Chapter 30

“If you leave now, what about Darren?” Sally anxiously grabbed Lauren’s arm. Lauren sneered, “It’s none of my business,” dodging Sally’s grip.

Sally leaned forward, took a few steps, and fell. Darren immediately pulled her up with one hand, raising the other to slap Lauren. His face was red, his chest heaving with anger. He looked at Lauren with disgust.

Darren’s reaction clearly showed his contempt for Lauren; he treated her like a slave. While this wasn't Lauren's fault, Darren blamed her nonetheless.

The moment Darren raised his hand, Lauren’s eyes turned cold. Had they truly believed her weak? Since arriving, she had endured their treatment; even Darren’s previous attempts to hurt her had gone unchallenged. Instantly, she threw her backpack at Darren’s face.

He was stunned. For the first time in years, someone had struck him. Panicked but reacting quickly due to years of martial arts training, he raised his leg to kick Lauren. Wearing leather shoes, a kick from him could seriously injure her.

Such a ruthless man!

Lauren’s pupils narrowed, her observation of his expression suggesting she was assessing his intent. The kick never landed; she simply used her backpack to block it. After tossing the backpack onto the bed, she picked up Sally.

Sally, somehow now in the corridor, had been pushed out. Anxious and unsure what to do, she received a call. Recognizing the number, she answered, “Mom, didn’t I tell you not to call me while I’m at the Bennetts?”

The caller was Sally’s biological mother, Mona Tyler. Sally wasn’t an orphan adopted by Mr. Bennett; she was his illegitimate daughter with Mona.
