Chapter 1623

"I don't understand why you couldn't tell me beforehand that you were picking up Alex. Why couldn't you just tell me? Patient number 58? A new case? What the hell was that about?" Lily questioned Dr. Blanc, her distress evident.

"I understand if they discovered Alex and now want to take him away for quarantine, but why didn't they tell me anything during the long journey from the center?" Dr. Blanc looked at her intently, silent.

"Did you not tell me because you thought I wouldn't agree and would relocate him in advance?" Lily guessed, receiving no answer.

"Lily, there's no need to dwell on this. You've been at the center long enough to know how serious this disease is. I only withheld the information just in caseโ€”"

"Just in case?" Lily's voice was sharp.

"You simply don't trust me! If you don't, why do you want me to work for you? I shouldn't even stay, should I?"

"It's not that we don't trust you, butโ€”"

"I disagree!" Lily interrupted, taking a deep breath. "As you said, the most professional medical team is attending to Alex. They'll take full safety measures to prevent the disease from spreading. As for transferring him, there's no need. Thank you, Dr. Blanc, for your good intentions, but please go back!"

The bodyguards reacted, surrounding them. A tense standoff ensued, a fight seeming imminent.

Dr. Blanc, seemingly anticipating this, sighed. "Calm down, Lily. Don't be rash. We're relocating Mr. Russell to the center because we can provide better treatment and study his case. Based on what we know, Mr. Russell was infected in Burnwken, so his data and samples will be more valuable than local ones. I hope you won't let your emotions cloud your judgment for the greater good."

"Give in to my emotions?" Lily chuckled, struggling to maintain her composure. "Dr. Blanc, if that's the case, why couldn't you tell me from the start? I even asked you about it on the way, yet you didn't tell me. You waited until now to corner me into agreeing, didn't you? If you don't trust me, why should I trust you? Trust is supposed to be mutual!"

Dr. Blanc was speechless. He feared Lily would secretly relocate her husband; that's why he'd waited. He simply wanted to ensure nothing went wrong for the greater good.

"Lily!" he called, taking two steps forward. "It's my fault for not telling you in advance, but you can't blame me. Weren't you aware Mr. Russell was infected? You knew since his return from Burnwken, and you took safety measures to transfer him to this hospital. However, you never informed us or reported the case. Aren't you being selfish? Have you trusted us?"

Lily remained silent, unable to deny his words. She hadn't reported Alexander's case to avoid his transfer. She admitted her actions were selfish; she simply wanted him to recover in a safe, comfortable place, and since there was no cure, a transfer seemed pointless. However, she also understood Dr. Blanc's perspective. From his standpoint, her actions were indeed selfish. Unable to reconcile this conflict, she had acted from a wife's perspective.
