?โ
โA love triangle,โ Monroe said flatly.
โAlright, just take Porter with you and go,โ Monroe waved her off.
โYes,โ Joanna answered.
Joanna linked arms with Porterโs clone and left, glancing back over her shoulder every few steps.
She couldnโt shake the feeling that things between Landon, Monica, and Paul were just way too awkward and tangled.
For someone as sharp as Landon, getting his memory wiped was just another Tuesdayโheโd been through it before, after all.
โBut seriously, how could he ever fall for Monica?โ
Some feelings are just in your blood. Landon and Amelia, thatโs what real love looks like.
Last time he lost his memory, he still couldnโt forget Amelia. The moment he laid eyes on her, he fell for her all over again!
And did all those years of loving in vain finally drive Monica crazy?
Even if sheโs lost her mind, shouldnโt she still know hot from not?โ
โSeriously, passing up a total heartthrob like Landon for the old butler. Thatโs just nasty.
The more Joanna thought about it, the stranger it all felt.
Suddenly, she froze in her tracks, a chill running down her spine as she glanced back at the Montgomery mansion. โWaitโare all three of them being mind-controlled?โ she thought, horrified.
Unbelievable! No matter how crazy Monroe is, thereโs no way heโd actually screw over his own daughter like that, right?โ
โHoney, letโs go,โ Porterโs clone said softly, giving her a gentle nudge.
Joanna snapped out of her thoughts, flashed Porterโs clone a dazzling smile, and the two of them left arm in arm.
Once all the โguestsโ had left and Monroe was gone too, Landon couldnโt be bothered to keep up the act anymore.
He subtly hinted to Paul to take Monica away.
Paul looked a bit troubled.
To be honest, age was catching up with him, and he was starting to feel the strain.
But Monica had an insatiable appetite in bed, always looking for an excuse to drag him under the covers.
Like todayโheโd just slept with her before Landon even left the house, and now she wanted to go againโฆ It had only been a few hours!
โHere, take this,โ Landon said, suddenly producing a Viagra pill out of nowhere.
Paul squinted at him. โWhereโd you even get that?โ
โPicked it up while I was out today,โ Landon replied coolly. โDonโt want it? Iโll just use it myself.โ
Paul snatched the pill from his hand.
Landonโs eyes narrowed slyly, fox-like. โNailed it! My standing in this family just keeps going up,โ he thought smugly.
The next day, while Monroe was out, Paul once again let Landon out for some fresh air.
Partly to stay on Landonโs good side, and partly to cut down on the chances of him pestering Monica.
Amelia showed up right on time.
Today, she came by herself.
The moment Landon saw her, worry flashed in his eyes. โHoney, how could you come to meet me alone?โ he thought.
Amelia flashed him a bright smile.
She didnโt have anything important to do todayโshe just wanted to see him.
So sheโd left Night Owl to rest at the hotel. But she wasnโt alone; she had someone else with her.
โHoney, go back right now. Donโt ever come alone again,โ Landon said in his mind.
Amelia shook her head and waved at someone who had just walked in the door. โKayla, over here!โ
โIโm late,โ Kayla said.
โKayla! Landon nearly blacked out from shock.
โSeriously? Why is everyone showing up now?โ he thought, feeling dizzy.
โKayla, the desserts here are really good. I already ordered one for you,โ Amelia said, pitching her voice higher to disguise her usual tone.
Landon furrowed his brows.
โSo she can actually speak in such a sweet, girly voice? I never noticed that before,โ he thought.
That was actually kind of a turn-on.
He made a mental note: once they got back, heโd have her talk to him like that every single night.
โAlright, Iโll give it a try,โ Kayla said. She had completely changed her face.
Her nose was now higher, the tip rounder, and all the scars on her face were hidden under some special material.
Landonโs eye twitched, and his heart ached a little.
โAll this, just to see meโฆโ he thought, feeling a mix of guilt and tenderness.
โHoney, I have some news for you,โ Landon said in his mind.
Ameliaโs eyes lit up, and she leaned in closer.
The two tables between them felt like they didnโt even exist; both of them could clearly sense each otherโs presence.
It was so familiar, so warm.
Landon felt his heart flutterโhe just wanted to pull her into his arms right now and tell her how much he missed her.
โAhem!โ Kayla cleared her throat, bursting their little love bubble.
Landon spoke in his mind: โJoanna just took the clone of Porter from the Montgomery family. Turns out the Mystic Sectโs cloning tech is seriously next level.โ
