Chapter 411

Tuff never expected Brian to make such a request. There was nothing in it for him!

โ€œWhat? Not willing?โ€ Brian arched a brow, clearly annoyed by Tuffโ€™s hesitation.

Tuff hurriedly said, โ€œNo, itโ€™s not thatโ€ฆโ€

โ€œThen quit,โ€ Brian said flatly.

โ€œAlright,โ€ Tuff finally agreed.

He knew Brian wasnโ€™t out for revenge. He just wanted Kayla to have a normal life.

Staying in the field meant taking on missions where bullets could fly at any moment. It was seriously dangerous.

But honestly, Tuff couldโ€™ve put up with some pretty unreasonable demands.

For example, paying back the Shawn family for their financial losses, or handing over those old Limitless Sect relics heโ€™d confiscated back in the day.

โ€œGoodbye,โ€ Brian said.

He hoisted Dally over his shoulder and walked off into the night.

Tuff stood there, conflicted emotions churning inside him.

โ€˜How unlucky that heโ€™s Malakaiโ€™s son,โ€™ Tuff thought.

โ€œShould we get him a ride?โ€ Tuff asked.

โ€œNo need, heโ€™s already got one,โ€ Landon said, gesturing ahead.

Suddenly, headlights lit up just a dozen feet away.

Damn! There were actually five cars waiting.

Earlier, it was pitch dark, and those cars were all black with their lights off. No wonder Tuff hadnโ€™t spotted them.

Now it wasnโ€™t just cars. There were people too.

Seven or eight guys in black tracksuits hopped out and lined up respectfully, waiting for orders.

โ€œAre theyโ€ฆ Limitless Sect guys?โ€ Tuff nearly fainted.

โ€˜If the Limitless Sect was still kicking, did that mean the Flying Tiger Sect would have to go after them again? No, please, not again!โ€™ Tuff groaned inwardly.

I just canโ€™t do it anymore, Tuff thought, the weight of it all pressing down on him.

โ€œDonโ€™t hurt him anymoreโ€ฆโ€ Kayla tugged at Tuffโ€™s sleeve, her voice soft and weary, pleading with him.

Maybe the Limitless Sect had committed countless crimes, but to her, she owed them everything.

โ€œAlright,โ€ Tuff said, squeezing her hand tightly. โ€œIโ€™ll hand in my resignation tomorrow.โ€

The mess that shouldโ€™ve ended in bloodshed just fizzled out with Brian showing up.

The four of them squeezed into a car, with Landon behind the wheel.

Dark clouds gathered overhead, swallowing the moon. Soon, tiny snowflakes began to fall.

They danced and swirled in the headlights, like moths drawn to a flame.

Everyone was silent.

Nobody knew what to say.

Brian had really put them through it tonight.

It wasnโ€™t until the car pulled up outside their place that Landon finally asked, โ€œHeading back?โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€

He got out first, then helped Kayla out.

Home was exactly what they needed right now.

Afraid she might get cold, Tuff gently took the thin blanket from Landonโ€™s car and wrapped it around his Honeyโ€™s shoulders.

โ€œKayla, go home and get some sleep. Iโ€™ll come hang out with you tomorrow,โ€ Amelia said, waving as she left.

Kayla nodded.

She tried to smile, but it looked more like she was about to burst into tears than anything happy.

Amelia felt a deep ache in her chest and hurriedly rolled up the window.

Otherwise, she knew she wouldnโ€™t be able to hold her smile any longer.

As she watched Tuff and Kayla walk into their home, Ameliaโ€™s face completely crumpled. โ€œHoney, this hurts so muchโ€ฆโ€

โ€œItโ€™s alright,โ€ Landon said gently, gesturing for her to come closer.

Amelia unbuckled her seatbelt and leaned her head on Landonโ€™s shoulder, tears falling silently down her cheeks.

She wasnโ€™t the type to cry, and honestly, she couldnโ€™t even remember the last time she did.

But tonight, it just hurt too much to hold it in.

The weight of Brianโ€™s kindness was suffocating. They all felt like they could barely breathe.

Brian was so good, and yet he was all alone, no parents, no place to call home.

Even his only brother, Dally, couldnโ€™t stand the sight of him anymore.

When Dally finally woke up, no one knew what kind of drama heโ€™d stir up with Brian.

โ€œThe only thing keeping Dally going is pure hatred,โ€ Landon said, finally pulling up Dallyโ€™s file.

Amelia leaned over. โ€œLet me see too.โ€

Dally was thirty-one now. After the Limitless Sect collapsed, he drifted through various international gangs, picking up skills like marksmanship. Right before the New Year, he tried to assassinate Tuffโ€™s father in Dreicean but failed, then tracked him all the way to Lunovaโ€ฆ

โ€œHeโ€™s incredibly composed and seriously tough,โ€ Landon remarked. โ€œIf the Limitless Sect was still around, heโ€™d be a top-tier spy.โ€

โ€œBut Brian took him downโ€ฆโ€ Amelia suddenly chimed in, reminding Landon.

