Chapter 392
Tuff froze, completely stunned.
โDid I really get her pregnant that night?โ Tuff couldnโt help but doubt himself.
โNo way. I was way too drunk to do anything. And when I realized something was off, my clothes were still on,โ he thought.
โBesides, I even called the cops myself!โ Tuff reminded himself.
โWait a minute!โ Tuff suddenly felt a chill run down his spine, his whole body tensing up.
Joyce is a doctor. Even if I wasnโt able to perform that night, she couldโve still found a way to get my sperm and used artificial insemination or somethingโฆ Tuffโs mind spun with wild possibilities.
โShit! My whole reputation is going down the drain!โ he panicked.
โIโm totally innocent, but now everyoneโs going to think Iโm guilty!โ Tuff fumed, feeling completely wronged.
He didnโt even need Kayla to blow up. He couldnโt accept this outcome himself. Tuff felt utterly defeated.
โTuffโฆโ Maggie saw the look on her sonโs face and quickly reached out, holding onto him tightly.
A smug glint flashed in Joyceโs tearโfilled eyes.
โThank God I planned ahead!โ she thought, feeling a wave of relief wash over her.
As long as Tuff gave in, everything else was easy. But this baby? No way she was keeping it.
โWhat if Tuff suddenly wants another DNA test one day?โ she fretted, anxiety gnawing at her.
โDoctorโฆโ Joyce blinked rapidly, trying to signal the doctor to hurry up and take her for the procedure.
But the new attending doctor said, โMs. Lambert, thereโs no need to worry. Youโre not going to be having an abortion.โ
โWhat?โ Joyce was completely stunned.
โDidnโt we agree on this?โ she thought, panic rising in her chest.
โMs. Lambert, youโre in great shape, and the baby is tough too! Weโll wait and see if thereโs any bleeding,โ the doctor said, giving Joyce a reassuring pat. โIโve already given you a sedative. Just sleep it off, youโll be fine.โ
Joyce was shocked.
The sedative hit fast, and Joyce felt her strength draining away. She shot her parents a desperate look, begging for help.
โDad, Mom, I canโt have this baby! Hurry, get me out of here. Take me to get an abortion!โ she pleaded inwardly, panic written all over her face.
But her parents had no idea what she really wanted.
Since the doctor said there was no risk of miscarriage, they felt completely at ease.
Once the baby was born, Tuff would have to take care of Joyceโs future, and the Lambert family could cling to the Prescott family and live off them for the rest of their lives.
โThis is the Prescott familyโs child. The Prescotts have no choice but to accept it!" they thought, feeling triumphant.
The doctor gave Tuff a gentle, almost fatherly smile. โMr. Prescottโฆโ
Tuff was startled, shouting, โItโs not mine!โ
โTuff, what are you doing?โ Maggie clung to him, refusing to let go. โItโs too late for regrets. Just go along with it! Iโll talk to Kayla and smooth things overโฆโ
โTalk about what? I donโt owe anyone an explanation!โ Tuff shot back, clearly pissed.
โJoyce said sheโll take care of the kid herself, and she wonโt bother us or anythingโฆโ Maggie tried to calm him down.
โThatโs the dumbest excuse Iโve ever heard!โ Tuff snapped, his eyes blazing with fury.
Tuffโs eyes blazed with rage. He looked downright terrifying.
Joyceโs parents both moved to block her bed, making sure Tuff couldnโt get close enough to lay a hand on her.
โMaggie, which hospital did you get this report from?โ Kayla walked in, a little late but with unmistakable authority.
She wore a tailored suit, her long hair swept up in a bun, making her look commanding and gorgeous.
Maggie looked miserable and whispered, โI had my suspicions too, so I secretly went to see an obstetricianโฆโ
โIs it her?โ Kayla asked.
Kayla stepped aside, and Aaron hauled a doctor in a white coat up to the front.
Maggieโs eyes went wide in shock. โDr. Walsh?โ
โMrs. Prescott, Iโm so sorry!โ Orlando Walsh stammered, his whole body shaking. โThe report I gave you was completely fakeโฆโ
Maggie felt like sheโd been struck by lightning.
โI never actually ran any DNA test. Ms. Lambert told me to forge the whole thingโฆโ Orlando confessed, voice trembling.
Tuff, whoโd been so furious and helpless that he wanted to punch himself, finally managed to cool down a bit when he heard this.
โSo the whole report was a fake? I nearly wanted to end it all for nothing!โ he thought, a wave of relief crashing over him.
โHoneyโฆโ Tuff walked over to Kayla, his eyes red and on the verge of tears.
He actually felt like crying this time.
