Chapter 1002

"It wasn't a thief. It's fine," she said softly, wanting to reassure him.

"Are you sure?" he asked.

After a pause, he blurted, "I'm coming home now!"

"It's fine!" she replied.

Lily rubbed her temples, frowning. "Look, I'm here talking to you. Everything's fine. The person left. Don't listen to the maids. They're just nervous; you know how they fuss."

Alexander had instilled in the maids a priority: Lily's safety and comfort. They were to inform him if she felt uncomfortable, often rushing to her aid even when she simply descended the stairs. It surprised Lily that none of them had fainted after witnessing her fight with the intruder.

"Are they making a big fuss, or are you downplaying things?" Alexander sighed from the other end of the phone. He understood her tendency to only share positive news to avoid worrying him.

"It's really fine," she insisted. After a moment, she continued softly, "I fought with the intruder. I think she was testing my skills, gauging my capabilities. She might be from a family of kickboxers. I don't think she had malicious intent."

"You fought her?!" Alexander's voice rose, causing Lily to instinctively pull the phone away.

"I'm fine. Iโ€”" Before she could finish, he hung up.

'Shit! I should have known!'

In under twenty minutes, Alexander arrived home, rushing to Lily and nervously holding her hands, examining her closely. "Are you hurt? Any discomfort? Let me take you to the hospital." He started to lift her.

"Stop!" She quickly held him, trying to calm him. "I'm fine! Really! Look, I'm not injured. Look at me!"

Frowning, he scrutinized her. There were no visible injuries, yet he insisted, "Just because there are no external injuries doesn't mean there aren't internal ones. We should go to the hospital."

Lily was speechless. This wasn't the cold, indifferent president everyone knew. "Alexander Russell!"

"I'm really fine! If you continue this, I'll move out!"

"Don't! It's more dangerous elsewhere! Where would you go? Back to the Lodge family? That won't work!" Alexander blurted nervously.

"Okay, okay. We don't have to go to the hospital."

Lily shook her head helplessly. She'd had to get angry to calm him down. Even as they sat together, he remained worried.

"Then...I'll just call the doctor."

'What?! Does this man not listen to a word I say?!'

After dismissing the maids, they returned to their room. Only when he held her hand against his chest did he seem to relax. News of the intruder and Lily's fight had nearly sent his heart racing. Though he knew her skill, and that she could handle herself, he couldn't shake his fear and worry for her well-being.

"I'm fine!" Lily lifted her other hand and traced his cheek, comforting him.
