Chapter 390

โ€œIโ€™ll hire someone to help you. Just be more careful from now on,โ€ Maggie said, barely keeping her frustration in check.

Joyce, not missing a beat, pushed her luck. โ€œSo, will you come visit me often, Maggie?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Maggie replied, jaw tight.

Joyce finally looked satisfied. โ€œThanks, Maggie.โ€

It wouldnโ€™t really make sense to have the Prescott familyโ€™s staff take care of Joyce.

So Maggie, ever the strategist, hired two people from outside: a nutritionist and a cleaner.

What she didnโ€™t realize was that she was falling into another trap again.

Just a few days after the contracts were signed, copies landed right on Kaylaโ€™s desk.

Then, Joyce called. โ€œKayla, thanks for working so hard to support me. Maggieโ€™s been taking great care of me for the sake of her future grandchild.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s the least I can do,โ€ Kayla replied.

She was already used to Maggieโ€™s muddled ways and didnโ€™t feel the slightest bit annoyed.

Instead, her calm reaction left Joyce completely at a loss.

โ€œKayla, are you crazy or something?โ€ Joyce blurted out.

โ€œNo,โ€ Kayla replied.

โ€œThen whatโ€™s with that attitude?โ€ Joyce pressed.

โ€œA wife should be virtuousโ€“and Iโ€™ve got that part down. A mistress is supposed to be beautiful, but you donโ€™t even qualify. So I guess youโ€™ll just have to make do with being useful,โ€ Kayla shot back, her words smooth but cutting.

Sheโ€™d just called Joyce uglyโ€“without even using a single harsh word.

Joyce gritted her teeth in frustration. โ€œYou seriously donโ€™t care that Iโ€™m hooking up with Tuff?โ€

โ€œOf course I care,โ€ Kayla said coolly.

โ€œBut then whyโ€ฆโ€

Kaylaโ€™s voice was laced with meaning. โ€œYou know better than anyone who youโ€™re getting in bed with, Joyce. Donโ€™t test my patience. Just focus on checking out Harmony Estates.โ€

Joyce broke out in a cold sweat.

โ€˜How does Kayla know about Harmony Estates? Whatโ€™s she getting at?โ€˜ Joyce thought, her mind racing.

Before Joyce could get a word in, Kayla had already hung up impatiently and gone back to handling official business.

The Kingsley family was famous, and now that the Lunova branch was finally on track, business was so good that Kayla barely had time to rest.

โ€œSo, youโ€™re finally ready to stop holding back?โ€ Aaron leaned in, eyes gleaming with mischief, practically itching to get started.

โ€œThe holidays are coming up. Letโ€™s stir things up for the Lambert familyโ€“give them something to talk about. If youโ€™re bored, go have some fun,โ€ Kayla replied, her tone light but with an unmistakable edge.

โ€œOn it!โ€ Aaron replied eagerly.

He rubbed his hands together in anticipation.

โ€˜Awesome! Looks like thereโ€™s hope Iโ€™ll get to spend the holidays back in Lunova!โ€˜ he thought, barely able to contain his excitement.

Landon had laid down the law, and Aaron wasnโ€™t allowed to go home until heโ€™d handled the whole Joyce situation. Heโ€™d been itching to get back for ages, and now, finally, it looked like his patience was about to pay off.

Meanwhile, as soon as Joyce hung up, she rushed straight to the Harmony Estates.

Porter and Lennon had just stepped outside when they spotted a pregnant woman heading up to the seventh floor. The two shared a look. The woman looked like Tuffโ€™s mistress.

โ€˜Damn, sheโ€™s already got a belly on her,โ€™ Porter thought.

โ€˜And Kaylaโ€™s just letting this slide?โ€˜ he wondered.

โ€˜Is this some kind of Kingsley family tradition or what?โ€˜ Porter mused, a hint of sarcasm in his mind.

His gaze grew cold.

If Landon ever got another woman pregnant, he definitely wouldnโ€™t stand for it.

โ€œHey, I think I saw that woman at Tuffโ€™s wedding,โ€ Lennon said, breaking the silence.

Porterโ€™s scowl deepened.

โ€˜Bringing his mistress to the wedding? Thatโ€™s bold. Tuffโ€™s got some nerve!โ€˜ Porter thought, jaw clenched.

