Chapter 60
“So far, there’s nothing wrong with Lauren, but that doesn’t mean anything,” Theresa thought, raising her eyebrows. She believed that if a person were powerful enough, they could know everything in the world, but that wasn’t true. She believed Jeffery’s investigation was insufficient; there had to be something they didn’t know about Lauren. Therefore, Theresa didn’t believe Sally, and neither did Dana and Lisa. They didn’t believe Lauren was a simple woman.
Since Lauren was seen in a man’s luxury car, there must have been a reason. Theresa had an idea. “Maybe we can ask a private investigator to keep an eye on Lauren and Herman.”
Lisa glared at Theresa. “Are you crazy? If Herman finds out…”
Theresa’s face paled. Realizing she’d gone too far, she quickly said, “I’m just kidding.”
Dana frowned. “If Lauren really has a relationship with Herman, we’ll know.”
Lisa, Dana, and Theresa stayed until after seven o’clock. Sally didn’t leave with them but returned to her room to rest.
Before Lauren’s return to the Bennett family, Sally had been wary, but in recent days, her apprehension had faded. Lauren was completely different from Sally’s expectations; she was remarkably cool and calm, seemingly unconcerned about anything. Even though the Bennetts were one of the most powerful families, Lauren moved out and hadn’t been seen for over half a month, acting as if she had nothing to do with them. Lately, Sally sometimes forgot about Lauren.
Jeffery rarely came home, due to his heavy workload, so Sally often heard his name mentioned. Lauren was different; she had no involvement with the Bennett family. She didn’t live there and didn’t work for the company. Even the company shares Grandpa gave her were entrusted to Jeffery.
Sally was confused. Didn’t Lauren care about money at all? Holding her pillow, Sally’s mind raced; unable to find an answer, she called her mother, Mona.
Deep down, Sally looked down on Mona, considering her simple-minded and reckless, but admitted Mona possessed excellent intuition. While not intelligent, Mona had good instincts. The reason Mona had stayed with Mr. Bennett for so many years was her ability to act decisively in critical moments.
