Chapter 1512

At the hospital, Anastasiaโ€™s bandages were freshly applied. Looking at her father, busy attending to her, she said, โ€œDad, Iโ€™m okay, truly.โ€ Cameron sat beside her bed, gazing at her tenderly.

โ€œI know.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re stillโ€”โ€

โ€œYou need to rest.โ€

Cameron said, โ€œJust rest well and stop worrying. Iโ€™ll take care of everything.โ€

โ€œDadโ€ฆโ€ She moved her lips, starting to speak, then paused thoughtfully, changing her mind.

โ€œWhatโ€™s the matter?โ€ Cameron asked gently. In that moment, he was simply a loving father, not the stern Secretary Rollins.

โ€œNothing.โ€ She smiled. โ€œSorry, I made you worry.โ€

โ€œSilly girl, thereโ€™s nothing to apologize for.โ€ He adjusted her blanket.

Anastasia didnโ€™t need hospitalization, but Cameron insisted she rest while the doctor conducted further observations. The doctor, naturally, obliged.

โ€œDad, Iโ€™ve worried you my whole life. I even complained about you not spending enough time with me, but the truth is, youโ€™ve done so much. Iโ€™m truly sorry!โ€ She spoke earnestly, her recent awareness of the gossip about her father weighing heavily. After Fabian and Mariaโ€™s interference, she realized sheโ€™d unfairly blamed him for neglecting her, overlooking his own lack of companionship.

It was likely heโ€™d remained single for her sake, compensating for her motherโ€™s absence with unwavering love.

Aunt Maria was partly right: a man might neglect his child after remarriage. Thatโ€™s why my father hasnโ€™t sought a new wife, to spare me the pain. If he finds someone, I shouldnโ€™t stop him.

โ€œYouโ€™re my daughter; who else should I care for? Youโ€™re my responsibility,โ€ Cameron said casually, a faint smile playing on his lips. His usually serious face softened remarkably.

โ€œDad, youโ€™re so good to me!โ€ Anastasiaโ€™s eyes welled with tears.

โ€œSilly girl!โ€ He gently dabbed away her tears with a tissue. โ€œHave a good rest. I know it hasnโ€™t been easy for you lately, either.โ€

โ€œDadโ€ฆโ€ She grasped his hand as he rose.

โ€œYes?โ€ He turned, a questioning look on his face.

โ€œIfโ€ฆโ€ She blushed, hesitant, but continued. โ€œIf youโ€™ve found a suitable womanโ€ฆ Iโ€™d be okay with it! Iโ€™m grown, I can take care of myself. I just want you to be happy!โ€

Cameron paused, a slight frown creasing his brow. โ€œDid you hear people gossiping?โ€

โ€œNo!โ€ Anastasia shook her head. โ€œI donโ€™t care if itโ€™s true or not; I just want you to be happy.โ€

Cameronโ€™s frown softened, replaced by tenderness. โ€œWith you by my side, Iโ€™ve always been happy!โ€ He gently stroked her hair. โ€œDonโ€™t think too much. Rest is what you need now.โ€

โ€œOkay!โ€ Anastasia nodded contentedly.

As Cameron was about to leave, he saw Lily standing at the doorway, holding a bag and a thermos. Seeing him, she started.

โ€œM-Mr. Rollins.โ€ Having not interacted formally, she found โ€œSecretary Rollinsโ€ too stiff.
