โDonโt worry about anything, Kayla. Weโre the ones who have true love,โ Amelia said, handing Kimsey over to Kayla with capust ease.
She shook out her arms, stretching them. โThe little brat keeps getting heavier. My arms are sore! Kayla, was it the same when you had to carry Landen?โ
Kayla chuckled. โAbsolutely. I could probably do bicep curls now.โ
Amelia pouted, โYour brother keeps asking me to have another baby, but I told him no way. Giving birth is like knocking on death's door. Once is more than enough for me.โ
Kayla knew exactly what she meant: with Landen around, there was no need for another child.
โThatโs certainly a unique way to comfort me,โ Kayla thought.
Kayla teased Kimsey and said, โHonestly, it doesnโt matter. If I can have another, great. If not, Tuff doesnโt mind.โ
โYeah, I donโt mind,โ Tuff said, sounding like heโd said it a hundred times already.
โMan, these women are always stirring things up and putting me on the spot,โ Tuff thought, feeling like he was always getting roasted.
โIโve made arrangements with Giovanna to get my face treated,โ Kayla said as she teased Kimsey. โThe kidโs got guts. Heโs not even fazed by me looking like this.โ
Kimsey giggled, reaching out his little hand, trying to touch Kaylaโs scars.
Kayla instinctively pulled back, not letting him touch them.
Kimsey looked a little disappointed.
โHeโs not just unafraid. Heโs downright curious!โ Amelia said with a laugh.
The adults all laughed, just chalking it up to Kimsey being a curious kid.
Kayla pinched his cheek gently and said, โYouโre so brave, Kimsey. Youโre going to be something special when you grow up. Make sure you look out for me, alright?โ
Kimsey gave a solemn little nod.
โOh man, heโs got that oldโsoul vibe like Landon did when he was a kid!โ Kayla joked, laughing again.
The adults burst into laughter again, their voices spilling out the windows and drifting through the whole courtyard.
Emma, who had seen Kaylaโs sharp tongue in action that day, was in the kitchen gossiping. โMrs. Kingsley is something! She put Mrs. Prescott in her place so fast. Mrs. Prescott tried to play the victim, but Mrs. Kingsley was one step ahead.โ
โWow, thatโs impressive! Thereโs someone in this family who can put Mrs. Prescott in her place!โ another servant said.
โExactly! You all better watch your step. Donโt cross her,โ Emma warned.
โShe canโt even have kids. Sheโs enjoying the bossโs attention for now. Give it a few years, and she wonโt be so high and mighty!โ another servant scoffed.
Chapter 357
โThe Kingsley family had people over today. You know whoโs got their back?โ Emma gossiped.
โWho?โ someone asked.
โThe Hughes family and the Zuckerberg family! All heavy inโlaws!โ Emma replied, eyes wide.
โWith that kind of backing, the Prescott family can only lie low!โ another servant chimed in.
โYeah. Be smart. Donโt bring up the whole havingโkids thing in front of her from now on,โ Emma warned.
โYeah, we get itโฆโ everyone chimed in.
Amelia and Landon showing up in the city had the Prescott family sweating bullets.
Lily, the familyโs drama queen, was suddenly silent.
The whole Prescott family was on their best behavior. Not a single soul dared to badmouth Kayla anymore.
Kayla was pretty pleased.
Having her family backing her up changed the game.
It was nothing like those years sheโd spent trapped in the Kyle family, amnesiac and at everyoneโs mercy.
Amelia spent that night at the Prescott familyโs house with her child.
Landon used the opportunity to return to the Flying Tiger Sect and meet Larry, his master, in person.
โYouโre here. Whereโs Joanna?โ said Larry, who was casually making coffee, like it was another day.
The steam swirling around him made his white hair and beard look almost ethereal, like some wise old master straight out of a story.
Landon turned off the coffee maker. โCoffee at night will keep you up, you know.โ
โIโm getting old. I barely got a few hours of sleep anyway,โ Larry replied, smiling as he glanced over at Landon.
Landon was his star pupil, the strongest in the Flying Tiger Sect. If Landon werenโt so determined to step down, Larry wouldโve seriously considered passing the reins of the sect to him.
โMr. Mitchell, Iโm here to get my resignation signed,โ Landon said, getting straight to the point. โAs for Joanna, sheโs hiding so well, we canโt do a thing about it.โ
โOh? Even Mr. Zuckerberg canโt do anything?โ Larry raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical.
โThatโs right,โ Landon nodded.
Landon looked directly at Larry with a clear conscience.
