Listen to this chapter:

Lily gazed at Alexander, seemingly asleep on the bed. She knitted her brow, checking his pulse and observing his face. Her expression grew somber as she lifted her eyelids to look at him. Only when she released Alexander's wrist did Greg ask, "How is he?"

"The virus might have mutated," Lily replied, her gaze fixed on Greg.

"What does that mean?" Greg's voice rose; he knew little about the virus, only that it sounded frightening.

After a moment's thought, Lily said, "He can't stay here. I have to take him elsewhere."

Greg was stunned, shaking his head. "No, Alexander said he shouldn't leave until he's completely well, or he'll spread the disease."

"It is contagious, but I fear he'll die if he stays. The virus has begun to mutate. If we don't contain it, I don't know what it will become, or if it will mutate again. I lack the necessary resources. We can only save him by transferring him to a better-equipped facility with sufficient herbs."

Lily's seriousness was evident. This wasn't a rash decision; the situation had deteriorated beyond her expectations.

"But..." Greg hesitated, scratching his head.

"I know you listen to him, and you're doing this for his sake. But the situation has changed. We need to adapt, okay?"

Greg was confused. "Huh? Adapt?"

Lily was speechless. Forget it, she thought, I doubt I can explain it clearly.

She sighed. "Leaving now is the best option for Alex. If he could wake up, he'd agree. Rest assured, I'll take care of everything and ensure all necessary safety precautions during the journey."

Greg seemed both understanding and confused.

Lily's thoughts shifted. "Greg, give me your hand."

Greg was bewildered. "My hands?"

He instinctively offered both hands, uncertain of her intention. Lily took one, feeling his pulse. It was steady and strong. She raised an eyebrow. "You're not infected at all."

"I'm in great shape!" Greg patted his chest, chuckling, mistaking it for a compliment.

"I think it's more than that." Lily thought, Alexander was also strong, yet his body couldn't fight the virus. Greg has taken precautions, but only with ordinary sanitizer and a maskโ€”no goggles. Yet he shows no signs of infection. Probability, luck, good healthโ€ฆ whatever it is, it's worth studying.

"You must come with us!" she declared.

Greg was surprised. "Huh?"

Perhaps influenced by her urgency or Alexander's condition, Lily acted swiftly. She arranged for an ambulance equipped with disinfectant and personal protective equipment. Within half a day, Alexander was transferred from the remote town to a hospital in suburban Kingsland.