If Kayla hadnโt seen through everything, Joyce wouldโve totally set him up and ruined him.
Heโd already pictured Kaylaโs furious face a hundred times in his mind, each time backing himself into a corner with no way out, convinced sheโd never forgive him.
โYouโre such a dummy,โ Kayla said with a fond smile, pulling Tuff into a hug.
He got framed and was not even able to clear his name. No wonder Tuff was losing it.
Joyce had been sedated, but her mind was still sharp as a tack. She caught every word around her, clear as day.
When Kayla first walked in, Joyce was actually pretty happy.
But the moment Orlando showed up, Joyce knew that her plan had completely fallen apart.
โHow the hell did Kayla even find Orlando? She didnโt even know about the fake report! How did everything go so wrong?โ Joyce thought, her mind racing with panic.
โCurious, arenโt you, Joyce?โ Kayla said, letting go of Tuff and striding right up to her.
Her high heels echoed through the room, each step crisp and sharp.
Every sound was like a drumbeat, striking at Joyceโs nerves.
She tensed up, but she couldnโt move or say a word.
Finally, it hit her that this wasnโt just any sedative. Sheโd been drugged.
โThat attending doctor is shady! Iโve been drugged!โ Joyce realized with a jolt, panic and fury mixing in her mind.
โWho are you? Stay away from my daughter. Sheโs not well, sheโs sedated,โ Brylee said, stepping protectively in front of Kayla, her guard up.
Kayla replied, โIโm Kayla Kingsley, Tuffโs lawfully wedded wife.โ
Xzavier just snorted and turned his head away, not saying a word.
Brylee demanded, โWhat are you trying to do?โ
โWhy donโt you tell me what you think Iโm here for?โ Kayla shot back, her voice cool and challenging.
Everyoneโs seen those viral videos of wives going after mistresses lately, so Brylee was freaking out. She looked at Maggie, panicked, and said, โMrs. Prescott, arenโt you going to step in?โ
Maggie was way too embarrassed to step in.
Besides, she was so mad at Joyce she was about to blow a fuse.
Every time she called out, nobody answered. The whole room was dead silent.
โRelax. Iโm not really the type to throw punches,โ Kayla said, a hint of sarcasm curling her lips.
But just as Brylee let her guard down, Kaylaโs smile sharpened. โOf course, if you really piss me off, I might just make you disappear.โ
โYou wouldnโt dare!โ Brylee shrieked, her voice highโpitched with panic.
Xzavier shot up too, glaring at Kayla with all the intensity he could muster.
It was like he thought if he stared hard enough, heโd suddenly turn into some kind of tough guy.
Tuff just shook his head, at a complete loss for words.
โDominick, are your sister and parents really like this?โ Tuff thought, feeling a wave of disbelief and disappointment.
โThereโs nothing I wouldnโt dare,โ Kayla said, her voice icy. โJoyce, I know you can hear me. So, can you guess how I found out about your secret hookup and the fake DNA report you tried to fool Maggie with?โ
Joyce couldnโt utter a sound, but she was burning with curiosity.
โWhy? Why?โ she screamed inwardly.
โDoes Kayla have some kind of superpower? This is Lunova, not the Kingsleys' turf!โ Joyce thought, panic rising. โHow the hell did she pull this off here?โ
โIโve actually had spy training,โ Kayla revealed, dropping a bombshell that left everyone reeling.
But it was Maggie who looked the most shaken, her face going pale.
โNo wayโฆ Kayla was trained as a spy?โ Maggie thought, her mind spinning.
She hurried over and whispered urgently, โDonโt talk nonsense. This isnโt something to joke about!โ
โThatโs why Iโm pretty good at both spying and counterโspying,โ Kayla added, her tone casual but deadly serious.
Joyce felt her blood run cold.
She had no doubt Kayla was telling the truth.
She was utterly crushedโdefeated in every way.
Kayla had seen right through her from the start, but instead of confronting her, sheโd just led her around.
No, it wasnโt just like that.
Kayla really was playing her for a fool.
Joyce was that pitiful, selfโimportant fool who thought she was so cleverโฆ.
โOh, right, you canโt talk right now. Doctor, could you please give her the antidote?โ Kayla said with a casual, almost indifferent smile, like nothing could faze her.
The attending doctor, whoโd been watching intently, took out an ampoule and mixed it into Joyceโs IV drip.
Soon enough, Joyce could move again.
She opened her eyes and looked at Kayla, utterly desperate.
Everyone in the room was silent. Even her own parents didnโt know what to say.
Tears brimmed in Joyceโs eyes as she forced her lips to move, her voice hoarse and trembling. โWhy? Why are you doing this to me?โ
