Chapter 21
Today, Lauren brought a gift for Leo, but Charlie's sudden appearance prevented her from giving it to him immediately. After she and Leo finished their activities and washed their hands and feet, they sat on the sofa in Leo's bedroom. Lauren then took the gift from her bag.
"Wow!" Leo exclaimed, surprised, his head snapping up, bright eyes fixed on Lauren with anticipation.
Lauren took the gift bag and placed it on the sofa. Leo was so excited; he couldn't wait to see what was inside. Lauren took out the gift and handed it to him. "This is for you."
"All?" Leo asked, surprised and excited.
Lauren had given many gifts before, but this was the first time she felt such fulfillment. Her heart swelled with happiness seeing Leo's joy.
"Yes," Lauren nodded. "I don't know what you like, so I bought all of these for you. See if you like them?"
Leo looked at the gifts, his face radiating happiness. "As long as they're from you, I'll like them."
Touched, Lauren hugged him. "Why are you so cute?"
Leo blinked his beautiful eyes, his happiness evident. He thought happily, "Lauren likes me!"
Lauren had spent the afternoon with Leo and initially wanted to stay longer, but the thought of Charlie made her decide to leave before dinner. Leo, not wanting her to go, held her hands at the door for a long time.
To prevent Leo from crying, Lauren said, "If you cry, you won't be so cute anymore."
The Bennett family villa was far from the city center, with few cars nearby. Lauren stood at the gate for a moment, then hailed a ride-sharing car using her phone.
Lauren usually stayed in the laboratory and rarely went out. The company provided transportation for urgent matters, so she'd never felt the need to own a car. However, she now considered buying one so she could visit Leo whenever she wanted and take him out. She chuckled to herself.
A silver-gray Porsche stopped in front of her. Mistaking it for her ride-share, Lauren, without a second thought, opened the back door and sat down. The car didn't move.
Looking up, she saw Charlie in the driver's seat! He wasn't wearing his pink shirt, but a white one, the absence of a suit jacket revealing a firm chest. His arms rested on the steering wheel.
He glanced at her through the rearview mirror and sneered. "Am I your driver, Miss Bennett?"
Lauren realized her mistake and felt apologetic. Charlie clearly misunderstood.
"I'm sorry," she explained. "I thought it was my ride-share." She reached for the door handle to get out.
Before she could open the door, a sharp click sounded—Charlie had locked it!
Lauren looked at him, confused. "It was a mistake, Mr. Frank!"
"I'll take you home," Charlie said, stepping on the accelerator.
Lauren thanked him, and they drove in silence. Though usually calm, she felt unusually anxious. The lack of traffic didn't help; Charlie drove exceptionally slowly. Though lacking a driver's license, Lauren knew the car's speed was deliberately low.
