The police had recently investigated the research institute. Although they found nothing, we attracted their attention. Besides, we are in Hyderland and Kingsland. What kinds of tricks can we pull under their watchful eyes? Securing this dilapidated basement in the equally dilapidated hospital was already difficult. This is the only place where others wouldn't find us.
"What's so difficult about it? You're just making excuses!" the man roared unconcernedly. He simply wanted to leave this suffocating place.
"If you can't find a more suitable location, then your sonโฆ" A malicious grin spread across his lips.
Mike was alarmed. "This has nothing to do with my son! Even if you killed him, I couldn't do anything beyond my capabilities. I'm trying my best to find a solution. Furthermore, the experiment is in its final stage. This location is the most suitable, being in a hospital. Relocating to an unsuitable location would jeopardize the experiment."
He spoke rapidly, fearing the man would harm his son. He owed the child a great deal and didn't want him to suffer further.
Seeing Mike's anxiety, the man was satisfied. He wanted to unsettle Mike, to ensure he understood that excellent performance was his only recourse.
"Fine, I won't pressure you!" Waving dismissively, he said casually, "I know you can't, so I've already arranged for someone else to handle it. We'll soon move to a more spacious and suitable location. For now, focus on collecting empirical data and avoiding distractions."
Mike was surprised. "You've found a new place? Where is it?"
"You don't need to know." The man clearly didn't want to reveal the location.
Mike persisted. "You can choose not to tell me, but I must remind you that this is Kingsland. We can't act with impunity here. We're not overseas; we'll have nowhere to hide if anyone discovers us."
"Enough! I know Hyderland's laws. I don't need your reminder. And let me assure you, the new location is secure, and the Hyderland army will provide protection. Do you believe me?" He looked smug and self-assured.
Mike was bewildered.
The man, pleased by Mike's confusion, waved him away. "You may leave."
Leaving the room, Mike returned to the first floor and exited the hospital. Once in his car, he leaned back, sighing in relief as he gazed ahead. "You still haven't found him?"
"No, sir. There's still no news of your son," the chauffeur replied quietly.
"What about Lily?"
"We haven't located her yet. We traced the signal to a nearby town, but it was flashing rapidly, and there was an anti-tracking device, rendering the GPS uselessโฆ" His voice trailed off, perhaps acknowledging their failure.
"A town?" Mike narrowed his eyes, puzzled. "What was she doing there?"
"We're unsure. She left the day before yesterday without anyone. We only know that much. Perhaps a leisure trip?"
Mike shook his head. "No, that's not her style. An ordinary woman might take a leisure trip if she's upset, but not Lily! If she's alone, something's amiss. She must be looking for something or someone. I wonder whoโฆ"
