Chapter 22
Who drove at 20 mph on a wide road? However, Charlie wasn't Lauren's driver, so she wouldn't ask him to adjust his speed. She could only take out her phone and cancel the order.
Lauren blamed herself for being distracted; otherwise, she wouldn't have gotten into Charlie's car without checking the license plate.
Noticing Lauren staring at her phone, Charlie said coldly, "Do you really consider me your driver?"
Still preoccupied with getting into the wrong car, Lauren replied, "Yes."
Charlie smiled and softened, saying, "It's okay. Maybe you just don't like me and have no topics to discuss, so you'd rather be on your phone. My bad. I'm just not as cute as Leo."
Lauren remained silent.
Too tired to explain, Lauren let Charlie stew in his anger. Then her phone rang—a call from her grandfather. She answered.
He'd been fishing with an acquaintance who had an excellent grandson, and the idea of matchmaking his granddaughter occurred to him.
"Lauren, I wanted to ask you something," Mr. Bennett Sr. said.
"Okay."
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
"I don't have a boyfriend," Lauren shook her head.
Mr. Bennett continued, "Have you been in a relationship before? What kind of man do you like?"
Lauren smiled. "I've never been in a relationship. As for men, I like them to be gentle and good-tempered." Knowing her grandfather was about to set her up, Lauren kept her answer simple.
She'd never considered falling in love, but after meeting Leo, marriage didn't seem so bad. She wanted a cute baby like Leo.
"Any other requirements?" Mr. Bennett asked.
As Lauren was about to answer, the car lurched forward, her head hitting the back of the front seat. Charlie had suddenly accelerated!
Lauren rubbed her forehead. The speedometer read 80 mph. She found Charlie's behavior strange.
"Grandpa, I'm busy. I'll talk later," Lauren said, hanging up. Looking at Charlie, she said, "Mr. Frank, please pull over. I'll take a taxi."
"Why? Because I'm driving too slowly? Can't wait to get back for your date?" Charlie retorted, frowning.
Lauren frowned, responding impatiently, "It's none of your business, Mr. Bennett."
The car screeched to a halt. He's crazy! Lauren thought.
"You can leave now," Charlie said coldly.
After Lauren exited, Charlie angrily slammed the steering wheel. He couldn't understand why Lauren claimed she'd never been in a relationship. Had she forgotten him? Did he mean nothing to her?
