Chapter 71
“Don’t worry, I won’t go too far. I’ll just warn her not to be so greedy,” Sandy said coldly.
At that moment, the sound of footsteps startled Lauren and Sandy, who were hiding behind the tree. They turned to see Kelly running toward Lauren. “Lauren, why haven’t you gone into the house yet?” Kelly asked.
Sally and Sandy’s eyes widened. Sally’s face went pale. It was Lauren! Had she heard their conversation?
Sandy grabbed Sally’s trembling hand and offered silent comfort. Even if Lauren had heard them, what could she do? Calling her greedy wasn’t inherently wrong. Sandy emerged from behind the tree, ready to confront Lauren.
Dressed in a casual suit, Sandy stepped out and blocked Lauren’s path. He put his hands in his pockets, raised his chin, and adopted an arrogant expression. He was prepared to argue with Lauren and take responsibility if she blamed Sally.
Lauren glanced at him calmly, then simply walked toward the house, completely ignoring him.
Sandy was astonished! No one had ever ignored him like this. He quickly stepped in front of her, blocking her way.
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
Lauren looked slightly confused and innocent. “What should I say?”
Sandy, usually the center of attention and the best among his peers, was momentarily speechless. He quickly recovered, however. “Did you hear my conversation with Sally?”
Lauren considered for a moment. “If you mean what you and Sally said behind the tree three minutes ago, then yes, I did.”
Sandy sneered. “I didn’t expect you to have a hobby of eavesdropping.”
Lauren raised her eyebrows, as if to say, “So?”
Again, Sandy was at a loss for words. He’d intended to provoke an argument, but Lauren’s unexpected composure baffled him. She was unlike anyone he’d ever encountered.
