Chapter 1512
At the hospital, Anastasiaโs bandages were freshly applied. Looking at her father, busy attending to her, she said, โDad, Iโm okay, truly.โ Cameron sat beside her bed, gazing at her tenderly.
โI know.โ
โYouโre stillโโ
โYou need to rest.โ
Cameron said, โJust rest well and stop worrying. Iโll take care of everything.โ
โDadโฆโ She moved her lips, starting to speak, then paused thoughtfully, changing her mind.
โWhatโs the matter?โ Cameron asked gently. In that moment, he was simply a loving father, not the stern Secretary Rollins.
โNothing.โ She smiled. โSorry, I made you worry.โ
โSilly girl, thereโs nothing to apologize for.โ He adjusted her blanket.
Anastasia didnโt need hospitalization, but Cameron insisted she rest while the doctor conducted further observations. The doctor, naturally, obliged.
โDad, Iโve worried you my whole life. I even complained about you not spending enough time with me, but the truth is, youโve done so much. Iโm truly sorry!โ She spoke earnestly, her recent awareness of the gossip about her father weighing heavily. After Fabian and Mariaโs interference, she realized sheโd unfairly blamed him for neglecting her, overlooking his own lack of companionship.
It was likely heโd remained single for her sake, compensating for her motherโs absence with unwavering love.
Aunt Maria was partly right: a man might neglect his child after remarriage. Thatโs why my father hasnโt sought a new wife, to spare me the pain. If he finds someone, I shouldnโt stop him.
โYouโre my daughter; who else should I care for? Youโre my responsibility,โ Cameron said casually, a faint smile playing on his lips. His usually serious face softened remarkably.
โDad, youโre so good to me!โ Anastasiaโs eyes welled with tears.
โSilly girl!โ He gently dabbed away her tears with a tissue. โHave a good rest. I know it hasnโt been easy for you lately, either.โ
โDadโฆโ She grasped his hand as he rose.
โYes?โ He turned, a questioning look on his face.
โIfโฆโ She blushed, hesitant, but continued. โIf youโve found a suitable womanโฆ Iโd be okay with it! Iโm grown, I can take care of myself. I just want you to be happy!โ
Cameron paused, a slight frown creasing his brow. โDid you hear people gossiping?โ
โNo!โ Anastasia shook her head. โI donโt care if itโs true or not; I just want you to be happy.โ
Cameronโs frown softened, replaced by tenderness. โWith you by my side, Iโve always been happy!โ He gently stroked her hair. โDonโt think too much. Rest is what you need now.โ
โOkay!โ Anastasia nodded contentedly.
As Cameron was about to leave, he saw Lily standing at the doorway, holding a bag and a thermos. Seeing him, she started.
โM-Mr. Rollins.โ Having not interacted formally, she found โSecretary Rollinsโ too stiff.
