Chapter 1421
Dominic was slack-jawed. He saw the child looking at him and quickly gave a thumbs-up. "You're amazing!"
The boy grinned, puffing out his chest. Lily cocked her head, studying the lock. She wasn't good with locks and couldn't understand the mechanism. She'd seen it on TV, recalling an urban legend about opening neighborhood doors with a single strand of instant noodles. Seeing her young son open the showcase lock with a thin cable from a toy was shocking.
"Who taught you that?" she asked Galen, her gaze questioning.
"Dee-Dee!" he replied thoughtfully.
"Who's Dee-Dee?"
The older man looked puzzled.
"Daisy?" Lily ventured. "Aunt Daisy?"
"Yes!" Galen nodded sharply. "I learned it myself!"
His contradictory statements puzzled Dominic. "So you learned it yourself, or did Aunt Dee-Dee teach you?"
"Hmm..." Galen furrowed his brow, struggling to explain the complex concept. Lily, however, understood.
"Did you learn it when Aunt Dee-Dee was doing it?"
The boy nodded excitedly.
"You learned it just by watching. That's impressive!" Dominic said.
"Lily, your son will go far."
But Lily wasn't thinking about that. "Where did you see Aunt Dee-Dee do it?"
Galen shook his head, unable to describe the locationโlikely due to his age. Lily guessed it was somewhere he rarely went. He could name familiar places like the playroom or bedroom; his inability to do so indicated otherwise.
"It looks like the nanny we hired isn't what she seems."
Initially confused, Dominic understood after Lily's question. "Lily?"
"I'm fine," Lily said, catching herself. "After I settle things, I might go overseas. During that time..." She paused. "Forget it. We'll talk later."
"Why are you going overseas?" Dominic pressed.
"You're not going to Burnwken, are you? The pandemic's raging there. Why would you go? If you're worried, ask Alexander to come back!"
Lily thought for a moment. "I think there's more to the pandemic than meets the eye."
Dominic, initially about to speak, was stunned. "Did you discover something?"
"No, but the mass poisoning at the factory and the pandemic starting after Alexander left seem too coincidental. Also..." She hesitated, wanting to mention the research institute experiment. "What's the purpose of those drugs or toxins? Is it purely for curing illnesses? I'm afraid things aren't so simple!"
