Chapter 41
Kelly's eyes widened, and she thought, "Can I take back everything I just said?"
Seeing Kelly's stillness, Lauren raised her head and glanced at her. Quickly understanding the situation, Lauren said, "I'll be finished very soon."
Lauren's gentle demeanor prompted Kelly to look curiously at the literature. Embarrassed, Kelly said, "I thought it was in English."
"Much of it has been translated," Lauren nodded. "But I prefer watching the original." Lauren explained that she felt she might lose information watching the translated version.
Kelly glanced at Lauren's desk and asked, "How many languages do you speak?"
Lauren paused, then said, "Seven or eight."
Kelly was speechless. She realized Lauren was exceptionally intelligent.
"Do you have any good learning methods?" Kelly asked. She assumed Lauren must employ some special technique.
Lauren, however, simply replied, "Memorizing words," explaining that she learned languages step-by-step.
Finding foreign words difficult to memorize, Kelly pressed, "Do you have any good ways to memorize words?"
Lauren nodded; it was a frequently asked question.
Kelly was delighted. "Great! I can finally learn a good method!" she thought.
Lauren said, "You can't just read the words once."
Kelly agreed; repetition was key.
Lauren continued, "Watch it twice, and you'll remember."
Kelly was awestruck by Lauren's talent. She seemed to achieve goals effortlessly.
Finding herself with nothing to do and wanting to avoid disturbing Lauren, Kelly sat in a corner to play Sudoku on her phone. The game became increasingly difficult, and Kelly decided she needed pen and paper. She shifted her position, intending to continue, when she saw Lauren standing and approaching.
"Are we leaving now?" Kelly stood up quickly.
Lauren nodded.
Kelly quickly showed Lauren her phone, saying, "It's so difficult!"
Lauren glanced at it, took the phone, entered a few numbers, and said, "Let's go." It took less than half a minute! Kelly was astonished as Lauren walked toward the door, carrying gifts.
Watching her phone, Kelly marveled at how easily Lauren had solved a problem that had plagued her for so long.
