Amelia had a restless night. She couldn’t accept the fact that her son had superpowers.
“How could this even happen?” Amelia muttered to herself, completely baffled. ‘Did my time travel glitch out? Not only did I end up with mind-reading abilities, but my son got some hidden powers too?’ she wondered. ‘Or am I just a stepping stone for someone else?’ After all, she could only read Landon’s thoughts, and she’d been surviving and taking down those annoying people all thanks to her ability to read her husband’s mind.
“Was all of this just for Kimsey’s birth?” she wondered.
“Amy, what’s bothering you?” Kayla asked, her voice full of concern. Kayla had barely gotten any sleep herself, and she was in terrible spirits, listless and wilted like a dying plant. Just yesterday, she was energetically searching for her son, but today, she didn’t even have the strength to walk.
“Just like you, I barely slept at all,” Amelia said, forcing a smile.
“Then go get some rest,” Kayla sighed. “Don’t wear yourself out just for my sake.”
“No, I’ll stay with you,” Amelia replied softly. Amelia didn’t just keep her company; she even took on the role of caretaker, handing Kayla some water one minute, slicing up some fruit the next, which was very attentive. Truth was, she wasn’t sleepy, just shaken by hindsight.
Monroe had been searching for people with special abilities, and among all the ones he’d found, Kimsey’s healing powers were without a doubt the most impressive.
‘Back then, Monroe had kidnapped Kimsey!’ Amelia thought. ‘He even carried Kimsey around, teasing him like he was his grandkid. Thank goodness he never realized what Kimsey could do.’ Landon told Amelia to keep Kimsey’s abilities a secret for now. That meant they wouldn’t even use his abilities to help Kayla with her condition, at least for the time being. Last night, she and Landon tried several times, and Kimsey could heal any external injuries without a problem. But they hadn’t tested whether Kimsey could heal internal injuries. Kimsey was still too young. Landon said they should wait until they’d taken down the Mystic Sect for good before letting Kimsey step in. Otherwise, they’d risk failing to heal Kayla while exposing Kimsey’s secret. Luckily, there were still a few days before Kayla’s next period. Amelia just hoped they could finish this whole mess as soon as possible…
“Mrs. Prescott, we have a visitor. He claims to be your brother from Dreicean,” the butler announced.
Maggie happened to pass by the east wing. She grumbled, “Why does she have so many brothers?”
“Don’t you have any siblings, Maggie?” Kayla retorted as she walked out.
Maggie fell silent. Her siblings from her family had done well in recent years, backed by the Prescott family’s influence. Grateful for the kindness, her siblings kept in touch with her and visited her frequently. Right now, one of her brothers’ wives was even asking her to go shopping together.
“Cade, that’s the young master of the Kyle family from Dreicean. Please show him in,” Kayla said to the butler.
Maggie’s expression stiffened slightly. She remembered it now, a striking young man sitting alone at the wedding, ignored by the Kingsley family.
‘Great, another big shot to worry about in the future,’ Maggie thought with a sigh. ‘Whatever, I’ll slip away first.’ Maggie snorted and hurried away.
Aiden came in with Night Owl, passing by Maggie in the hallway. He greeted her politely, “Maggie.”
“Yeah, go ahead!” Maggie said, not sticking around for even a second.
Night Owl muttered, “She’s hiding something.”
“She is not nice to Kayla?” Aiden’s expression changed instantly.
“Whether she is nice to Kayla doesn’t matter; Kayla isn’t the type to let anyone push her around,” Night Owl said thoughtfully. As a hypnotherapist, she had mastered the psychological study of human nature.
‘Kayla’s mother-in-law is no ordinary woman,’ Night Owl thought.
“Let’s go ask Kayla,” Aiden said, speeding up. After working through her worries and getting some proper rest, Night Owl was feeling much better, and she could easily keep up with Aiden now.
When they arrived at the east wing and saw Kayla’s complexion, their faces fell.
“Kayla, are the Prescott family people bullying you?” Aiden asked, concern clear in his voice.
“No, I’m just worried about Landen,” Kayla replied, shaking her head gently.
Amelia grinned. “Relax, no one can get the better of Kayla. So, what brings you two here?”
“He was worried, so he brought me along to lend a hand,” Night Owl said, a faint, knowing smile playing on her cool features.
“How are you feeling?” Kayla asked with concern.
Amelia’s mind drifted back to Kimsey’s healing abilities, and she couldn’t help feeling a bit restless.
“I’m fine now, ready to help out. Where’s Landon?” Night Owl asked, glancing around.
“He and Tuff left early this morning. No idea what they’re up to,” Kayla replied, her heart full of contentment.
‘It’s so good to be home, to have family backing me up. I’m not fighting alone anymore. When things get tough, my family, friends, and husband are always the ones leading the charge,’ Kayla thought.
“Kayla, don’t worry. Landen called me. That kid’s smart. He’s already got that guy’s trust. He’s safe for now,” Aiden said.
Amelia gave a cold chuckle. “He threatened you again, right?”
“Yeah, he wants control of the Kington Gang and the Kyle family’s money. So I guess he doesn’t have many people on his side, and he’s short on cash,” Aiden explained, and everyone perked up at his analysis.
‘Short on people and broke, Jonny’s not going to cause any trouble now,’ they all thought.
After a short break, Aiden took Night Owl with him and set off for Project Azureveil to meet up with Landon. Amelia let out a long sigh of relief and smiled. “Kayla, Landen will be coming home real soon.”