โ€œMr. Zuckerberg, should I go up and take a look? She wonโ€™t recognize me anyway,โ€ Lennon suggested.

โ€œGo ahead. And record a video while youโ€™re at it,โ€ Porter said.

โ€œThatโ€™s right.โ€

Porter wondered to himself, โ€˜Now that thereโ€™ll be a video, should I let Amy know?โ€˜

Joyce swept the room with a little gadget, just like she did when hunting for hidden cameras in a hotel.

She was in such a rush. She didnโ€™t even bother closing the front door behind her.

Lennon hesitated. โ€˜Should I just watch from here, or should I go inside?โ€˜

His conscience stopped him short. โ€˜Better just watch from out here.โ€˜

Following Porterโ€™s orders, Lennon held up his phone and got a clear shot of Joyce tearing through the place, catching every move.

Joyce, her hair a mess and darting around the room, looked downright ridiculous.

Lennon burst out laughing. โ€œHahaโ€ฆโ€

โ€œWhoโ€™s there?โ€ Joyce spun around, startled.

When she saw it was just an unfamiliar boy, she finally relaxed a little and asked, โ€œWho are you?โ€

โ€œI live downstairs, across from you. I saw your door open and thought someone mightโ€™ve broken in,โ€ Lennon lied smoothly, pocketing his phone.

โ€œDelete that video!โ€ Joyce snapped, her anger barely contained.

โ€œSure, just prove you own the place,โ€ Lennon shot back.

Joyce was left speechless.

This wasnโ€™t even her houseโ€“if she wanted to prove she was the owner, sheโ€™d have to get the real landlord involved.

But if she did that, it would just expose that she and the real owner were having an affair.

Because of Kayla, she was already a bit infamous now. If anyone started tailing her, sheโ€™d be totally screwed.

โ€œIf you canโ€™t prove it, I canโ€™t delete the video. What if the real owner reports this to the police? Iโ€™ll have to hand it over,โ€ Lennon said firmly.

Joyce took a deep breath and asked, โ€œYou saw me, right? I wasnโ€™t stealing anything.โ€

โ€œThen what are you looking for?โ€ Lennon pressed.

โ€œThis is my relativeโ€™s place. I mustโ€™ve forgotten something here last time,โ€ Joyce said, trying to play it cool.

โ€œSo you gotta crawl around on the floor, searching every inch for it?โ€ Lennon asked, eyebrow raised.

โ€œYeah, itโ€™s tiny,โ€ Joyce replied, her voice tight.

โ€œWant me to help? That way, neither of us looks like a thief,โ€ Lennon offered, stepping inside with a friendly grin.

Joyce was left speechless.

โ€˜Whatever, heโ€™s just some random guy,' she thought to herself.

Joyce just wanted to check for hidden cameras as fast as possible, so she said to Lennon, โ€œItโ€™s a diamond stud, super sparkly.โ€

โ€œAlright.โ€

Lennon dropped to the floor and started fake-searching right along with her.

The place had a really unique setupโ€“aside from the bathroom and kitchen, it was all one big space.

The living room and bedroom werenโ€™t even separated by walls, just a couch marking the boundary.

One couldnโ€™t miss itโ€“a huge bed right in the middle, plain as day.

Lennon had never laid eyes on a bed that enormous before. He found himself gawking, unable to look away.

โ€œAh-!โ€ Joyce let out a startled yelp.

She suddenly collapsed onto the floor.

โ€œHey, are you okay?โ€ Lennon hurried over.

Joyce was gripping something small and black in her hand. Lennon recognized it instantly. It was a hidden camera.

It all made sense to Lennon now.

What Kayla was doing that night was setting up this camera.

He found her move so impressive. Someone was right there in the room, yet she could still install things without making a sound.

โ€œItโ€™s over, itโ€™s overโ€ฆโ€ Joyce muttered, her voice barely above a whisper, looking completely drained.

โ€œNeed a hand?โ€ Lennon offered, sounding genuinely helpful.

Joyce opened her palm, looking completely drained. โ€œCan you help me see if there are any more of these things?โ€

โ€œNo problem,โ€ Lennon replied.

Lennon started looking around the room.

โ€˜Holy crap! There are four more!โ€˜ Lennon thought, shocked. โ€œThis place is wired for 360-degree surveillanceโ€“no way toโ€ฆ