โ€˜So what does that say? Brianโ€™s even tougher than Dally!โ€™ she thought, a bit in awe. โ€˜Brian really is the hidden master here.โ€™

โ€œOr maybe he just used a sedative? Donโ€™t forget, Brianโ€™s a doctor,โ€ Landon said with a small grin, ruffling Ameliaโ€™s hair. โ€œCome on, letโ€™s go home too.โ€

Joyce was a nervous wreck all night. She popped some sleeping pills but still kept waking up in a cold sweat.

With Kayla snatched away by Dally, that meant Tuff was all hers now.

Not that she had a clue who Dally even was.

She tossed and turned until dawn, then finally decided to call Maggie. โ€œMrs. Prescottโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDo you need something else?โ€ Maggie replied, her tone perfectly calm.

โ€œDid Kayla take the necklace back?โ€ Joyce asked.

โ€œOf course she did. You gave it to her, didnโ€™t you?โ€ Maggie snapped.

Now, all Maggie felt for Joyce was pure disgust.

โ€œGood,โ€ Joyce sighed in relief.

Joyce still had the emerald necklace on her, but Maggie thought Kayla had already taken it home.

Obviously, Maggie had no clue Kayla had been kidnapped.

Probably because of her second hospital stay for her leg, they were hiding it from her so she wouldnโ€™t worry.

Joyce thought, โ€˜Dally is wildโ€“practically an animal with how strong his desires were. If Kayla ended up with him, thereโ€™s no way sheโ€™d come out of that unscathed.โ€™

For all Joyce cared, Kayla was probably dead by now. She snickered to herself, feeling absolutely gleeful.

Pretending to care, she asked, โ€œIs Tuff with you?โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s busy with work,โ€ Maggie said, her voice going cold. โ€œCan you just stop pestering him already?โ€

Once she got what she wanted, Joyce hung up.

โ€œAnnoying brat!โ€ Maggie grumbled, blocked her right away, and tossed her phone aside.

It was eleven oโ€™clock. By this time, Kayla would usually have brought her lunch. But today, there was no sign of her.

Thinking back to Joyceโ€™s odd call, Maggie started to worry and quickly called Kayla.

After a few rings, someone finally picked up.

โ€œMomโ€ฆโ€ It was Tuff.

He sounded half-asleep.

Maggie chuckled. โ€œOh, never mind. You two go back to sleep.โ€

Tuff was speechless. โ€˜Mom, seriously? Youโ€™re ruining my sleep!โ€™

He turned his head, and sure enough, Kayla was already awake.

She looked totally spaced out, like she was completely out of it.

Tuffโ€™s heart ached. โ€œHoney, itโ€™s still early. Go back to sleep.โ€

โ€œWhere did Brian go?โ€ Kayla asked softly, still in a daze.

โ€œLet me give him a call,โ€ Tuff said, already reaching for his phone.

But Kayla stopped him. โ€œItโ€™s fine, donโ€™t worry about it.โ€

โ€œHoneyโ€ฆโ€ Tuff murmured.

โ€œIโ€™ll go find him myself in a few days,โ€ Kayla said quietly.

โ€œSure, Iโ€™ll go with you,โ€ Tuff replied.

Tuff lay back down and pulled Kayla into his arms. โ€œItโ€™s snowing outside. Letโ€™s just snuggle up and stay warm."

โ€œAre you really quitting?โ€ Kayla asked, her head resting on his chest.

โ€œOf course,โ€ Tuff replied without hesitation.

Heโ€™d already made up his mind last night. He was quitting, heading home, and taking over everything with the family business. No more getting mixed up in all that chaos.

That way, Brian could finally relax, and Kayla wouldnโ€™t have to worry anymore.

Now he really got why Landon was so determined to quit. Love and family were way sweeter than any of that wild underworld life.

โ€œHoney, Iโ€™m really sorry I dragged you into all thisโ€ฆโ€ Kayla mumbled, sounding super guilty.

โ€œThen pay me back with your body! You on top, Iโ€™ll just lie back,โ€ Tuff shot back, grinning wickedly.

Her cheeks turned bright red as she smacked his chest. โ€œIโ€™m trying to be serious here!โ€

โ€œI am serious! Last night totally wore me out. Iโ€™m not moving an inch. If youโ€™re on top, I can just chill,โ€ Tuff said, looking all innocent while his hands started wandering.

Kayla was in no mood for his antics right now.

Her anger gave her a sudden burst of energy. She shoved him aside, jumped out of bed, and started getting dressed.

โ€œHoney?โ€ Tuff called out, confused.

โ€œYouโ€™re tired? Fine, sleep. Iโ€™m going to go settle things with Joyce!โ€ Kayla snapped, storming off.