They stared each other down, while Tuff stood off to the side. He was so nervous that he didnโt dare say a word, trying his best to be invisible.
Chapter 357
โFinish this mission, then Iโll sign your resignation,โ Larry said, his tone calm but firm.
Tuff frowned.
Landonโs face clearly showed his displeasure. โMr. Mitchell, youโre making things difficult for me.โ
โLandon, this is a task from the organization,โ Larry said, stroking his beard. โI know itโs hard, but the good of the country comes before everything.โ
โIsnโt Monroe here? Ask him,โ Landon said.
At the mention of Monroe, Larry looked even more helpless. โIf we could get anything out of him, would we even need you?โ
โTry threatening him with Monica. Heโll crack for sure,โ Landon said, his tone firm.
โWe already tried. Didnโt work,โ Larry replied, shaking his head.
โThen you guys didnโt push hard enough!โ Landon snorted. โWhere are they? Iโll handle it myself.โ
Larry raised a hand, signaling Landon to chill out. Stroking his beard, he said slowly, โActually, Monroe added a condition.โ
โWhat condition?โ Landon asked, his voice tense.
โHe says heโll turn over all the tech if you agree to marry Monica.โ
โThatโs out of the question!โ Landon exploded, his anger boiling over. โThe people of the Montgomery family are insane. Theyโre still hung up on me!โ he thought, his fists clenched.
โWait, Monicaโs love spell is broken?โ Tuff cut in, his brow furrowed.
Larry nodded. โYes.โ
โWho broke it?โ Tuff demanded angrily.
Monica was obsessed with love, latching onto anyone she met.
It had taken so much effort to get her to cling to Paul, so how could someone break the spell now?
โWhen we picked her up, she was already back to normal. And sheโs pregnant. Our principle is not to harm the pregnant woman,โ Larry explained.
โSo youโd rather throw your student under the bus instead?โ Tuff sneered. โThatโs some twisted logic youโve got there, Mr. Mitchell.โ
Larryโs face darkened, and he snapped, โTuff!โ
โMr. Mitchell, I know Iโm out of line. Come on, Landon is your student and has done so much for the organization. You know it better than anyone. Ever since he was left incapacitated, he hasnโt had a single peaceful day. Canโt you show him a little mercy for once and let him off the hook?โ Tuff said, his voice thick with frustration.
There was a storm brewing in Larryโs eyes, and he said nothing for a long moment.
Finally, when the air in the coffee room felt thick enough to cut, Larry let out a sigh, saying, โI know you all resent me, but Iโve been doing everything I can to protect you.โ
Chapter 357
Landon was stunned, his eyes turning razorโsharp in an instant. โMr. Mitchell?โ
โCome on, let me show you,โ Larry said, leading the way.
The research department was a key division of the Flying Tiger Sect, and it had relocated to the Project Azureveil facility.
Back then, they even pulled a fast one on the Meyers family using the project.
However, Landon hadnโt set foot in there again after it was completed.
Stepping inside today, Landon was hit by a wave of unfamiliarity and awe.
โMr. Mitchell, Mr. Kingsley!โ The researchers all greeted them with respect.
Larry glanced at Landon. โBeen a while since you got this kind of attention, Landon?โ
โI get that every day at the office,โ Landon replied, sounding completely unfazed.
He wasnโt a kid chasing glory anymore. These days, all he wanted was a simple, content life.
โYouโve gotten less ambitious since you got married,โ Larry remarked.
โItโs not that. When I was in a coma after the car accident, it made me rethink a lot,โ Landon replied.
Larryโs expression grew complicated. โLandon, are you blaming me?โ
โNo. You didnโt even know about the accident back then,โ Landon replied, keeping his voice calm.
On the surface, Landon stayed cool and collected, but he couldnโt help feeling a little uneasy about it inwardly.
His life was hanging by a thread back then.
His mother had to shoulder all the pressure to protect him alone, but she was powerless to save him.
Henryโs family was scheming behind the scenes, hoping Landonโd die so they could snatch up everything for themselves.
Did anyone step in to help him?
Not a soul.
Landon had been abandoned by the whole world.
If Amelia hadnโt suddenly appeared and helped pull him back from the brink, he probably wouldnโt even be alive now.
It wasnโt that he blamed the sect. What he needed emotionally had simply changed.
The life of blood and battle wasnโt for him anymore. All he wanted now was a quiet life with his family.
Let the passion for youngsters.
โLandon, back then, lโฆโ Larry began, but his words trailed off.
Chapter 357
Larry was still trying to explain, but Landon had already zeroed in on Monica and was striding straight toward her.
