Chapter 1074
"What's this? I'm not eating that!" Heather rejected the offer, regarding the bowl with disdain. It was filled with a creamy white liquid, bits of chicken and vegetables; appetizing in appearance and aroma. The enticing smell, however, piqued her hunger. "What soup is it?" she asked.
Hannah's face lit up. "It's chicken broth," she replied eagerly. "Good for your body. I heard you injured yourself, and I hoped this would help you recover."
"Good for me?" Heather eyed her suspiciously, pulling out her phone to search for information. "How did you know chicken soup helps injuries or sickness?"
"I saw it on TV," Hannah answered promptly. "We had the ingredients, the kitchen was empty, so I made it for you. Don't worry, I made sure no one saw me."
Heather wasn't concerned about being seen. Her household staff were loyal islanders; those hired later were barred from the main house. This ensured the public remained unaware of the existence of two Miss Riggs. Their preventative measures were effective.
"Worried it's too hot? Let it cool," Hannah said nervously, eagerly awaiting Heather's response. "I tasted it; it's just right."
Heather examined the soup, smirking. "I'm not worried about it being hot, but about it being poisoned!"
"I wouldn't dare!" Hannah knelt, terrified. "Not for a million dollars! I couldn't even leave the house, let alone obtain poison! No, waitโI wouldn't do it! You're my twin sister! Without you, there's no me! How could I poison you? IโI never would!"
Hannah trembled, tears welling, her head shaking. Heather had meant it as a joke, but Hannah's fear annoyed her.
"Okay, okay, I was joking! Don't be so afraid! Honestly! After all these years impersonating me, you still can't be more like me! Thank goodness Mom and Dad had me too, or the Riggs family would be ruined if it were left to you!"
Hannah nodded vigorously. "Yes, you're the best the Riggs family ever had! Our hope! Without you, I'm nothing, and our family has no future! You must take care of yourself! IโI..." She grabbed the soup and drank some. "I'll prove I didn't poison it!"
"Hey, youโ" Heather didn't expect this, unable to stop Hannah from burning her mouth.
"I told you I was joking! You're cowardly and foolish!" Heather took the bowl.
Hannah hesitated, unsure whether to finish it.
"We have a private chef," Heather stated. "No need for you to cook." While acknowledging Hannah's skill, it wasn't necessary.
"I don't have much to do at home, and it would be an honor to help you. Since I'm usually unhelpful, I'd be happy to care for you. Please let me, and I'll ensure no one sees me!" Hannah pleaded earnestly.
After finishing the soup, Heather felt warmth spreading through her. Wanting to return to her room, she dismissed Hannah with a wave. "It's up to you."
"Thank you!" Hannah chirped.
"All right, go back to your room. Don't come out until I say so!" Heather, unimpressed by Hannah's delight, gave her instructions before heading upstairs.
